How to set your own ftp server using GuildFTP.By:Marona

Guild ftp may seem complicated to set up first, but is actually easy if you follow step by step. This is near advanced to set up a server. If you're that kind of person...well...you'll like it...

First as always, lets start on users.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/relmychan/guildtutorial1.jpg

Right click on the annonymous user and delete. This will prevent annonymous connections. Now let's create our own user...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/relmychan/guildtutorial2.jpg

Right click then add user.Enter the info(user, pass)and click ok.IGNORE ADVANCED.Now time for the complicated part...the account options to make the account and server stable...

The Max connections of account should be what your upload speed can handle(click on number to change).Max ip connections should be 1!The Inactivity timeout should be recommended to be 5 minutes.

edit:
-Soft download and upload speed are very useful options. It prevents your bandwidth from being saturated by the activity of your FTP.Keep in mind that download means the users are downloading from you;YOU ARE UPLOADING!Set the limit with your maximum upload speed in mind.

The browsing timeout is just the timeout when the account isn't browsing. The upload and download speed should be default.Ignore the soft part.

Port should be set to the port you have selected.YOU MUST ENABLE YOUR ACCOUNT OR IT WON'T WORK AT ALL!Allow hammering should be disabled.Max connections is your choice.

It's time to set your path for downloads...select path near options. And then right click, edit on the ftproot path.

Select your path that you want. The options for the download account or read, list, and append.NO DELETE!!!For upload, follow the same procedure except this time, use write, list, create, and append.

edit:
-Never try to delete a path with the DEL button. It will delete the current user.Instead, use right click+delete path instead.

Now for your server options...this will be confusing so listen carefully!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/relmychan/guildtutorial5.jpg

Click on the button at the top circled. These options can be selected. But the most important one is the case sensitive password...

Now click on the server button...

The ftp server name should be what you have registered at dyndns.org.If you want, you can put your email as well. The boxes selected can be used also...

Now for the Advanced settings...

The Port range should be what you have seen before editting your ports. For real ip address,ENTER YOUR REGULAR IP ADDRESS.

edit:
-The "Allow FXP/Bounce attack"seem a bit stupid, but has to be checked.Since many people commonly use FXP instead of FTP.

Finally onto the auto ban...

These should be selected. On hack, recommended to be auto kick and ban.

Congradulations! You have set up your own server using GuildFTP!!!

(Note:I tried to make it simple as I could...for those GuildFTP experts,if i made any errors, please post!)

Several things to add to your excellent tutorial :

- The "allow FXP / bounce attack" option may sound a bit stupid ("why the hell am I telling it to allow attacks ?") but has to be checked, since many people seem to be using FXP to access FTPs.

- Soft download & upload speed limiters are very useful options. It prevents your bandwidth from being saturated by the activity of your FTP. Just keep in mind that "download" means that users download from you -> you are uploading ! Set the limit with your maximum upload speed in mind ;)

- Never try to delete a path with the DEL button, it will delete the current user :D use right-click + 'delete path" instead.

You definitely should edit these tutorials to PDF, Marona. They will be really useful on the Game Music page of RPGN :spin:
