KotOR was an excellent game for the most part - I can't wait for a sequel! :shades: I was under a different name(NebulaY), but I was away from the boards for a while though. Feels good to be back, and to see a fresh look too!

Looking forward to the sequel as well and speaking of Tetris, it reminds me of Dr. Mario, which I still play for my Gameboy. Very addictive, especially the music.

Also, I've been meaning to mention it - could you add the old Star Rank icons to the database? They'd be handy for when we're reviewing a game, movie, or book. Example: Fight Club was an excellent movie!http://www.rpgamers.net/cgi-bin/board/images/stars5.gif ! :bouncy:

I've been helping my husband play through Pretty Princess Dress-up, er, uh, Final Fantasy X-2 (no, really, I do like the game!).
Personally, I'm currently playing: Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. Yes, three farming games all at once. May the giggling begin!

On PC: Unreal 2004, Battlefield 1942, and Diablo II

On Emulators: Streets of Rage 2, Earthbound, Phantasy Star 4, Assault Suits Valken (AKA Cybernator), Gundam Wing: Endless Duel, Samuria Spirits, Wild Guns and Sonic 3.

I finished Super Castlevania 4 (which btw is actually same story than the of the original castlevania, not new adventures of Simon) and Dracula X. I used cheats for both, because I didn't really like the games that much, just wanted to see every bits of story that there is to them.

And now I'm playing SotN. Without cheats. Hooray for Castlevania.

I've been poking around Quake 3 Arena on the PC, as well as working through my second round of Front Mission 4 for PS2 (new game + option). I also recently pulled out my Disgaea save again, since the game lets you level yourself to lv19998, as well as every item to 19998, enhance items, etc. its an RPG XP-whoring extravaganza! I could level up stuff forever in this damn game.

I'm still playing SotN.

:spoiler:
I'm right now at the inverted castle. First time I kicked Richters ass, I was like..."What, this can't be how this damn game ends" :) Then I noticed couple places that I had missed from the map, mainly the one dark area that you can only get through if you know the way, or if you use the sonar. Would have probably taken a lot more time than it did if I hadn't had the fairy familiar out at the moment. Well, anyway, I got the spikebreaker and then the silver ring, and then the holy glasses, and now I'm on inverted castle. The difficulty level raises quite a bit when you enter in the inverted castle. Enemies die just like that, but they do whole lot more damage. Hooray! I was worried that this might be too easy game.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is still very easy. The battles between Death/Grim Reaper and Dracula himself are pathetically easy.

Anyway, I am currently playing a translated ROM of Bahamut's Lagoon on ZSNES but it hasn't been completely interesting to me. While the strategy rpg style battles are a nice change of pace, the story and the battles themselves can be very boring. Granted, I'm not that far into the story yet.

Well, yeah, SotN is not really difficult, but more difficult than it seemed in the beginning. None of the boss battles were difficult at all, but some of the regular enemies did some serious damage, which was surprising. In every other game the regular enemies do only a fraction of the total hp, in this game some took almost 100hps out of my 600. Awesome :)

Oh yeah, I did finish it yesterday. 199.7%. I know couple of places that I missed, but I can't think of anyway I could have gotten more. I can see from the map the places I miss, because the map outline isn't white on those spots. Just couldn't get them. No matter really.

Haven't decided what to play next.

:spoiler:
As far as I know, the only places I missed are in floating caverns, or whatever they were called. Watery areas in the inverted castle. Eventhough I use high jump (or superjump? down, up + jump), I can't get all the roof squares on the map. The roof on those spots is unbreakable, so it would require me to go through the roof. Either there is a bug in the version I have, or I would need to locate the exact spot (pixel left, jump, pixel left, jump) to get the remaining pieces. Of course there is a possibility for a missed secret room as well. Don't know about all the equipment. Too lazy to hunt down every piece available. My enemy list is not full either. Some of the enemies probably drop some equipment I don't have. Elemental armors is my best guess. And probably some accessories. Too much trouble to go through all that. Though, if I play it second time through with Alucard, I might hunt down more stuff. And get my familiars to bigger levels, now my sword familiar was around 30 and fairy was 17.

