The Purpose of Meaning

I understand that this has been discussed alot around places but I think we can enjoy this topic a bit more. What do you guys think?

Well, before I enter into the discussion fully I'd just like to get it clarified a little bit. What do you mean by the purpose of meaning?

The purpose of meaning as in philiosophy. Everything has a meaning and there has to be a purpose behind that meaning...right?

Hmm I would think that the purpose of meaning is in passing on understanding? Your question is really an abstract and tough one, I'll need to think a lot more about it before I make a proper post...

Well, I think that the purpose of meaning would be something more along the lines of the love of knowledge in any way shape or form. The meaning behind the learning could be many different things, from personal enlightenment, better understanding of the world and what we live in it, to how we perceive life experiences and how we translate our ideals into actions. There is still many many different angles this discussion could take.
