If you don't know what I mean, visit Animemusicvideos.org (http://www.animemusicvideos.org) :)

IMO, AMVs are the perfect synthesis of music and animation. The best ones even communicate intense feelings to their public...

So what so you think about them ? Are there any AMV makers here ? :spin:

Ohh, I used to download from there all the time and then I think I just simply forgot. Before the Great Hard Drive Crash of 2000, I had about 6 or 7 of the best music videos I could find on my server. But they have long since been lost. I'll definitely check out the site later on. :)

You surely don't know what you're missing, guys ! ...or is it because of the gigantic, intimidating amount of AMVs that can be found there ? :ponder:

Well, I haven't seen that many animes, and I would much rather first see the anime before looking these music videos.

Kilu> Well, you've seen Trigun... Why don't you try and watch Trigun AMVs ? If I had to give you titles, "Eden" and "Let it Make me Strong" are the best Trigun AMVs I've seen so far :spin:

Lord Draud> Sorry, I haven't seen this one :p

:D Sorry I didn't reply. I am an anime fan, and an anime music fan, but I never got into the amv scene. Besides - my hard drive is constantly full of music. ;)

Jeez ! I always forget this one ! When I registered (two years ago), it wasn't like this :wonder:
I'm afraid you'll have to wait, Kilu, unless you find an indirect/direct link :(

And I might add that 'Kilu' was already in use. Which is huge surprise. It is actually in 'KILu' form (how lame) but still. I registered under name of 'Preacher Bob' :D :D :D

This happens so rarely that I'm always surprised that someone shares a nick.

The only AMVs I really thought were done greatly were the 2 following...

"In The End (Dragonball Z's Vegeta)" by Linkin Park

"Frozen (Rorouni Kenshin OAV 1-4 mix)" by Madonna (No joke the music fit greatly!)

I actually just made an AMV about 2 weeks ago for the anime Hellsing. The song that's mixed with the video is called "Suffer System", off my band "After the Suffering" 's recently recorded demo in Dinuba California. If anyone's interested in seeing it, i have it in my Kazaa shared folder for the time being under the filename "Hellsing- Suffer System" so it should be found if you search in the video area.

Here's a shameless self-advertising (and also a way of reviving this thread :D )
My new AMV has been released in the beginning of September, and is available at both animemusicvideos.org (http://animemusicvideos.org) and my personal website (http://zeugmaonline.sytes.net/index.php?section=5).

Genre : Sentimental, Drama
Song : "Tsuki Hitotsu", by See-Saw
Anime : Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (features spoilers)

I've worked on it the whole summer long, and the result is quite satisfying as far as i'm concerned. Some of you may find it boring because there is no "action" : the clip is focused on feelings and on the main character's dilemma.

Enjoy ^^

:bouncy: wow, Zeugma, that's great...
I'll get it asap and give you a review (btw, isn't See-Saw the trio Yuki Kajiura started with?)

As for good AMVs...I recently got one where I found my self choking with laughter...
it's from Evangelion, and the music is a pretty stupid song by the German group Rammstein. That song is called "Engel", and it's about angels, and someone who doesn't one to become one after death...
next to the funny fitting of the content of the song and the anime, the animation is also great in synch with the text of the song.

You're right, See-Saw is the group led by Yuki Kajiura. The song I've chosen is from their album Dream Field.

About Engel, it's one of the very first AMVs I've seen. It has become a real classic, as many other vids made by Kevin Caldwell. If you ever check my profile, Engel is #1 of my favourite :w00t:

These are just songs played to anime sequences?
If so I have seen quite a number of them. My favorite is "Tainted Doughnuts" which has Trigun and Cowboy Bebop parts in it.
My Friend likes the one to Korn's "Dead Bodies Everywhere," I think it's creepy.
And I think I have seen "Frozen" with Kenshin, but I'm not sure.

I just want to revive this thread because I wanted to discuss something. It seems that Zeugma440 and I are the only ones who actually make AMVs on this site so I would love more people to join in. I tell you its a great experience. Now to the topic...