Damn fine game I might add. Ace soundtrack as well. Too bad that Lament of Innocence was crap.

When your underwater and you change back and forth between normal and wolf, you rise a bit. Use that to hug the ceiling and slowly move around intill you get that damn map space recieved. Remember that when the castle was right side up, the maps coverage thing ASSUMED you were walking ON THE GROUND. Since it's now the ceiling, this makes it a pain in the ass sometimes to ge the whole map.

:spoiler:
You can play as Richter in PSX version as well, just write Richter as your name(not entirely sure whether or not you need to beat Dracula as Alucard first). There is no real plot when playing Richter, you just go on and fight with your whip until you reach Shaft. If you have played Chi no Rondo(Rondo of Blood) on Turbo-Duo, think of it as a expansion disc to that game. In Saturn version you can play as Maria, but the basic idea is the same as in the Richter game. The maps are a bit different, but only slightly. There are couple rooms in Richter game that are not in Alucard game. The gameplay is totally different though. Richter has all the same movements he has in the prologue scenario, running, backflip, weapon crash and whatnots. I probably should play some more of it. Seems like it could be a bit more difficult.

Im still on disc 1 of Panzer Saga but took a break and started to play Radiant Silvergun to see why so many saturn players like it.
Its good and all but difficult as hell. I like that there are so many weapons on such a tiny ship but theres to many enemys shooting at you. I dont think theres no way I can get past level 3. Does anyone have information on a game called Bio Hazard 1.5 Beta? I dont remember capcom ever realeaseing it or seeing it before in the past on other sites. Im thinking its a joke or someones homebrew. Anyone played it?
I just got it but dont have any c.d.media to try it on. Im afraid it will become another coaster.

Kilu
10-25-2004, 12:56 PM
Well, Bio Hazard 1.5 is the game that was supposed to be BH2, but the director or some hotshot decided that it was too similar to the first BH, so they started from scratch and voila, we have BH2.

So basicly, the the game never got out, but it's possible that someone inside Capcom decided to take it home for kids, or something. And kids do evil things.

I'm always hesitant when I see stuff like that shared online. Though I always download them anyway. Still, I have yet to encounter the 'actual' BH1.5 game. Last BH beta game I got had all kinds of debug screens and junk like that. I could skip the scenes in it, basicly start the game and jump to the final battle with only pistol as my weapon :D But there was still small problem of graphics in that one. Everytime the fixed angle changed, it didn't actually change backround, eventhough the screen had changed. So I had to guess where the right path between the car wrecks and whatnots goes. Also, it left a ghosts of all the polygon models over the backround :D :) So, yeah, definitely beta game :)

Did you intend to play it on your PSX/PS2 or did you plan to emulate it? If emulation was the way you were going to go, you might want consider mounting the image on a virtual drive and play it from there. No need to waste blank cds :)

Another thing I once downloaded, was some sort of movie compilation of japanese BH, and some previews from BH1.5 (which obviously at that time was still going to be released as BH2). I'm betting that the cd was some sort of promo cd that came with some japanese vg mag, or maybe it was a preview for vg mags. Or something else, similar to that. Anyway, the best part of that download was the fact that it had UNCENCORED fmvs from BH1 :) Yes, Chris Redfield smokes in the introduction and one of the ending videos  Also, the opening video has more of that guy who gets eaten by the dogs :) And it's of course dubbed in japanese. Oh the joy! Second best part are the videos from BH1.5 in action. The game had grenades :( Why did the pull the grenades out? It seemed like the coolest idea ever. There is also a shooting range in the previews, something that didn't make it to final game either. Not to mention that the female protagonist is not Claire Redfield, but a lady called Elza Walker. I wonder what did they plan for her story to be in the game?

