I was just wondering if the rest of you have a site/show/magazine you all prefer to use when it comes to game reviews. With some many out there all with differing opinions, what's your preference?

I personally use Electronic Gaming Monthly. I like the "three reviewers to a game" method, as it gives a wide scope of views and play styles. They cover everything, and don't give preferential treatment to games, and they don't seem to predetermine games before review. I believe, if Halo 2 turned out to be a horrible game, they would tell you so, regardless of the hype.

However, I almost never seem to find myself agreeing with X-Play. As delectable as Morgan Webb looks sometimes, they always seem to go against what I would like about a game. Not always, but most of the time.

Any one else have some insight?

I don't read much game mags anymore. Only one I read more than occasionally is a local mag called PELIT, which translates as GAMES. :D Clever name. Anyway, it's been around so long that you have learned which reviewer shares your tastes and as a result I can tell pretty well what games I'd like and not like after reading that mag.

I occasionally check www.gamespot.com as well for quick peeks on what kind of scores has some game had from there, and how well has people scored it.

Yeah, I didn't really know if someone used some way-out there 'zine or site for game review. [Does anyone?] I would guess that not all of us have the same access to the same resources, which might make it hard for everyone to peruse others' choices. I was merely interested; I wanted to widen my horizon of game review.

Hey y'all, I've somewhat been inspired to try my own hand at writing game reviews. I've decided to start off with some older games, then hopefully move onto more current stuff [as much as my budget allows]. The first installment can be found here:

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to improve, so any nitpicking and such it really wanted, actually.
EDIT
Please PM any suggestions or rants, so nto to fill this topic up with that stuff.

Thanks

Not bad at all. A good length for a review, accurate to the game, Kudo's to ya man. Almost makes me want to start doing some reviews for games now.

Personally I don't believe in reading reviews. I find everyone is pretty biased when reviewing games, true you could find someone who reviews games and has the same taste in games as yourself (more or less) but there are always those rare games that will keep your attention even though most view it as a waste of time.

I usually use the fool proof look at the cover art with occasional word of mouth reviews.

Would you buy this game, just by looking at its cover?

BJP - You left me craving the game as I've not yet had a chance to play it

Lance - Oh god yes, the second I saw a game like that I would be heading out and renting it in a second :D

Hey bjp, you should submit the reviews to RPGN :D Eventhough the emphasis is on RPGs, other games get reviews in here as well :)
