View Full Version : Name That Game!

okay, here are the rules...
one person thinks of a game and gives an obscure hint as to which game it is.
you have to name which system it's for...
then everyone else has to guess. if people are having too much trouble, just give another hint. =)
whoever guesses correctly gets free... um... thing. ^.^
oh, and you do the next hint as well.
first one will be an easy one:
this game stars a plumber who can gain flying racoon powers. (NES)
Zedie9
08-02-2004, 12:54 PM
:) Super Marion Bros 3 - though I thought it was on SNES...
Locke Cole
08-02-2004, 12:55 PM
Doh, silver edited his post after :/
Okay, me next :p No peeking on gamefaqs or google to cheat, either. :p
I'm thinking of a game where you compete against AI and other players using rabbits and rhinos. (PSX)
silverDistortioN
08-02-2004, 12:55 PM
i added an edit right after you posted... if you get it right, you have to do the next hint. =)
Locke Cole
08-02-2004, 12:57 PM
Make up all the rules before posting, damnit. I had to edit mine twice already, and since Zedie didn't add a next hint, you can use mine next :p
I'm thinking of a game where you compete against AI and other players using rabbits and rhinos. (PSX)
silverDistortioN
08-02-2004, 01:02 PM
yeah, i didn't mean to imply that Zedie's supposed to come up with the next one... since you already posted yours. it's just for future reference. =)
but i don't know this one... so i'm not guessing. =)
Locke Cole
08-02-2004, 01:04 PM
How long do you think is good between hints? 24 hours? That should give most people a chance to nab at it.
Kyari
08-02-2004, 01:09 PM
I could be wrong, but I think it's a Kart game of some sort. But what game . . .
silverDistortioN
08-02-2004, 01:14 PM
How long do you think is good between hints? 24 hours? That should give most people a chance to nab at it. yeah, 24 is a good number to start with...
but if the boards are slow, then you might want to make it a little longer.
Kyari
08-02-2004, 01:31 PM
With these forums, I don't really think there's any way you can put a number on the average activity of the boards. It's all up to the timing. I'd say to take a look at the situation when it's there. 24 is probably going to be a minimum, but hey - situations may provide, y'know?
What an obscure hint. No games come to my mind. Blank.
Nahkrinoth
08-02-2004, 11:31 PM
Ummm...nothing comes to mind. Post another hint.

08-02-2004, 11:49 PM
Is it tomba?
If not then monster rancher.
Its a american game right?

:knockedout: ...need... more... hints ;)
pikatsu
08-03-2004, 01:41 PM
Flash? Some sort of robot rabbit...
The first game that comes to my mind is Crash Team Racing or whatever the name is for that Crash Banicoot mario kart ripoff. But I don't remember any rhinos or bunnies in there :p
Zedie9
08-03-2004, 02:15 PM
:) I own that game - it has no rhino that I can recall. :spin:
I used to own it too, got it cheap :) It actually was a fun game, eventhough it's a total ripoff.
Locke Cole
08-03-2004, 02:25 PM
Alright, I think its time for a new hint. This one should give it away.
You race against your opponents, and use items such as bombs to knock them down.

08-03-2004, 03:49 PM
Whacky Wheels? And a bit of message stuffing....
Locke Cole

1. I'm thinking of a game where you compete against AI and other players using rabbits and rhinos. (PSX)
2. You race against your opponents, and use items such as bombs to knock them down.
Console: Playstation
Come on people, this one is fairly easy. I guess none of you have played it :/ I'll give you a hint, part of the game's name is in one of the clues.
Kyari
08-03-2004, 08:02 PM
Might be Bomberman Fantasy Race, but I can't remember all of the animals yo can play as in that game . . .
Locke Cole
08-03-2004, 08:39 PM
If you have played the game Kyari, you would know that you can ONLY pick rhinos and rabbits, thus yes, you got it right. ;) Your turn to name a game.
Kyari
08-03-2004, 09:24 PM
I could have sworn you got to be kangaroos and dinosaurs and other things . . . oh well, my mind is porous at best.
I'm thinking of a platformer, in which you, as either a black or white kid, search for cards, in enfranchised mayhem . . . (NES)
I played this game a lot as a kid. No battery save . . . it stayed on a lot. I got it from my aunt as a christmas present. If you guys can't get it, I'll tell you where my aunt works . . . :D
Zeugma 440

