WHY DID I BOTHER?

It is important to understand that in alot of cases music to a particular game (that I like) does not exist on CD i.e. it has never been officially released. People often just go for inferior sound formats such as PSF (playstation Music Format) or record the music themselves using crap soundcards, poor quality cables, bad software or analog connections in cases like the Playstation and PS2 where optical cable recording is an option using the PS2 optical output.

I was absolutely sick and tired of finding crap recordings, crap rips, crap encodings and then I decided that I would sort out the mess.

First I will go through the games that I have DONE OR WILL BE DONE SHORTLY and why I decided to record them etc. If you know of a released CD that I do not know about please correct me

Also I did this to give back to rpgamers what it has given me and many others thanks locke cole:)

I have a largish amount of VGM (10-11 GB) that I did not rip etc, mainly from RPGamer mirrors (though there are more and I tried my best to keep only good quality rips). A special thankyou mainly to Bamatone/Reth/Mithrandir and the rest. THANKS

And 1 further Special Thanks to EvilAshe who saved me alot of time by generously allowing me access to his server.

KEY

Because not all soundtracks are obtained in the same way indicators are used in the folder name. I have labelled all of the soundtracks I have in my position as follows, I hope you find it easier for you understand this way:

[Emulated] - The musics have been obtained using emulators such as ZSNES/SNESAMP (SNES/SNES Music emulator). As such the music may not sound exactly like the game music. However sometimes it is actually beneficial to do it this way as there is a percieved "increase in quality" over recording them from the actual console. Other times it is simply because I do not have the console/game and never will (In my case this applies to everything apart from Megadrive/Genesis, PSX and PS2).

[Recording] - The musics obtained have been recorded from the actual console. They will represent the total accuracy of the game audio but are usually inferior to an offcial release soundtrack (due to expert remastering and use of the master copy).

[Game-Rip] - A game rip is a soundtrack that has been ripped from a non CDA (Compact Disc Audio) compliant game disc. This usually involves the use of game tools that can extract the audio from custom made formats (like XA for playstation etc). A game rip will sound exactly like the game audio but is usually compressed (etc) and as such will not usually be as good as a CDA-Rip or an offcial release CD.

[CDA-Rip] - This is a rip from a game CD which contained CD audio. As such it will be of higher quality than a Game-Rip and will represent the original sound in entireity. It doesn't follow that this is better than an offcially released CD though.

[ALCA-####] - Catalogue numbers are used when it is an offcial released game soundtrack. You can put this into google etc and usually find the soundtrack listed for sale.

[None] - Soundtrack was officially released but not given a catalogue number.

[NA] - Non Applicable. Soundtrack is from an amateur source, such as amateur remixes etc.

Remember certain soundtracks have to be recorded, ripped or extracted simply because an offcial release CD is not out, never will be out or does not represent the actual music of the game in question.

MY RELASES, IN THE FOLDER "My RELEASES" ;)

Soulblade [Game-Rip] (Playstation): Otherwise known as Soul Edge has an officially released CD of the Khan Super Session. Arrange mode was not released either which is a pity. Some other tunes were also missing.
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Sonic The Hedgehog [Emulated] (Master System): No released CD.
All original music composed by Yuzo Koshiro (i.e. Streets of Rage). Yuzo remixed some musics from the Megadrive/Genesis version like Green Hill Zone (these wre composed originally by Masato Nakamura)
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 [Emulated] (Master System): No released CD.
Tomozou, Simaghan and Ray composed. No idea who they are or what they are up to now. I find it hard to believe that the above were used to compose the soundtrack to a sonic game seemingly from nowhere. The names aren't helpful or real probably..loads of people are called Ray.
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Sonic The Hedgehog [Emulated] (Megadrive/Genesis): No Released CD.
Composer: Masato Nakamura
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD
Composer: Masato Nakamura
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): No Released CD.
Composers: Brad Buxer, Bobby Brooks, Darryl Ross, Geoff Grace, Doug Grigsby III, "Scirocco"
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Sonic and Knuckles [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): OST not complete or accurate. Official release all remixes (and awful at that) ALCA-5015. Composed by Howard Drossin
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Sonic 3D: Flickies Island [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD.
Composed by Jun Senoue
A Sega Saturn version (Sonic 3D Blast composed by Richard Jaques) was released but this great music soundtrack was sadly not.
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Goldenaxe [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD.
Composed by David Whittaker
A great soundtrack...
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Greendog [Recording] (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD.
Composed by Matze
I recorded my favourite ones only.
Bitrate: 320 CBR
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Final Fantasy X - Unreleased [Recording] (Playstation): Officially released CD was superior in quality to the actual output of the PS2 but 3 musics were for some reason left out of the OST, so here they are. Includes the nice tune 'Nostalgia'
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Unreleased [Recording] (Playstation 2): You may wonder why the heck this one is here after 3 officially released CD's that covered all the musics perfectly? The thing is.....they didn't. The released CD's of the music composed by Nobino (MGS2: The Other side and MGS2 Substance Ultimate Sorter) are wrong and alot is missing too. The released CD's are still good but if you want the accurate sound and all them other tunes that are left out including the Olga Boss battle music, then this is for you.
Bitrate: 256 CBR
RELEASED

