All right, who plays PSO? On what platform? Who no longer plays, and why? Have you tried the new versions? Are you tired of Ragol Fried Booma?

I first played PSO while my main PC was dead and I was downloading game demos on my woefully under 3d-accelerated laptop . I tried it out, and it ran horribly, but I was intrigued. I had read about PSO years earlier and assumed it was an very different game. Had I known what it was really like, I just might have bought a Dreamcast. At any rate, I forgot about it for a long time, as a series of mishaps destroyed most of my downloads and installed games.

Fast forward about 2 years. All of a sudden, I found out PSO Ep 1 & 2 was going to come out for Gamecube in a few months. I spent days trying to find the PSO PC demo; it was difficult to come by at that point as the PC version wound up never coming out outside of Japan. Finally, I found it, installed it, and yes, it was that oddly tantalizing game I had played! Not only that, but this demo was much more inclusive. I could see the title screen, create a character, and even play a whole stage online or offline, whereas the earlier demo was a solo romp with a fixed character and a single area.

I picked up a 'cube, and Super Smash at first. Animal Crossing caught my eye for a while, but finally PSO came out! It wound up being even cooler than the PC version and I eagerly awaited the release of the Gamecube broadband adapter. Since just after Halloween that year, I've played PSO for GCN online pretty regularly. Still haven't reached level 200, but I've spread my attention across almost 12 characters :)

I have played since early 2000 on Dreamcast initially, and then the long horrible wait for v.2 nearly destroyed my mind. Then it finally came out, and I found out that Sonic Team hates Forces, so I nearly gave up on it until I found out that it was coming out for Gamecube. Reserved my GC copy and a BBA, got it around Halloween 2002, and I've been re-addicted ever since. I was impressed by how they balanced the game more fairly, as in the previous version, there was really no point to being a Force besides being your party's support spell bitch. I literally got mad every time I played the earlier versions, much to the constant dismay of my teammates. ^^;

I've mostly stuck with my little Force, and it's paid off pretty well. :D I also got to meet my favorite HUcast teammate and we've stuck with each other ever since ^^ *pokes Ice*

Anyone who's thinking of picking up this game should really give it a try. PSO+ is (supposedly) coming out later this month for GC and it'll be well worth it to wait, as it'll be cheaper than the original version and have extra stuff. Plus, you can play with MEEEE (Hm, maybe that isn't really an incentive). Also, the subscription price is cheaper than most online games and IMO, it's so much more fun than your standard MMO. The combat is action-based and you can get into it whether your character is level 1, 10, or 156.

:D I had (and still have it hooked up) a Dreamcast, but the only thing I ever played online with it was Quake, and even then I especially suffered from the dial-up lag, because the phone lines in my area were ancient apparently. For that reason and all the infamy surrounding the treasure stealing in PSO, I never bit. Did it have a subscription price at that time? :wonder:

Since then, I have resisted it for the same reason I am the latest Final Fantasy: I won't pay a subscription fee - period. Not for one game. :nana: At this time the only such thing I will even come close to considering is the Xbox Live service, which costs me less than $5 per month and allows me access to several games titles online. :shades:

I played it quite a bit on the dreamcast. That was the first online multiplayer console game I've ever played. Good times. I played it some more on the PC, and I'd play it on the xbox if they didn't charge a monthly fee for their servers.

I play/played on X-box, and I still do when I'm bored. It's an excellent time waster when 12 year old's aren't screaming in your ear. ~_~; The immaturity of some of the players online is just amazing, but I guess that can't be helped with an on-line game, especialy one with a mic. Find some decent people to play with and it's REALLY fun and addictive!

My main character is a level 107 HUnewearl ((I HATE the names for the classes...)) However with the sad Suspension on my live account, I haven't been playing. . .soooo T-T It's just boring by yourself for a while, and I don't have the money to pick up a broad band adapter, and PSO for teh 'Cube. If I do you can probably catch me on there some time, sinc Sonic Team hates X-box anyways.

I had it on dreamcast but gave it up when I found out that you needed Cash to play the 2nd version. the X box version looks good but I can't justify buying a online game to play when I have 3 accounts in other RPGs. I was the Robot maid with a gun.

:D Back when I still watched television, Nickelodeon was probably my most watched channel, unless Cartoon Network beat it out. ;)

I'm with you on the whole FF thing. Its one of the only reasons I haven't jumped into the game like the bazillion others. I might have considered it if FFXI came with some sort of offline mode as well, not to mention I have enough monthly bills to keep me busy. :p

:D Don't get me wrong, it's not like I wouldn't like to play it. But still, even if I could afford it, I probably wouldn't subscribe, because I don't want to encourage the companies - each time something like that is successful, you run the risk of more games being subscription based. :p

secondly... subscription-based games have already proven to be insanely profitable, so i doubt your boycott would have that much of an effect.

(i had something else to say, but i decided to delete it cuz it was too off-topic, just so you know criticizing you like that wasn't truly my full intent...)

:) It's been awhile, but I think I meant console games. I know subscription-based games have long been popular on the PC, but less so on consoles themselves. Personally, I'd prefer everyone boycott such before it becomes a standard rather than after. *shrug* :bouncy:
