WHY DID I BOTHER?
------------------------------

It is important to understand that in alot of cases music to a particular game (that I like) does not exist on CD i.e. it has never been officially released. People often just go for inferior sound formats such as PSF (playstation Music Format) or record the music themselves using crap soundcards, poor quality cables, bad software or analog connections in cases like the Playstation and PS2 where optical cable recording is an option using the PS2 optical output.

I was absolutely sick and tired of finding crap recordings, crap rips, crap encodings and then I decided that I would sort out the mess. What has followed is in many cases the best quality recordings/rips/encodings of rare game music anywhere on the net.

First I will go through the games that I have DONE OR WILL BE DONE SHORTLY and why I decided to record them etc. If you know of a released CD that I do not know about please correct me

Also I did this to give back to rpgamers what it has given me and many others thanks locke cole:)

I have a largish amount of VGM (10-11 GB) that I did not rip etc, mainly from RPGamer mirrors (though there are more and I tried my best to keep only good quality rips). A special thankyou mainly to Bamatone/Reth/Mithrandir and the rest. THANKS

-------------------------

Soulblade (Playstation): Otherwise known as Soul Edge has an officially released CD of the Khan Super Session but it is not complete. Arcade and arrange mode are not released either which is a pity.
EDIT: Arcade was released but MAYBE incomplete
RELEASED

Sonic 1 (Master System): nobody apparently knows who actually composed the damn tunes let alone there being a released CD. Looks like Masato Nakamura composed and Koji Kondo arranged.
ON ITS WAY

Sonic 2 (Master System): No released CD, I still do not know who composed.
ON ITS WAY

Sonic 1 (Megadrive/Genesis): Released CD was pathetic, the Music was speeded up and it ruined the entire OST) RELEASED

Sonic 2 (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD ? RELEASED

Sonic 2 (Megadrive/Genesis): No released CD ?
RELEASED

Sonic 3 (Megadrive/Genesis): No Released CD ?
RELEASED

Sonic and Knuckles (Megadrive/Genesis): OST not complete
RELEASED

Sonic 3D (Megadrive/Genesis): A horrible Sega Saturn version was released but this great music soundtrack was sadly not ON HOLD

Greendog (Megadrive/Genesis): I recorded my favourite ones only. No released CD
RELEASED

Final Fantasy X (Playstation): Officially released CD was superior in quality to the actual output of the PS2 but 3 musics were for some reason left out of the OST, so here they are. Includes the nice tune 'Nostalgia'#
RELEASED

Metal Gear Solid 2 (Playstation 2): You may wonder why the heck this one is here after 3 officially released CD's that covered all the musics perfectly? The thing is.....they didn't. The released CD's of the music composed by Nobino (MGS2: The Other side and MGS2 Substance Ultimate Sorter) are wrong and alot is missing too. The released CD's are still good but if you want the accurate sound and all them other tunes that are left out including the Olga Boss battle music, then this is for you. ON ITS WAY

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (Playstation 2): No released CD, I have no idea why substance is used in the title of MGS2 Substance Ultimate Sorter as this CD is basically a remix of 'The Other Side'. Also note, people keep thinking that this CD and 'The other side' are accurate to the actual PS2 music. THEY ARE NOT and they are lacking. Bottom line, download and tell me what you think. ON ITS WAY

Super Mario Brothers 2 (NES): No released CD. The game was not really supposed to be a mario game but the soundtrack is good and was Koji Kondo ON ITS WAY

Street Fighter 2 (SNES): Lots of music out there on the net with Street Fighter as the title, sadly they are the crap versions like Alpha. This soundtrack is a timeless classic. I did not record the ending musics, just the BGM. ON ITS WAY

Super Mario Land - Main Theme(Gameboy): Well....this is a nice tune I just had to have it. ON ITS WAY

Road Rash II - Main Theme(Megadrive): An ok tune....maybe I should have done the whole OSV
RELEASED

Really differences in sound can only be detected when the output is from an emulator of the

becomes more detailed at 16-bit and the later consoles (16 -bit and above) were far

Hello there :)

Here's what i can add to this subject:

About Soul Blade (Soul Edge), you say there's no Arcade Mode Soundtrack, that's wrong!
You forgot the Official Soundtrack Soul Edge Arcade Edition Original Soundtrack "Super Battle Sound Attack".
Catalogue Number MRCA-20099
Publisher Media REMORASU
First Printing September 20, 1996.
Maybe that's a soundtrack for the Arcade Game and not the arcade mode, but if i remember well, the music is the same.

You'r Talking about a Sonic The Edgehog 1 Genesis Official CD ?
Could you mention the catalog number of this one? Everything you find on the net are just rips.
There are Tons of Remix/Arrange CDs of the Sonic Series.. (sonic remix, sonic boom, they call me sonic, king of the rings.....)
But i think the only official CD that contains Original music from the sonic serie is the Sonic The Hedgehog 10th Anniversary CD.
Can anyone confirm this?

