Hello everyone. I thought I would drop a post here and give a brief update for you all on what is and isn't going on around this place. http://forums.rpgamers.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

First off, as many of you have noticed, the site conversion from cold fusion to PHP is COMPLETE. A big thanks to Laban for pushing it forward, where I had left off. He has been working hard to bring the site back up, and we are making a lot of progress.

The server move was successful, all data and mail made it to the new server fairly flawlessly. Most links however have changed, and if you link to RPGN on any websites, or have any bookmarks, please update them. The forums should now be accessed from the master domain, forums.rpgamers.net - You can continue to use rpgamers.info if you wish, but this domain may vanish come next year's renewal period.

Currently, here is what we are working on:

- New poll system.
- FMV section revival, new downloading process to protect hotlinking.
- Control Panel conversion. Mirrors will notice the CP is currently unavailable.
- Preparation for the upcoming re-design contest. Preparing rules and guidelines.
- Fixing any little bugs along the way to the new RPGN!

By re-design, I don't mean like before, a new menu or such. I mean total revamping of the entire website. I hope when complete, RPGN will have the same feel, but a much more professional, clean look. Some areas are being retired, while others are coming out of the works. This is going to take a lot of work, as design is only one part of the process. We will need to entirely remake the database system, most of the scripts on the site... it is going to be a gradual process.

However, we cannot make the background magic happen without having a solid plan. So planning is the current stage, and as always we are open for suggestions. We still do have hopes for forum-site integration, atleast partially. I would like the admin panels to base their login system from the forum db, as well as have the site news pulled from posts here in the announcements section, thus allowing users like yourself to post comments to each news entry we post. (and maybe even allow more of you to post news on the front page!)

So, thats where we are for now. RPGN is not dead, it was just sleeping. If you check the bottom of the front page, you can see that there are always people on the site. I saw it peek 60 people yesterday afternoon... so we are not completely gone yet. :P That is very encouraging indeed.

On a side note, we do still have the popups code in the pages at this time. This is to help generate funding for the upcoming contest. I recommend sticking to those popup blockers a little bit longer. The new site will be entirely popup free, although we may work a banner system into the design. Banners will reflect RPGN affiliates only, not advertising companies. Well, except maybe some shameless lintbox advertising ;)

2 things I just noticed:

Van Houten's (and a few others) "last visit" box is empty in the members list area.

Why not add a feature that shows the reputation points rather than a green cube and "rank"? (or does it somehow already do that?). Yes this will make me look like an ass cause i am last but it would still be nice:)

It does that when you turn on invisible mode.

Anyone gonna make it so you can choose to see all posts in a thread at once?

This would make backing up my Britain thread easier for example. It also means I don't have to keep loading other peoples threads up page by page.

With a fast Internet connection, surely the option should be there?

I don't think there is a way. You can use the Number of Posts to Show Per Page option to show 50 per page, but that's the maximum right now. I don't think there is a way even on a newer VB, and our licence expired a while ago. But I'll investigate further. If there isn't a way, I doubt that Locke Cole will hack the forum for that.

After a quick look around the settings, I upped the max amount to 100 posts per page. There isn't a way to show all posts without hacking the code, but 100 posts per page is a good start.

Glad to see forums support alpha channel for avatars etc:) I had a feeling maybe they wouldn't.
