(Requests link on the top menu) Hopefully a user will see your request and post it up for you. Check the request board every few days to see if your request is filled.

Hi Locke,

First off, GREAT tracker! Thank you for running it. I've already found a couple of things I wanted and tried out some new stuff I hadn't heard before.. plus I was able to fill some other people's requests too, which is always fun :)

Second, and the main reason for this post, I have a suggestion for the "Requests" area. How about adding a comments feature there, like the one in the main Browse section? I've had several occasions now where these could've come in handy. For starters, when I look at requests to see whether I can fill any, there's occasionally some confusion as to what title/which version another user has asked for -- either the original post wasn't specific, or there's a question about multiple versions, or encoding quality, whatever. I know it's the responsibility of the poster to detail what they're looking for but not everybody does this all the time *g* and in some cases I might be able to fill a request if I can ask a quick question or two of the people who requested. I realize we can PM but that only benefits the one user & not the community as a whole.. plus if multiple people are voting for a request, you'd have to PM with each one individually.. it would just be more convenient to be able to leave comments or questions right there with the request where anyone could help answer if they saw it.

Also, in a different scenario (one that happens more frequently, at least for me), I sometimes see a request for an OST where it's a title that I don't have personally but I know where to get it online. I suppose you don't want to divert traffic away from this tracker but I'm also talking about websites here, not necessarily just other trackers.. and if we can direct somebody to their much-sought-after soundtrack that they can't find elsewhere? :) A couple of times when I was feeling generous I've gone & snagged a whole folder myself just to repost it here & fill a request, but that's reeeeally time-consuming & redundant.. not to mention eating into my own hdd space. Instead I've taken to PM'ing the other user(s) individually as it's the only way I have to pass on such info (posting in the general Forums they likely won't find it)... and again, if there's more than one vote for a title then you'd have to PM each user that requested it.

It also means that only those people would know that the request has been filled, which possibly means wasted time & energy by other users here. Example: This past week I saw a request for an OST I didn't have, but I'd just seen it on another website. I PM'd the requester to let them know that site's address; they PM'd me back saying thanks & that they'd get the files there. So, that user got the OST they wanted but meanwhile, the request here on RPGN still looked unfilled because I hadn't uploaded it as a torrent here -- which I couldn't do simply because I didn't *have* the soundtrack myself. The very next day, a different user saw the same — apparently unfilled — request and kindly uploaded it as a torrent here... which of course was totally nice of them but they could've been saved the time & trouble. Things like that are why I started wishing I could leave a comment on the Requests just like the regular already-posted torrents.

Anyway, maybe it's not something you'll want to develop at this point, but I thought I'd just share the suggestion & see if it was a feature you think could be useful for the people using the tracker.

I agree with his suggestion about adding a comments ability to the requests section. It just makes too much sense. :)

As to his other point about referring people to other sites, I don't really know. I mean, I have no problem with his example. Helping people find what vgm they want is what we're here for. But it does pose the problem of technically leaving the request unfilled on the tracker site. Hmmm, what to do...

I actually suggested that comment ability almost immediately after the tracker got online. Locke Cole said he would take a look at it, but probably got distracted by something else, as usual. He still hasn't added µTorrent in the torrent ID section either, eventhough I have whined about it for a week or so. :p

As for referring to other sites. I have snagged stuff from other sites and posted them to the torrent, because eventhough there might be only person to actually request it, I like to make it available to everyone, not just the one person who requested it.

Also, there has also been talk about adding a function to delete requests that get filled by some other means. But Locke Cole probably got distracted again. :D

Yes, it is unofficial. As far as I know, there are two BoF3 album, the oh so incomplete soundtrack, and the drama album.

Well here's what puzzles me...there is a karaoke version of "pure again" or whatever on that unofficial album. Where has the person got that from? I no longer have the BOF3 game so I cannot check to see if they put it on the disc...

Anyway if its on the disc I will soon have it when i get it back. To be honest I am not sure whether I will record the lost songs again digitally. The one thats released has, srangely a low noise level which I didn't expect but it is 160 KB/s bit rate..Anyone have a better version? Anyone know who originally recorded I need to contact them.

A few weeks a go I searched for Frank Klepacki to see if he had released an official CD for Command and conquer Red Alert Retaliation (PSX version) which contained remixes of alot of the orginal PC tunes.

I found what looked like a page about the CD but didn't book mark.

I have been searching google now for 15 minutes including the regular music soundtrack websites but...zip.

I need to know because if there isn't a released CD I will rip it.

I don't know what to make of the box set yet, I have edited this message about 9 times from awful through to good then back again.

Best thing I can say for sure so far is the music releases in this one taken from from the old soundtrack are better by a little bit.

I need actual game before I say whether its a mess up or not, but 1 or 2 are obvious remixes and could have done without them for certain. Someone go to my server above and tell me which is closer to the original music. part 1 of the mp3 or part 2.

The PSF pack actually sounds less distortion and more "full", i think they have tried to hard to make these sound clear and have actually taken away from the music rather than adding to. Like I say need real game....