/ramble

Maybe you can tell already, but if you didn't guess, this is one of my favourite subjects to ramble about :)

jetblue
10-25-2004, 02:03 PM
I was hoping you would answer kilu. Your knowledge of RE is legendary.
Great suggestion on using an emulator. http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif

I wonder about that Elza also. I remember old videogame magazines with her picture in them. Then she was gone.

Kilu
10-26-2004, 11:15 AM
Well, of what little information I have gathered from this Elza, she was also supposed to be a biker. Basicly the same backround that Claire Redfield ended up having, expect the small part with "looking for her brother" and all that. I wonder if they actually had the whole game written by the time they decided to do it over. It would be interesting to get hands on these prelim games/scripts :) Another thing about Elza. If I remember correctly, one of the prelim videos I have seen had english voice overs in it, and Elza was also acted by the same person than Claire ended up being. That kind of implies that the game was rather finished, given that they had acted dialogue already.

Or maybe they just decided to record couple lines for the videos. Who knows :)

I'm currently replaying Chrono Trigger because I haven't played it in a while, and a bit of Tales Of Symphonia as well in the mean time. I must say, Tales of Symphonia to me is one of those quality of RPG's that I thought lost forever. It is put together with the love and care of games like FF6 and 7. Your main character (though dumb as a post) is a cool character, without any major annoying traits, it's an incredibly in-depth game, and it has a quasi new-game-plus. I love it, and definently gotta get out and buy it soon, rather then getting Kai to rent it for the 3rd week straight :P . That's all my opinion, but I honestly believe that It's a game worth anybodies time to rent and play.

Far and above any I have seen or played in this day and age! The best part about it is unlike many other RPG's I play, the combat dosen't just become a trivial distraction, and the makers actually seem to understand that the average gamer is not interested in fighting thousands of random battles just to see a BIT of storyline. Boring, Random battles in Chrono kick ass, because often you can AVOID the pethetic enemies that are way below your level, in the parts that invole going to old areas.
Best game ever.

I don't know about "The best game ever", but it's definently up there. I made it through 3 of the endings, then my comp got formatted http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/bawl.gif. So, now I'm spending every moment of game time in Samurai War, the highly addictive mmorpg that's mentioned in the RPG thread. At least I'm getting game time in, I guess.....

Well yes is one of the best Rpg, Cuz is very easy to play and is very enjoyable and has a very good replay value, but after that came good rpg like Chrono Cross, Suikoden 1 Y 2 (and 4 me 3 was good too), Persona 1 y 2 and of course Xenogears. But I must say that is One of the Best Rpg.

well, i'm trying to get through the monstrosity known as gta: san andreas. there is just way too much to do in that game. after that, depending on if i try metal gear solid 3 or not, i'll probaly run through vagrant story for the 8 millionth time or so. (why is there not a sequel to this game, AAARGH!!!!!!!!)

but that's just my .02$

Well GTA its a good game no much stroy but good gameplay and no replay value (well or me is taht so cuz its very tiring to do all the jobs but its fun the first time) and regular-good graphics and good control enjoyable the first time:D

bjp4444
12-01-2004, 04:37 PM
i personally think the story in this most current gta is the best yet. perhaps it will never be as engrossing as a ff or what have you, but in a way, san andreas is an rpg, but an rpg of a different genre or calibre. i mean , in essense, you can control just about all of the facets of the main characters life, and how that affects the world around him. no swords and spells, but you're still playing a role. and a fun one at that.

again, why no more vagrant story? (although ff xii is to be by the same team as vs, so perhaps i'll have some flashbacks)

but that's just my .02$

Well seen that way, yes, but I was wrong when I put that doesnt had story but what I mean is like, how do I say..... Repetitive, adn after all the tedious jobs and finish the game don't want to play it again, because I had it and I change it for Suikoden III (by the way, Suikoden IV a little more time and it would be here) and I was tired when I finish it, and about Vagrant Story Good Game no complains :)

i certainly was not trying to start an argument, and i hope you did not take it that way. i can see your point, and i sort of agree. but i rarely play any game more than really twice (vagrant story being an obvious exception).

