Hello there, I just have a quick question about seeding torrents that hopefully someone here can answer.
I have found that using the BitTorrent client I can alter the directory names and still be able to seed the torrent (I couldn't get this to work with Azureus). But, once I've downloaded a torrent, is it alright for me to edit the ID3 tags of the MP3s? My guess is "No."
The only reason that I ask is because on some of the MP3s (most noticably the Orchestral Game Concert set) the artist field is huge and takes up my entire WinAMP playlist window. So I was hoping I could edit them a bit. I'd like to be able to see the track name as well. =p

heheheheh >.>; thats my fault :p, If you mean that you alter the tags and still seed I think its not possible, unless you stop seeding, then change the tags and again seed the file, (I think the file didnt change itself so I doubt its any problem the way I suggest) correct me if im wrong guys :).....
BTW I leave the long Composer names cuz im too lazy to put in each track their corresponding composer :)

If you change anything about the mp3, including the tags, I'm pretty sure it won't allow you to see. It will just downloading the files again.

Yup. I wish it wasn't like that, as well... Nothing Locke can do to fix it, either. ;)
Yup. Depending on the torrent client it might give you an error message of 'file too big or different size' or some such. Some client just automatically redownload the changed files, and some refuse to resume any activity unless you stop the seed and delete the changed files.
I usually just keep the files like they are as long as I keep the seed alive. After you have stopped seeding you can do whatever you wish to the files of course. Like, some have uploaded files with kanji tags, which are useless to me, so I change them at some point in time to my own liking.

Uhm, yes, changing an MP3 tag changes part of the file itself, so it's not to be considered as the "same" anymore from that very moment. BitTorrent doesn't want a single bit of the data to change, it won't let it through ; and it's good that way, otherwise people would end up with corrupted data after a while. See KaZaA and the many bad files you could get with it (be they music or videos)...
The good side of an .exe or .zip file is that they will only work undamaged, strictly identical to the original. Which isn't the case with MP3s and AVIs, for instance, which are "error-tolerant" and as such, can get more and more damaged each time they go through P2P transfers.
That's why I definitely like the "hash" thingie started with eDonkey and used in BitTorrent too... They are not that many who check the quality of their files before they share them back. :)