With the help of a friend I can now tell you that unfortunately the new BOF3 released tracks are inferior and a total waste of time.

Not only content with new remixes, they also decided to alter bass lines and reverb.

Thanks alot to the arseholes who "remastered" BOF3, I now have to record them manually.

If you are looking for OSTs only, then you can scrap Starcraft of your list right away. It doesn't have an OST, only redbook audio rip. I have seen Starcraft & Broodwar OST floating around in some torrent sites (crappy quality too), but I've yet to see any reliable information regarding it, so chances are that it's redbook as well rather than OST.
Same goes for Startropics, except that instead of redbook you'd probably have to settle for a gamerip or nsf rip.
And according to what I know, it looks like the tracks you seek for DKC2 are empty tracks. Each track is 7 seconds of pure silence. Which is probably why they were left out from whatever pack you downloaded to get the rest of the tracks.
You might have better luck finding the Goemon 64 OST by looking for Ganbare Goemon instead of Mystical Ninja.
And finding a decent rip of Starfox is a pain in the ass.

And no, I don't have any of these. :D

I'm going to assume that you want Tales of Phantasia rather than Symphonia since you linked to that, and are talking about other SNES musics as well. And since you talk about ripping music from SNES roms, I might as well direct you to the best SPC archive on the internets. Check snesmusic.org (http://snesmusic.org/v2/) for all your SPC needs.

If anyone ever tells you that zophar is better, they are full of it. Zophar is (used to be?) larger, but is horribly out of date, full of incomplete rips without tags or times. It's a horrible horrible place.

Also, Gun Hazard is not actually Front Mission 2. Totally different game. Front Mission 2 is composed by Noriko Matsueda and released for PlayStation and Front Mission: Gun Hazard is by Uematsu, Mitsuda, Nakano and Hamauzu and came out on SNES.

yeah sorry I meant "Tales of Phantasia", I was watching the series "Tales of Symphonia" and I got carried away. I guess.

I realized that... there was a difference between Gun Hazard and the Front Mission series... In the game file, "Front Mission 2" was used incorrectly, and I did a copy and paste which resulted in this confusion. Sorry. This game's OST by far is the most elusive to get online, not to mention the confusion among the naming and all already. Nope, it's not in the website you suggested either.

I now have the .spc files for "Tales of Phantasia" and "Yoshi's Island", but how do I work these files? What program should I use?

In the snesarchive I linked earlier are a few methods to play. Whenvere I feel like listening to spc files, I use Winamp with a plugin to play the files.


I should also note that as well as the ToP cd soundtrack, atleast Gun Hazard has an official cd soundtrack available. Don't know about Yoshi's Island. So that's an option too if you don't like spc.

Ripping music out of roms varies from format to format. As in, SPC ripping is totally different from NSF, for example. Try googling it. Besides, it seems a bit pointless to start ripping now since most if not all the games have been ripped already. :) Atleast from the older stuff. I don't think there is a format for NDS or PSP yet.

As for converting, easy. Google it. Seriously. It's one of those things that is so easy that it hurts and not to mention documented all over the place.

Just for informations, I will explain my point of view about video games and the musics.

From my point of view, games are a form of art just as paintings, radio musics, books or movies are. Many people don't see video games this way and I regret that. Many games have a really interesting story with really pretty drawings and beautifull musics. The problem is that games begin to be lost in history such as many other "things" and it makes me a little bit sad sometimes.

A video games museum would be great but for the moment it's only through the internet that such informations can be shared (according to the law).

At the begining I was extracting the musics from the game but it was a little bit boring. Then I searched any informations about the game and I found there was a OS. So I was really really interested in it since I love this game since de age of 14.

I've recently worked on updating my videogame music collection to lossless. There are plenty of things I haven't found yet, but some of it I don't really mind - it's not like I can hear a difference between FLAC and high quality VBR. But, I know that FLAC is preferable for archiving purposes, and so I want it if I can get it.

The one CD I am looking for now is Orchestral Game Concert 4, also known as Game Music Concert 4. I've been able to get all the other CD's in the series in FLAC, this is the only one missing - if I could find this last one, I could upload it all in a torrent for everyone's benefit.

Anyone have that? Perhaps in CD form, or already in FLAC or APE? Any lossless format is fine with me.

Hmm, unfortunately I only deal with MP3s so I can't be of much help with the EAC/FLAC/Perfect Rips. I have a few CDs, but even those I only have mp3 copies on my drive. Just too much music to keep the larger files. Hopefully someone can help you.

High variable bitrate would be good enough for me (though I wouldn't say no to lossless either), right now I'm rocking with the #gamemp3s rip that is ripped with the old --r3mix -b128 preset, which isn't good enough for my Golden Ears™.

I believe it's a soundtrack associated with an animated series from Japan. There's a wiki page about the series, I believe. Some of this comes up when I listen to final fantasy radio on aol radio, and I enjoy it; would love to have it to listen to at my leisure.