Finaly figured out how to play Berserk.
I was stuck on not chooseing the right combination of japanese words and kept reapeating the same level.
Now I can advance. It kinda reminds me of the game for Dreamcast.
True to the anime. Nice and bloody and the evil buddahist looking demons and monsters are great. They made Griffith look more feminine though. Its confusing.
Just wish I could understand what they were saying. Cant find good translation.

First post...woo!

I just beat Shadow Hearts (I know it's old, but I just got it not too long ago) and have started up Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (another old game I haven't gotten around to).

And still addicted to the Ratchet and Clank games...

Kilu

I have beaten Ratchet & Clank not too long ago, though I don't have all the extra junk yet. Maybe I'll hunt them down later. Right now I'm playing Jak II, and I also bought Ratchet & Clank 2, as they were both platinum :)

Also, hi Maxim, and welcome to the forums :)

Ratchet and Clank 2 is much better than the first game, in my opinion. However, if you attempt to level up each gun you get, you'll be playing the game for much longer. There's just more to do, too. If you enjoyed the first one, you will definitely enjoy the second one!

I hope to get R&C:Up Your Arsenal, the third one, for Christmas. Then I'll just be addicted again!

Thanks for welcoming me!

Right now I should be playing Homeworld 2 but I have work to do *yuck... even during holidays :(*
My brother also got me hooked on these Yu-Gi-Oh ! PC games. It's not that stupid, and somewhat addictive since you have to get more and more cards for your deck to be competitive enough :b What's more, there's a lot of tactics involved... This is where my bro is better than me, because he has seen the animation series

I'm playing way too many games for my own good at the moment. Replaying FFIX, playing FFTA & FF1&2 Dawn of Souls, Metroid Prime and Metroid Fuson, Neverwinter Nights, Grandia 2... AAGH! Brain overload trying to follow al those plots! I also plan to start FFXI among other things, once I've completed a few and reduced the stress of trying to play so many games at once.

tanisthalon
12-22-2004, 02:33 PM
How good is FFXI?
The hard drive was never released in the UK :(. So the only version is for PC. It was released a while ago with all the mission packs for a nice price. If it is good, I may look into getting it a bit more.
Its just I have a fair few games on the go and coming at christmas, that time is restricted to the decent ones e.g. I get Half Life 2 for christmas, and mentioned in another post Disgaea. I have a few other PS2 games and a secret GBA game coming. That reminds me, I still havent finished Sword of Mana :(.

Last Monday, I was searching for a copy of DDR for the PS2 for my friend, but came up empty. During that time, I went to a movie and used game store to see what they had and it completely shocked me.

They had a used copy of Super Smash Bros for the N64 that just arrived that day. So I scooped that up plus Jet Force Gemini (it was cheaper to buy two games than just one) because I haven't played that game in a while. So those are the two games I am currently playing right now.

Other than that, I have to relearn a lot of my fighting game abilities by playing the ROM versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and King of Fighters 98 because I haven't played them in a while and I just got a regular PS2 gamepad which is giving me a bit of a hard time to get used to (I really don't like the four button D-Pad).

Finished playing the last 2 japanese officially released dreamcast games:Baldr Force and Chaos feild. Both games were good. I liked Chaos feild more mainly because it was a shooter. Baldr force has some good anime scenes. The fighting system was a bit hard.
They both seemed outdated. Mabey if they were realesed a few years ago they would of been good. I was expecting these last 2 games to be a fantastic tribute to dreamcast. Especially with all the extras you get if you pre-order.
There are no more games in devolopment but mabey I hope another company will make some that will shock the gaming world.

http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/confused.gif Been playing Star Ocean 3 for a little under 5 hours upto now and the story, what there is up to now, is all over the shop! My cruise ship has been destroyed, the planet it was on is a ball of fire, the safe zone I went to was attacked, the evacuation ship was attacked, I crash landed my pod and saved a kid, then I was sort of kidnapped, then my kidnappers ship crash landed on yet another planet, myself and Cliff are then broken free from jail by a girl, then her escape plan crumbles and we bail to wander the land to cross the border. I have no idea what is going on yet, space scenes are pretty though :). Hopefully it will settle down soon and start the story. I mean 2 dvd's for a game can be a bit too much, maybe.