Sounds like this McDonald's game... what was it's name... MC Kids ??
Bomberman Fantasy Race
I have never even heard of this game :wonder: Probably that 'living in Europe' bull again :p As for the next one, I'm thinking Zeugma got it right.
Kyari
08-04-2004, 09:53 AM
He did;very good Zeugma.
By the way, my aunt works as a manager at two of the McDonald's locations on PEI . . . that's where I got it from.
It's his go now.
Zedie9

Sounds like this McDonald's game... what was it's name... MC Kids ??
:) I've heard before that the McKids game was sort of decent, given what it was. :spin:
Hey, Zedie why are you being so secretive? I mean, I know you are here right now, but you have chosen not be displayed in the Current Users list. Wuss. And you have also disabled Private Messages. What's up with that?
Zedie9
08-04-2004, 11:10 AM

However, I'd meant to turn the messaging thingy on. :bouncy:
Hooray, turn the PM on fast so that I can harass you all day long. And why would you want to be lurking? :p Secrecy... pffffff.

I suppose so. But I'm truely wondering what made you start it in the first place :p
Zeugma 440

Stop it ! :smash: Here's my hint :
The game I think about closely follows one of the implicit rules of RPGs : village, dungeon, village, dungeon,village... (SNES)
That is rather vague. My money is on Lufia 2.
TheDragonKnight
08-04-2004, 10:35 PM
well thats pretty vague hmm but i suppose id guess.... secret of evermore, every area included its own town/s as well as at least two duengons (you naturally went back to town between duengons)
Kaze Nigai
08-04-2004, 11:00 PM
It was such a broad clue, I'd imagine it's a game that must force you back to town between battles...*can't think of anything that comes to mind though* >.O;
Kyari
08-04-2004, 11:11 PM
Geez, you must admit thatit is pretty vague . . . first thing that comes to mind for me is Earthbound.
silverDistortioN
08-04-2004, 11:19 PM
okay, everyone... from now on try to provide an obscure hint to a fairly well-known game. (rather than a vague hint to a game like captain novolin or something.)
try to give creative hints... make it riddle-like... try to make us go "duh! why didn't i think of that one before!"
things would probably be more fun if you hint on the easy side, i think. =)
at least for the first few games, maybe.
Zeugma 440
08-05-2004, 03:12 AM
Okay, one of you is really close to the correct answer. I have to admit that my hint is rather vague, so here's another one that should clear things up :
The game I think about could have been released on NES, according to its breathtaking graphics and interface
pikatsu
08-05-2004, 06:11 AM
Could? Or couldn't?
Secret of Mana?
Lufia 2?
What's that supposed to mean Zeugma. Do you mean that you don't know what console it was on, or that it's graphics were such that it might as well have been put on the NES?
Yuffie
08-05-2004, 07:10 AM
I've never heard of that game but it does sound fun. :D
EDIT!!!
My bad, I posted for an earlier post thinking I was on the last page. :p
Tales of Phantasia?
As I recall that had bucket loads of villages and dungeons. :p
One of my emulator games.
Need to play it again sometime, as I recall I didn't finish it and I can't remember it much now.
I thought Vagrant Story at first, then saw the console. :p
With that second hint, it's more than obviously Lufia and the fortress of doom.
Yuffie

Kilu> That was obvious with this hint, yup ;) Maybe the others do not know this game *shrugs*
Now it's your turn, Kilu :D
Well, here goes.
The game I'm thinking about involves a rabbit on a harley with a big gun. (SNES)

Zeugma: My apologies, I meant the game no offence. I'm very fond of it and upon further playing I can confirm there are not nearly as many dungeons and villages as I first thought. :)But I am somewhat pissed off at my emulator which decided not to save my game. :(

