Well, if you accept evolution (which I don't, but I strangely voted in favor of it here - can I take my vote back?) then the egg came first, laid by the precursor to the chicken, some dinosaur-type animal-bird.

Rabite obviously came first. This is even recorded in numerous records.
Ever heard of the line, "In the beginning, there was the Rabite......."?

the chicken would have to come first because the egg wouldn't be able to hatch without a chicken sitting on it.
and by chicken i mean, of course, "thing that sits on eggs."

Egg produceing is from having multiple offspring. Eggs are made because the organism cannot continue to nourish the growing developing embryo's in its own body. If it did it would die from lack of food or the offspring would burst through its womb. Thats why eggs are mainly nutritious fat to feed the embryo. If the egg layer were to only have one or 2 offspring each time then produceing a egg may be changed to more developed live young. Through change and evolution.
One of the signs Of a successful organism is when the offspring are born they are able to feed themselves and only need protection. Human children are born without a egg because they're born 1 or 2 and are already large and developed enough to live outside but they still need warmth and constant breast feeding.
I can see as humans become more dominant over nature gestation will be shorter. Mabey 4 months. And the baby will not need milk but solid food.
Or humans will have more young say mabey 10 or 15 and start to develop soft shell eggs like reptiles and fish. I can even see the shells becoming opaque or clear. Ewwww.
Thats how I heard it. hehe,I said breast. Im sleepy. But afraid to sleep. Nightmares were very bad this week.

The chicken came first. I do not believe in the theory of evolution. Every creature is born in pairs in this world and the chicken is one of them. The Chicken could have 'chicks' in the first place, instead of an egg. So the egg has to step down.

well by looking at the way humans are here, that could possibly be the same on how chickens are here. we didnt come from eggs and we are still here, and this probably goes for most other organisms.
i vote chickenhttp://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

but rabite's rule!!!! i'd have voted for nu, because "All life starts with a Nu and ends with a Nu but since nu wasn't an option, a rabite is 2nd best for me XD.....
Rabites are predecessors of every living being on earth. So obviously they came first. And rabites are soo good at hatching as well.

Has anyone done the experiment and carefully crack a fertilized bird egg in a special container and watch it continue to grow? I use to read about that stuff all the time in school and on the web but now I cant find nothing on the web about it. Also when its developing you can separate carefully and isolate some parts. Some of the parts are said to somehow continue living. And one article I read said if given the proper nourishment they can live for decades.
Whats a rabite?
It cant be jewish. Is it?

Seen a comic that explained this with a simple picture.
A chicken and an egg, in bed, the egg is smoking a cigarette. ;)
If you don't get it you're too young, or too innocent. :p

i believe in the fact of evolution ( the pope even admited to it come on people its not a theroy anymore so much evedence = fact) and so the egg was first and even if you don't believe in it i think its more likly god made an egg first rather then poof a chicken just apearing, that how ( when i was still a churchy guy) saw it a world full of eggs and small baby's

you're all supposing the chicken-egg creation-gene pre-existed in previous animals. (everyone seems to imply that the chickens must meet certain characteristics to be considered a chicken [as opposed to a chicken ancestor], so it's only fair to apply the same standard to the egg. let it be specifically a chicken egg and not some generic egg that could have been laid by a dinosaur... otherwise there's little point in pondering the question.)
for simplicity's sake, i'm going to refer to the pre-chicken ancestor as "a dinosaur." anyway, a dinosaur could very well have laid a dinosaur egg that hatched into a chicken. it's likely that an adult's genetics have an effect on the characteristics of an egg. specifically, chemical regulation genes in the dinosaur would cause the egg to come out more dinosaur-like rather than chicken-like.
i hope i obfuscated things enough. =)

it made perfect sence to me :) mind you its not like a poof scales to feathers thing it takes millions of years for it to happen , its still happening in snakes some are hatched with hip bones. Featherd reptile fossiles have been found so we know what eh basic pattern was i still would like to been there to see the killer chicken with sharp teath and claws...

What you have to do is ask some one quickly and see waht the answer.
Egg = Evoultioniouist
Chicken = Creationist

well if thats true i must be a Creationisthttp://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. there used to be killer chickens?, cool i wish i could have seen them (although they wouldnt look like the modern day chicken).
that would be a good idea for a movie, it could be called "Return of the Killer Chickens".
i just wonder how a huge ball of magma floating around space eventually turned into this remarkable planetoid. I may begin a thread on the Universe etc, as it is one of my favourite subjects, i know very lots about space, ie, nebulas, galaxies, light speed, black holes, supernova's etc.

lol you can't be a Creationist if you believe in toher galaxies and such at least not as hard core as the once around here then, but i have been pondering, IF by the meaning of chicken or egg you mean not what came first in the galaxy but what exested first in its presant state, if that is so then i must say chicken, because only achicken can lay a chicken egg, how ever if you mean eggs in general then egg where around long long befor
