Yep. I think bjp4444 got it right there. I also think that it is all about the Japanese movie Ringu that Amaricans have made their own versions. The newest one here in Finland is Ring 2.

A lot of the japanese horror movies are based on actual legends and hauntings. Like the kwidans and curses left on people by buddah for killing siblings and suicides. Its very unique. And very scarry. Some of those legends scare the sh*** out of me because I feel im gonna end up like them.
Like the ring and the well. I stay far away from well's.

I saw a DVD once for Ringu. I think it was the dubbed version of the original japanese movie. Any one know for sure?

I'm not sure but The grudge is a kind of a movie that could also be from Japan. It reminds me of The ring. Lots of that kind of movies have been released lately. Those scary looking children are in now I think.
It is from Japan originally. And the US version is directed by the same japanese guy who did the original as well. Or that's what I remember reading somewhere anyway.

Hideo Nakata directed the Ring, Ring 2 (Jap) and has directed the Ring 2 (US). He has also diected Dark Water (Jap) and Chaos.