BUMP! Don't let this thread die, I need it to choose which games to steal! :p
One answer is close.
The game I'm thinking about involves a rabbit on a harley with a big gun. (SNES)
second hint.
The rabbit's name is Hoppy and he is a Terminator wannabe.
I know the second hint is bad, but there is nothing in this game that I could say without giving it a way immediately :p Though it's probably quite easy guess as it is now.
Mithrandir
08-08-2004, 11:43 AM
Could it be Clay Fighter 2? :nana:
All my money is on Clay Fighter 2 because I used to have this game on SNES. And Hoppy was the one that thorwed carrots.
Yes, that is correct. Clay Fighter 2: Judgment Clay. Hoppy has a serious Schwarzenegger issues :)
And now it's your turn :)
kaserdan
08-09-2004, 05:19 PM
So it was a Clay Fighter game...
Should have known it was the second one ! It's the only one I've played in the serie :shame:
The mad snowman was cool ! (The alternate version)
Bad Mr. Frosty! :) I always liked the Ickybob clay or whatever the name was. The ghost one :) It was in the firts instalment, don't remember if in the second. Anyway... MITH!

Ape Escape maybe?
Mithrandir
08-13-2004, 06:43 PM

I guess I could post a picture of the main character....

I like to revive dead threads. Then I put on ladies clothing and hang around on the docks late at night. Or is that Astrolounge who likes to do that second part?
There, Someone said something for you at my expense. Sorry for using the quote for evil, but I think it's funny.
Particularly the docks part, that way pure gold the way you didn't put it, your hilarious when your misquoted!
Somehow I get the feeling I'm going to be hevily critizized for doing this... but keep in mind all the funny things everyone could be not really saying right now!
Ok, that's enough of that. I couldn't resist, sorry in advance is I annoyed anybody.

Hmmm, I may be out of line in posting a game here due to it being silvers turn, technically, but it's been a real long time, so I'll go ahead and add a game for everybody to guess.
First Hint : It's a NES game which the main character uses a mallet

Second Hint : The main character is constantly mashing things.

Front Mission ? (well, it's not technically men but hey, there are humans inside those gears ;) )
Sorry, it's not Front Mission
Clue 3 : When your units die they scream and fly into the air before hitting the ground and fading away.

So it's pretty much like every other RTS game in general? :p
The only SNES games I've ever played are on an emulator.
The real thing is before my time....well....sorta. :D

I say the game is Cannon Fodder.
yep yep . . . . ooo I wonder how you figured it out. :emlaugh: It really was a fun game, though the screams did tend to eat at one's nerves.

Alrighty, time for yet another SNES game.
Hint Number 1 - Every character in the game is mechanical.
Hint Number 2 - The game has a western setting.
Kai, Lance, Blade, anybody else that played it at my place, let's let other people give it a go first.

Why is it that every game you choose, is one that I own? :p
Locke
08-05-2005, 03:02 PM
Because every game that I own is a kickass RPG pretty well, and everybody knows them. You've got the odd obscure ones.

I'm pretty sure its: The Great Battle V
Western setting with Gundams wearing ponchos and using revolvers. Lol
Loved this game as a kid.

Nope. It's not that at all.
Hint Number 3 - The entire game takes place over the course of a week.
Hint Number 4 - At the beginning of each day you play a bonus level where you shoot bottles repeatedly into the air until they get red hot and break or hit the ground and break.
hmmm . . . . sounds like Lone Star to me.

Nope, not quite, but I know you know the game and that name should be a clue.
It's fairly close.
woops . . . sorry I meant Tinstar . . . meh all those ol' western names sound alike I suppose.
ok this may be a little too easy but seeing as how it is such a good game I will post the clues anyways.
CLUE 1 : Action RPG for snes
CLUE 2 : The midget mallet is an item in the game
Locke

I knew that was way too easy . . . . . . that and the midget mallet kind of gave it away. :D
Locke

Yeah, I was giving it time. I knew that one as soon as I saw midgit mallet. Lance, you should be ashamed of throwing that out so quickly :shame:

Clue #3: This is the 3rd game in a popular Japanese series, the second of which was a very popular SNES game

Figured I'd hit you back for guessing Kai's way to fast. I don't have a game ready right now, so if somebody wants to jump in with one, feel free. I open the floor (but not to Lance or Kai, lets give somebody else a shot at posting a game)

Clue #1 - This is a little known (as far as I can tell) strategy game for the SNES.
Clue #2 - It is part of a series by NCS, originating on the Genesis.