I made a video a few days and it was a horror video that I had in mind for alot of time but never got time to make. The concept of Riddle in the Dark was touching but I think most people do not like the Horror genre. Most of the time when you take a horror title it has some moments that can only be felt when you have seen the video for like 1 hour and it has build its environemnt. Now this is the problem in making an AMV with a horror theme. You have 4 to 5 mins and you have to create a feel that is Horror, rythmic, synced and you know whatever.

Most of the people when afer watching the video come to tell me that they love a horror video, were really not frightened with this one...I had to say..."C'mon poeple, How can you create a horror atmosphere with a song which has guitar and drums in it...".

Many things said and people gave a great response. I had to make an effort for the series and I think when I started out with Riddle in the Dark, I thought I should not make a sick video and definitely not a Ring or Grudge type AMV. So, the next part in the series and the one that happens to be the last one... I am going to make an AMV which will mean much more than just an AMV and will definitely scare a Horror fan.

If there's anybody out there reading this and feels that he is a Horror fan, please let me know what do you think of how a horror title should be and are my statments about making a Horror AMV right or not?

But one thing is for sure...the next part in the series is definitely not for the ones with heart problems..you know what I mean.

Eww, Blade, isn't there anything more than dialup at the place where you live ?

M.H.A.Q.S. > I'm not a big fan of horror but I do see what you mean.

If you have already browsed animemusicvideos.org, you have probably seen what creators call horror. Basically, there are two main tendencies :
- explicitly shocking images + "violent" music
- slighty suggestive images + disturbing music

In my opinion, the first, "straight-in-your-face" approach is really efficient on first viewing, but loses its interest afterwards.
The 2nd one can be much more effective but requires way more work. If it's successful, it will leave the audience more uncomfortable with each viewing.
That's what real horror is for me : not some monster ot blood scene drawn by some animation artist, but the dark and unwanted side that lies in the mind of everyone of us. If you suceed in triggering that with your video, then people will get afraid, for sure.

Now that is what I call a good opinion. I have recently working on a music composition for the next part in the Riddle in teh Dark Series. I've composed a music and I have yet to complete alot from footage to main concept of the video.

I've shown a sample of the music to some people and they don't think that the music is disturbing or horror. They say that only images can make a horror music feel horror. Apart from all the animes and movies and games I've seen, the only one I feel as sick and a bit of horror is no doubt Silent Hill. Its music is sick, disturbing and it makes you want to turn off the surround sound.

I would try to look into the two types you've told Zeugma440. Which of the AMVs on the .org do you think are good. I just want to have some idea what people do actually want and what do they like.

They say that only images can make a horror music feel horror.
Nah, I think they're wrong. There are tunes that definitely are horror tunes, e.g. "Succubus Princess", from Wild ARMs III, or "Putrid Shell" from Resident Evil - Code Veronica. The images are here to reinforce the impression the music is supposed to communicate.
In several cases, pictures can even change the original purpose of music. For example, a 70's love song played over a dark and gloomy footage will make this song sound very disturbing.

I totally agree with you on Silent Hill. Its atmosphere is built to create uneasiness, and most of the time, it works http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/searching.gif

Which of the AMVs on the .org do you think are good. I just want to have some idea what people do actually want and what do they like.
I think you'd better look at the VCA (Viewer's Choice Awards) archive, on the site itself. Every year, there are nominees for the "Best horror video" category. I think you might find the best stuff out there. I just tried once, this has been enough ;)

I hate the internet around my place. I have seen some horror videos which were prized in the VCA. I think they are not that good or even scary. Some of them are good but still I can't find something that can really tell me how are people supposed to make good Horror AMVs.

I'm hard on work but time is something that is against me. I have found something that I can work on. The opinions Zeugma440 gave were really helpful and I will try to use them.

I think there is one codec that you need to play AMVs mostly and that is DivX Pro. I recommend a codec pack named ACE Mega Codec Pack. It has all the codec that you can ask for on the net.

One of the players that I use the most is Intervideo's WinDVD player. The current version is 7 and I think you people should try it.