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance - Unreleased [Recording] (Playstation 2): No released CD.
Also note, people keep thinking that the Ultimate Sorter CD and 'The other side' are accurate to the actual PS2 music. They aren't, some are superior but I really don't go for remixes. Bottom line: download and tell me what you think. Also if you spot any I have missed drop me a line. Includes Snake Tales and Skate Board musics.
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Super Mario Brothers 2 (NES) [Emulated]: No released CD.
The game was not really supposed to be a mario game but the soundtrack is good and was composed by Koji Kondo
Bitrate: 224 CBR
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

Street Fighter II [Emulated] (SNES): No released CD?
Lots of music out there on the net with Street Fighter as the title, sadly they are the crap versions like Alpha. This soundtrack is a timeless classic.
Composed by Yoko Shimomura, Yoshihiro Sakaguchi, Tetsuya Nishimura, Isao Abe
Bitrate: 256 CBR
RELEASED

Super Mario Land: Overworld [Emulated] (Gameboy): Official release CD out but I like this one also from the emulator, especially since the one from the offcial release seems a bit clicky.
Bitrate: 224 CBR
RELEASED

Road Rash II: Main Theme [Recording] (Megadrive): No Released CD.
An ok tune....maybe I should have done the whole OSV.
Composed by Brad Buxter
Bitrate: 224 CBR
WAITING UNTIL I CONSIDER EMULATION READY

First, thanks for your effort. :)
Do you want PC game scores on your FTP as well? I might contribute quite a lot of those, and most of them were not released on the tracker. iIimplementing PCG would make the server a bit more unique, instead of being an alternative to the RPGTracker.

we'll see how it goes. I have a few things also that not released cause nobody bothered to release them...

My old server (if you look at all the threads in this section you will see it as daniels server) had lots of game music that most ppl have but i removed them seems how every other person has them. I do take requests still for them like one guy who wanted nights into dreams ost.

Sounds good. hardhouse ftp was really popular, and so could yours get.
The only thing we'd need is rare music, and albums which have not been released here at the forum or the tracker.

The German version of that creation is far superior (prob cause it conducted by Herbert Von Karajan). I suggest you download it and try track 17, CD 2 Duet and chorus..its the best one in my opinion and is also the one you hear in the background as midgar collapses around pres. shinra on FF7.

EDIT: Cheers just noticed your uploads too. Appreciated. Although they are practically the same as the ones I have, bad quality mainly, it doesn't matter. If I don't get good quality ones on the net I will resort to a full scale atack on the local CD shops and go ona copy bonanza.

It doesn't matter thanks for trying Epology. Also the highlander Theme you have there was a film. As you prob. know its the queen song "who wants to live forever" although queen made a special song for that film called "Princes of the universe" ;)

Thanks for the advice. I'll listen to it when it's done downloading.
Meanwhile, try to get Mozarts Requiem (You probably own it already. If that's not the case, I'll upload it.) and listen to the "Dies Irae". One of the best choir sung tracks I know. Though, there are multiple interpretations of it. I'm talking about the oldest original one, done by "Xavier Süssmayr".

Hey, thanks for getting this server up! I have the official releases of the MGS2 soundtracks(the other side, etc.), but I was a bit disappointed that it didn't have every bit of music from the game.

Thanks!

So was I. I have sent a massive txt file to Hideo Kojima's blog about it lol. You seem to be idle at the mo, is everything ok? You aren't on dialup also are you?

No. Ever since I switched to SmartFTP, I've been able to actually download stuff.

Every once in a while it'll lose the connection and it'll say "200 NOOP COMMAND SUCCESSFUL." I don't get it though, I have all the settings correct and everything.