Marle and Lucca- Bulma (DBZ and the original Dragon ball)
Magus- Supreme Kai (DBZ/DBGT)
and cetera... hmm...

Burnout 3 is an anomally as far as racing games go imo. It's the one racing game (This doens't count double dash btw) I'd actually consider owning because it's so well done. I'm not sure if crash mode is an improvement over 2 but almost everything else is.

Didn't the DBZ guy (Akira Toriyama, I believe) do the cutscenes in the PS version of Chrono Trigger? I thought I heard that, and the screenshots I saw had the Reptite king looking SO much like Piccolo.

Yes he did. I kinda don't like the DBZ style, so I really wasn't impressed.

I am playing Magna Carta for the PS2 right now. It's good with a great soundtrack, but graphically it looks a lot like FF-X and there's a bit too much back-tracking to previous parts.

Finished Rockman X4 with X and Zero.. all uprades, hearts, tanks and stuff. Playing with Zero is so great.. I luv his combos. He's far better than X, in my opinion. Dont know why X got so many fans. Well, he can attack at distance but zero can eleminate the entire screen with a bunch of good timed combos. The last general and sigma are a little hard with zero. Same for slash beast... I think its like impossible to finish X4 without refilling sub tanks at sigmas stage.. but that takes/took me so long x_X Anyway, its finished so nevermind ^_^
Time to start a RPG again. I dont know yet which one... lets see. I could play a classic one once again.. :)

Hmm.. rockman x? I dont think so.. but theres a similar game called Rockman Zero for GBA. I've played it only for short, so I cant give a detailed raiting. Well, its not as good as rockman x, since zero is having more style in Rockman X but its still nice to play, I'd say.
So if you like to play something where you smash buttons non-stop and kick some stage boss butt's, I'd recommend Rockman Zero for GBA :D Lunar Legends is also worth to be played, at least one time. Well, but only if you havent played Lunar Silver Star Story Complete yet, since Lunar Legends is a remake with some graphic changes. :)

Well I like Secret of Mana too but I found it a little boring towards the end, but that is mainly because I discovered Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) : 6 characters you can play with with a different background for each of them, great story, three different final bosses... We finished it eight times with my sister.
I found it much better than Secret of Mana (which is a great game btw)

Secret of Mana has a support for multitap built in it. 3 people can play without a patch of anykind. However, someone made a patch for Secret of Evermore where two people can play. That's probably what you meant.

yea! seiken densetsu 2.. its my favourite RPG ever ^_^ played and finished it like 5x times. Theres also a way to play online. Well, I dont know if the z-battle.net server is up. Last times I tried it, he was down.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is also great but it cant beat the good old SD2, in my taste. I bought Seiken Densetsu 3 before 3 years on eBay.com. It's *MINT* and with autographs from square team. Autographs on the foil, so I havent taken it out of its foil. Anyway.. Its japanese, the rom is better for me since I dont understand japanese so good. But at least, its nice to own it :D

Seiken Densetsu 2 was my very very first videogame ever...
it's a treasurechest of memories :)
I still like it better than Seiken Densetsu 3, even though I played through that one about 9 times now - only the last one in English (before I only had my SNES cartridge, and didn't know a single thing about emulation).
Seiken Densetsu 3 is also great, but nothing can beat nostalgia ;)
Secret of Evermore was also neat, but not as cute and colourful as Seiken Densetsu 2...plus, I love the straighforward, oldschool fantasy story of Seiken Densetsu 2 better, and, last but not least, the music :)
It's quite a lot of fun to play together with others...I've never tried it online, though
