If you don't know, he's the guy who made The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and now The Village.

I went and saw The Village last night and while I did enjoy it and am glad I went, I have to admit I was kind of disappointed. It just didn't live up to Signs, which is one of my all-time favorite movies.

So in this thread, talk about the new movie The Village or any of the previous ones! :peace:

The only movie of his I liked was sixth sence.I thought it was very original and that kid is very creepy.
I was really dissapointed at signs. No invadeing force would be that stupid. If they had the technology to cloak they would of wore water proof armour or at least carried side arms.It should of ended in a horrific battle where the aliens learn that humans are unlike any of the other beings they conquered, that they are a parasitic and suicidal race and could destroy there culture if they didnt flee.
The only reason why I dont go see the village right now is that 2 of my sisters went with there boyfreinds and they liked it.Usally what they like I hate. Also I noticed theres no R rating.Ill wait for a dl.

Ok, without going into a huge essay, I'm going to say that the aliens and their technology (or lack thereof) is absolutely not the point of the movie. That's why the name of it is Signs and not Aliens.

Look deeper into the movie. Pretend the aliens are just another human army.

Come'on go into a essay.I rarely get to discuss movies with any one. When I talk to my brothers and sisters about movies they get into stupid details about action scenes and nudity. My mom likes signs mainly because of mel gibson and no other reason.
I saw signs 3 times, because there was nothing else on starz at the time, but wthout disscusion I probably missed out on some obvious stuff.I guess I saw it through a tactical view only.
Ill see it again,I think I have it on tape in the living room tv cabinet.
I will do as you suggest and see it as though it was a human army.
Joaquin Phoenix is a really good actor.

Look deeper into the movie. ...it's actually a brilliant satire on how everything in real life lacks even the slightest glint of significance whatsoever.

:D While this is obviously untrue, you've hit closer than you might realize. ;)

I haven't seen the newest of his movies yet, but I really enjoyed Sixth Sense and Signs. I liked Unbreakable up until the ending, which imo completely sucked - though I understand that its sudden comic book feel was very likely intentional. :p

Well What I like about M. Night Shyamalan's movies are that they all have twists... Like in 6th Sense how there was someting weird about the father. (I shouldn't say it out loud.. =P) And in the Village it was something about how the Village people lived... But I really love his movies!

I remember seeing one movie about a boy in a kind of religious school. And the movie was all about faith. I remember I as rather surprised by the type of movie he did . I don't remember the title, but the little boy loses his grandfather and keeps believing god will help him.

The sixth sense was good but nothing really spectacular. I never understanded why it made so much money. The plot was sooo obvious I discovered it when the women shivers at the very beggining of the movie.

I'm not gonna say 'spoiler alert' coz I tried to make it as vague as possible, but if you like to know nothing, not even the names of people or that they do thins besides exist, when going into a movie, skip on.

I like his movies, because I can never guess the twist near the end. Often. Sometimes, yes, but often no.

Went to see The Village last night. The twist near the end (I figured it out when they opened the . . . box . . . and . . . 'perused' its contents) literally made me half-whisper, half-say 'holy crap!' . . . I got a shush or two . . . and yet, when Ivy . . . completed her . . . 'quest,' I guess you could say, the whole crowd was like, 'ooooooooh.'

Of course, Islanders are generally movie stupid people. Me n' Kai saw it. He said he talked to a couple of people who hated it - that was a tip-off for me and him that we'd enjoy it thoroughly, which we did. Seriously, like, a couple of the jokes, we'd laugh at, then 10 seconds later, the rest of the crowd would.

Like (and this is not a spoiler, I think) when Ivy opened the closet to get a blanket, and Noah was hiding in there and she didn't see him.
We had a good laugh, but about 30-40 seconds into the next scene, a woman close in front of us said, 'oh, she couldn't see him because she's blind!' God, how dense can one be?

Wholeheartedly reccomend the movie, though. And, Jetblue, what the hell :wacky: ? Won't see it because it's not rated R? It's not supposed to be all that scary, although it tends to be in a couple of scenes. I'd go for the plot, the interesting and well-played characters, and the thematic, open music.

but yes, it was intended as a joke. =)

:emlaugh: Reading my post quoted makes me realize how condescending it sounds - which wasn't my intention at all. I was joking with you about what I assumed to be your joke (sort of a tongue-in-tongue-in-cheek ;)). Nevertheless, I apologize. :)

Saw the movie today.
Im speechless. I think its the best movie of the year so far. Academy award stuff. Hes best movie.
All those good actors and actresses really made it good.
Mabey I liked it so much because thats been one of my fantasys since I was about 16. To leave this savage land and make a shangrila.

Me and my mom saw it.We knew somethig was up because of the way they talked. Not to period and shamalan is a experienced director and wouldnt make that mistake. Also no firearms and some other details. Can you pick some out? Theres 3 more.
I pretty sure shamalan used a small buget for the movie.Brilliant.

I kept thinking about Jersey Devil. I want to say more but that might be spoiler. But I recommend this movie highly.A very adult movie.

I still want to make a community. I know the perfect place. Whos with me?

To get off topic, check out the trailer for the movie "The Saw" (or Saw)with Danny Glover by Lions Gate films. I dont know whos directing yet.
Creeepy movie!!!!!!!!
Cant wait to see it!

You go right ahead :D

I didn't guess the big twist. I noticed they takled weird, but heck - they're an isolated community.

Guns would be pointless - there's nothing to hunt (in the woods?); the only reason to have them around would be protection, but protection from what, each other? I doubt the monsters would 'appreciate' knowing the townsfolk were armed . . . I'm sure the elders would have something to say about that :D

Really, I didn't notice it. Many things were forgiveable - they are cut off, and may not know what's normal :D .

Y'know, I saw one guy who said the movie's acting was laughable. What an idiot. He said, 'gee, Ivy seems to be able to see pretty well for a blind girl' . . . well, buddy, I guess you missed the whole part where she can see auras. Very clever.

I definitely agree that the woman who played Ivy acted amazingly well. There were times throughout the movie where she made me laugh simply by her mannerisms and expressions. She certainly deserves an award for that performance.

I of course knew something was up (they were keeping a secret - the box, etc), but did not guess it. Knowing what I know now, I want to go back and see it again so I can pick up all the missed phrases and actions that point to the ending.

:spoiler:

I was kind of disappointed there were no real monsters, though. :P

Oh, of course, everyone would guess something was going on. It's an M. Night Shyamalan movie, for heaven's sake. It's what it was that was so elusive . . .

:spoiler:

I think he revealed that there were no monsters just at the right point. Saying there were none made it all the more scarier to see that there actually was one in the forest. Even though it turned out to be Noah, it was still pretty scary. You knew they weren't supposed to be real, so it was all, like 'what the hell?'

I was hearing on the radio today from this famous chicago movie critic say that The Village was not worth seeing and a waste of time. What a idiot! Then he spoke harshly of Alien vs. Predator and said only the Bourne Supremeacy was a good movie to watch this weekend. Then the radio host said he saw The Village and was dissapointed and the story was lame.
I cant belive I almost ended up like these morons.
These people just dont get the powerful message behind the film.

Now I wish I saw that special they had on Shamalan on the SciFi channel 3 weeks ago.