Theres prob someone on here that can help you with that problem I use Bulletproof ftp and it seems far simpler and I have had no trouble with it. I have put it in the REQUESTED folder. Suggest you dl it and try it.

By the way how is mokojin doing? ;) you don't happen to have any tekken OST's do you? (post 1 needed section) I am downloading a few but as to their quality that depends on when they are completed.

Sorry if you or someone else tried to access/download in the last hour. Internet connection is unstable and prone every now and again to locking up until I get a better modem.

EDIT: Don't need Magic Flute anymore. I have aquired Mozart's greatest Hits CD (if you want me to add this to the server let me know).

Can't say I've never heard of the error message. What version of smartftp you use? My best advice is to update to the latest stable, or if you are already using the latest, then try a beta and see if anything changes.

Oh and you two, don't chat in the forums.

Entire Backup Harddrive has been corrupted beyond repair. I have had to delete the partition and reback up so server will be down for around 24 hours. Don't EVER use firewire when connecting external harddrives. When windows starts up sometimes it ruins the partition. I tried a few things to restore the data but its all gone.

Luckily main harddrive is ok and I am putting in a for a 3rd backup harddrive.

I have lost everything I was downloading from shareaza at the moment though which is a pity becaue neverending story OST was 99.95% completed.

The worst thing about data loss is you cannot remember what was infact lost so now I sit here for 5 years wondering whast gone.

I WILL NOT HAVE MY DATA RUINED BECAUSE OF SHIT HARDWARE/SOFTWARE.

Server will not be back for around 5 days until I have this new harddrive from Ebay. I cannot risk my data being lost..it would mean certain suicide for me and I am not sure whether I am kidding or not.

Will now be a bit longer since I didn't do my research and acted like a fool. I did not do my research on SATA drives, as a consequence I now have sitting here a completely useless 50 UK pound hard drive.

Not to worry though, I have just had to send off for a SATA caddy to make it external. There are other ways round it but if your motherboard/powerpack does not support it and you have no cables for it then...it becomes tricky.

Needless to say I am furious.

Although the guy offering the caddy had a 99.1% good feedback rate, he was also a scammer ...so now I am persuing action against him for trying to rob my money. I have sent more cash to another guy and should have a caddy any day now.

Wow, that was really quick. If you still need the Beauty and the Beast score, I could offer it coded at 128 cbr. Interested?

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior soundtrack finally released. Pity no original CD with these tunes because I consider it to be one of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

Did extensive testing with SNESAMP and Adobe Audition to get these as accurate and high quality as possible. Also included the full sound test.

If you download, enjoy I know I will :)

Hm... I saw you had Sonic 3 on your list... if itīs the entire gamemusic than Iīll request that one... too bad you didnīt have Guilty Gear X though... well.. canīt get them all I suppose... XDYeah did have sonic 3, decided I am going to redo the entire sonic series though cause

a. Didn't let it loop twice

b. Didn't use proper fade outs

c. Didn't record in 32 bit mode

d. didn't use advanced noise reduction techniques.

e. Didn't encode to stereo, encoded by accident to dual channel 320 CBR.

So all in all a total cock up.

Its a real pain in the ass but if something is worth doing its worth doing right. Only problem is now I don't have a sega megadrive or the games lol....

They are still the best you'll find to the actual console though but for now, they are removed. Your FF8 is still waiting though ;) hehe

I need to know how it works so I dont screw up in the future... thatīs all heh...SNESAMP is very near and better in many respects to the SNES. Emulators for the megadrive are awfully poor in comparison, they have awful bass and are inferior. Need real megadrive for that job!:) I wont touch anything not done by me cause in most cases I am the one that does it right , i have extensively looked at loads of tunes for a long time to see what the difference are etc...its a pity but true, emulators are no good :)

Anyway, yeah the FF8 is in the BY REQUEST folder:) see details of server on post1

SeymourGuado

EDIT:

I realised why it has disappeared from my collection. I deleted it because I didn't like it much. Anyway, because I left it on the list and this is my fault, I have redownloaded it just for you.

I could only find it in 160 CBR, but it is a good rip.

It is up now on my server. Note server is back to port 21 where it shall stay.

I have also updated the information a bit since some of that no longer stands. I am also updating alot of the megadrive music #with a new found emulator since the real megadrive sucks. I have no idea what made me want to keep the original sound when in this case, the emulator kicks its arse.

Will fully update once I have finished this huge task.