I confirm about the Super Mario Bros. 2, there's plenty of CDs for the 1, 3.. but nothing for the 2?

Since i never played the Super Nintendo (SNES) version of street fighter 2 can anyone tell me if the musics were different from the arcade version ?
There's lot of officials cds for the original arcade music of this game, and some have a very good sound quality.

You are in need of the Streets of Rage CD ? Which one ? There are 3 officials CDs (well, 4 in fact since there are 2 for the SoR 2), one for each SoR.

Later!

daniel
03-19-2005, 01:31 PM
Thanks for your response

I believe the arcade CD was also incomplete I am not sure, there is certainly no Arrange version and Ending music CD versions. I need Streets of Rage 1 and 2 official versions if they exist.

Sonic 10th aniversarry unfortunately does not have all the music;)

The music of the original Street Fighter 2 (and turbo) was the best...classic and no release CD from what I can see, so I will use Zsnes to retrieve it.

I may be wrong about Sonic 1 official CD, I remember well however a website that hosted a CD version. I will look for it. In any case my recording of it is sufficient and accurate to the original output. Emulator output with megadrive or GYM's are not good enough yet....music does not have:

Enough Bass
The correct (and I really do mean perfect) output
lots of other things....plus most sound way too high pitched or even tinny

daniel

ADDED MORE ALBUMS TO MY WANTED LIST :)

In the future I may release my entire "normal" music collection, mainly classic bands of the 70's and 80's. 4200 files 23 GB :) in all

'War of the Worlds' is a brilliant album, but which version is it? There are two versions, one is the full story whilst the second is just the music from the first.

daniel
03-21-2005, 04:36 AM
It's the one that has the songs like 'Forever Autumn', 'Thunderchild' etc...its the musical one with the story being told inbetween.

tanisthalon
03-21-2005, 05:46 AM
Ah so I assume its the better one then with the story :). I had it on LP when I was a young lad. Had a great book with it, but alas it went with the memories I have of it.

* I am currently d/l the classic 'War of the Worlds'. Do you by chance have the special edition of 'Donnie Darko' OST?

No problem Darkblack;) I like all of them, this is in my opinion ennio's best score and the greatest Spaghetti western in existence. The ending was one of the greatest film endings of all time too. Damn good in every sense.

Funny you should say that, FFX OST was on my bordering line for bitrate but the VBR is not bad in this case and I left it after a few listening tests. The FFX piano collection however is on my need to update list. It is under 192 kbit/sec

The infamously famous Halloween theme is by him :)

I have nothing against the quality of MPC (i have only heard that it is good. lossless?) I think it is actually supposed to be one of the best (better than mp3). I know OGG is the best because its also open sourced. still MP3 is more common, i cannot use other formats in my dvd player etc so I stick with mp3. Mp4 is very good too but the above is why i cannot accept either:)

Someone once gave me a website that had done listening and scientific research into which of the main ones was more accurate at a given bitrate.

Results as I remember them were (where 1 is the best)

1. OGG
2. MP4/AAC
3. MP3
4. WMA

I willl verify that

Nah, it wasn't from your server, Daniel. My current FF7 OST was retrieved from elsewhere, and the files were all "bleh", so i'm getting the FF7 OST off you now. :P

daniel, i'm having a problem. I'm managing to connect to your FTP just fine, but when I click into the folder "OTHER RELEASES", the directory for it won't show up.

Is this just a problem with me, or did you block the folder or something?

Edit: After attempting it a third time, I managed to get into the folder. If you fixed the problem just now, thanks. :P

daniel

No i did not.....perhaps it is my server. Many things could have happened I dunno, if it happens again let me know.

The Creation by Haydn is released in Opera Folder. If you know music you will download both albus that are there.

Speed should pick up because my no.1 leecher is being given his own account with restricted speed (hes greyfox) to give other ppl a chance.

Weird thing is you are not exceeding 11 KBytes/sec even when you are on your own?

well i was managing 20 KBytes/sec before but it only lasted very briefly (about 45min or so), then it went back to about 10 kb/s.

I was on about sobou. Yours is working fine...but now since grey fox was sent to his own private account with 5KB/s speed (without him knowing) everything seems to be ok.

Yeah, speed picked up major-style, daniel. I went from around 10kb/s or less to averaging 17kb/s.

Ran into a problem trying to get sheet music from FF6.. "Coin Song" downloaded fine, as did Melodies of Life from FF9. But when I tried to get Decisive Battle, Spinach Rag, and Celes from FF6, I get the following error for each file:

[R] RETR celes01.jpg
[R] 550 Cannot RTR. No permission.
[R] Transfer Failed!

Seems to only give these for certain directories.
