WHY DID I BOTHER?
------------------------------
It is important to understand that in alot of cases music to a particular game (that I like) does not exist on CD i.e. it has never been officially released. People often just go for inferior sound formats such as PSF (playstation Music Format) or record the music themselves using crap soundcards, poor quality cables, bad software or analog connections in cases like the Playstation and PS2 where optical cable recording is an option using the PS2 optical output.
I was absolutely sick and tired of finding crap recordings, crap rips, crap encodings and then I decided that I would sort out the mess. What has followed is in many cases the best quality recordings/rips/encodings of rare game music anywhere on the net.
First I will go through the games that I have DONE OR WILL BE DONE SHORTLY and why I decided to record them etc. If you know of a released CD that I do not know about please correct me
Also I did this to give back to rpgamers what it has given me and many others thanks locke cole:)
I have a largish amount of VGM (10-11 GB) that I did not rip etc, mainly from RPGamer mirrors (though there are more and I tried my best to keep only good quality rips). A special thankyou mainly to Bamatone/Reth/Mithrandir and the rest. THANKS
-------------------------
Soulblade (Playstation): Otherwise known as Soul Edge has an officially released CD of the Khan Super Session but it is not complete. Arcade and arrange mode are not released either which is a pity.
EDIT: Arcade was released but MAYBE incomplete
RELEASED
Sonic 1 (Master System): nobody apparently knows who actually composed the damn tunes let alone there being a released CD. Looks like Masato Nakamura composed and Koji Kondo arranged.
ON ITS WAY
Sonic 2 (Master System): No released CD, I still do not know who composed.
ON ITS WAY
Sonic 1 (Megadrive/Genesis): Released CD was pathetic, the Music was speeded up and it ruined the entire OST) RELEASED
Sonic 2 (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD ? RELEASED
Sonic 2 (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD ?
RELEASED
Sonic 3 (Megadrive/Genesis): No Released CD ?
RELEASED
Sonic and Knuckles (Megadrive/Genesis): OST not complete
RELEASED
Sonic 3D (Megadrive/Genesis): A horrible Sega Saturn version was released but this great music soundtrack was sadly not ON HOLD
Greendog (Megadrive/Genesis): I recorded my favourite ones only. No released CD
RELEASED
Final Fantasy X (Playstation): Officially released CD was superior in quality to the actual output of the PS2 but 3 musics were for some reason left out of the OST, so here they are. Includes the nice tune 'Nostalgia'#
RELEASED
Metal Gear Solid 2 (Playstation 2): You may wonder why the heck this one is here after 3 officially released CD's that covered all the musics perfectly? The thing is.....they didn't. The released CD's of the music composed by Nobino (MGS2: The Other side and MGS2 Substance Ultimate Sorter) are wrong and alot is missing too. The released CD's are still good but if you want the accurate sound and all them other tunes that are left out including the Olga Boss battle music, then this is for you. ON ITS WAY
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (Playstation 2): No released CD, I have no idea why substance is used in the title of MGS2 Substance Ultimate Sorter as this CD is basically a remix of 'The Other Side'. Also note, people keep thinking that this CD and 'The other side' are accurate to the actual PS2 music. THEY ARE NOT and they are lacking. Bottom line, download and tell me what you think. ON ITS WAY
Super Mario Brothers 2 (NES): No released CD. The game was not really supposed to be a mario game but the soundtrack is good and was Koji Kondo ON ITS WAY
Street Fighter 2 (SNES): Lots of music out there on the net with Street Fighter as the title, sadly they are the crap versions like Alpha. This soundtrack is a timeless classic. I did not record the ending musics, just the BGM. ON ITS WAY
Super Mario Land - Main Theme(Gameboy): Well....this is a nice tune I just had to have it. ON ITS WAY
Road Rash II - Main Theme(Megadrive): An ok tune....maybe I should have done the whole OSV

* Recorded or ripped from actual console Not emulator
** Ripped from actual game disc
*** Output is from an emulator and as such will not represent accurate sound (will be close to).
Really differences in sound can only be detected when the output is from an emulator of the
16 bit kind (i.e. megadrive/Genesis) and not the 8-bit kind (i.e. NES). This is because music
becomes more detailed at 16-bit and the later consoles (16 -bit and above) were far
superior to the earlier (8-bit)
