Hello all,
I play this game quite often, so I thought I'd start a topic about it and see if anyone else plays. Enemy Territory is a FREE stand-alone multiplayer online FPS / Strategy game. It was intended to be a retail game, but in late development, was released free of charge.
The game plants you as a soldier, with set objectives for both teams (Axis and Allied) for each map. Maps range from all kinds of situations, attacking an Axis fuel dump, stealing gold from a bank, blowing up anti-tank guns, stopping production on V2 rockets, and more. The game is a lot of fun.
There are 5 playable classes. Soldier, Medic, Field Ops, Engineer and Covert Ops. Each class has its own abilities and advantages. Soldier gets the largest range of heavy weapons. Medics can revive fallen teammates, heal teammates and themselves. Field Ops can call in artillery and airstrikes, as well as distribute ammo to the team. Engineers are the key to most objectives, fixing and destroying obsticles. Covert Ops can disguise in enemy clothing, spot landmines, and open team doors for the other team.
Its quite a lot of fun. :) Does anyone else play?
EDIT by Kilu:
These days we are usually playing at live.magicite.net which is the RPGN homebase as far as ET goes. It runs on ETPub/Shrubbot combination. Join us in IRC to find out if we are playing! If you are interested, the game can be found in various game related sites, like gamespot, filefront etc etc. You will need the newest version (2.60) if you plan to play with us.

it doesn't run well on my laptop... i think i need double my onboard video memory.
...and i do believe my little brother said it crashes when we try to put it on the desktop.
oh well, maybe i'll play again after i stop by for a visit. =)

We have 4 PCs capable of playing ET here at the apartment, and TDK can bring his over for 5. Mass LAN party goodness :p
It requires a 3D video card with minimum 32MB video memory (64 highly recommended). I've had some cards just not like it either, but I find my GeForce4 MX440 runs great with it.

Err, 16 megs vid ram.. That's not bad.. But not great either.
You can run it?
I like being Covert or Machine-gunner soldier
Haven't played, but I may try it out now that I have a bit better computer at hand :) Hooray. Maybe even with decent graphics, though my g-card is not that great, it has 64mb :)

...i can run it, it just goes at about 5 fps. (i don't quite remember exactly, maybe it was 10.)
it's fast enough to play, but not fast enough to play skillfully. =)

:wonder: I don't think I've played it... but if it's free I might try it out sometime. Maybe you should set things up to have some sort of RPGN tourney. ;)
hehe. tournament would kick ass, as everyone would kick my ass :p
I downloaded it yesterday, haven't installed it yet though. And won't be doing it just yet anyway, I'm of to school in just a bit. Probably will take a look at it later today.
On a related note, I'm assuming that controls can be changed? What kind of controls you guys use. WSAD as movement keys and mouse as weapons I assume, but the rest? Jump, weapon change keys, duck... and whatever other stuff you can do.

Recruiting here is a very bad idea TDK, as I was hoping if enough of our goons play, we could start up an RPGN guild or something. I might even be able to arrange a dedicated server for us to play on. Then we could practice together, challenge other guilds, and just have lots of fun. Tournaments are definately a good idea, although I have a heck of an advantage over newcomers, knowing the maps and the game back and forth. :p
As for the controls, movement is AWSD, there is a lean left and lean right (for peeking around corners), jump is SPACE by default. There are stat screens which you can configure, etc. I have my primary fire button set to MOUSE1, and secondary set to MOUSE2. Most people set the gun rotation to mouse wheel if you have one. By default, the weapons are changed using 1234567. 1 = knife, 2 = pistol, 3 = primary weapon, 4 = grenades, 5, 6, 7 = class-specific toys. Holding down B uses the binoculars if you are atleast level1 in your battle sense skill. V is used for issuing voice commands to the game/team. TAB to see scores/team lists. Stuff like that. Its a full fledged game, everything is configurable.

i change my fps controls so my weird little hand can handle it (more easily)...
i make it so you only use one finger to either jump/duck or strafe. that way you don't waste a finger since you can't go in two opposite directions at the same time. =)
Well yeah, obviously everything is configurable, but as I have so little experience in fps games (i'm a consolekid :p ) I haven't had time to experiment with different controls. For example, in Half-life, the default key for duck is CTRL, and my pinky doesn't work so well that I could push it :) So I was kinda hoping some poinsters :)
And damn, I don't have a wheelmouse :p It would be so much easier with that to change weapons.

The mouse wheel is also great for zooming in and out your sniper scopes and binoculars. However, I never use that feature. There are keyboard shortcuts for everything. Plus, being able to jump from primary (3) to dynamite (6) instantly in battle is much easier on the KB then a wheel, you can end up going right past it.
Can I not practise in it? I mean, I'd hate to jump in on some online game without any practise at all. Or do I need to get the actual game for practise :(
And Jari want's to know if there is a support for talking with team players, as in with mic.

yes, you have to download the game for practice (unless you count playing half life as practice), and yes, it lets you chat over the mic.
and i'm pretty sure it's multiplayer only, so your practice would mainly consist of wandering around the maps and shooting inanimate objects. (which i do in games when i haven't played for a while. it helps a whole lot, oddly enough.)

I'll get it and try it out. I think it'd be great to have a dedicated server. Find out how many people will play it, first.
Before I jump into online games, is there anyway I can just 'wander around and shoot inanimate objects'? Because I have no idea. Maybe if I host a game, just for me? :p I also need to config the graph settings, right now I have no idea what kind of settings I sould use.
So, is there a way for me to play alone in this multiplayer game :)

host your own game and make it private, i presume.

:D If push comes to shove, you can always set it up for two-player and practice on Jari.

I have been practising on rtcw for a bit now. I'm still running towards walls :) What can I say, I'm a console kid :p But I'm slowly getting hang of it.

It does take time to get use to, but it can be loads of fun when playing with people you know. Its so much more fun blowing a friend to bits for some reason :D
So, I played Soldier of Fortune 2 multiplayer demo today for a bit. And it reminded me of this. I know you (and everyone else for that matter) have been more or less busy with other stuff and the forums being down and all... Anyway, are you still planning on setting up a server for this?
Because it would be super duper cool :shades:

I'm ready to join if there's a server. I play during lunch time at work. After two months of playing I still suck at this game....shooting isn'T my thing. But still I like being the engineer, field ops or covert ops.
I suggest we create a server for this.
We have been playing occasionally, Locke Cole has been hosting the games mostly. If you lurk in the chat, you will probably catch us next time when we are going to play. :D We talk about it usually in #pizzacats , not #RPGN.

Cool.
I think he should post an annoucement somewhere on the boards also though.
I would play if you guys start a server after 6 p.m EST though.
We *could* make a sticky somewhere, which *could* be updated everytime a game is starting. The only problem is that we would have to remember to always update it. And I'm not sure if Locke would want his IP in a sticky forum topic.
If we would make it a general announcement that 'ET game in progress, join the chat for details' but I don't know if it's worth the trouble, mainly because there isn't exactly a lot of ET players in the forums that aren't already in the chat. Most of the players come directly from the same apartment as Locke.
Soooo, even if we make an announcement thread, in the meantime it's easier just to lurk in mirc to catch a game. We played yesterday for example.
Don't know about the time though, it's usually around 12am my time, gmt2, but I'm just too lazy to convert t EST. :p
I thought I'd update this thread a bit. Locke setupped a dedicated server sometime ago for us to play in. It's located at live.magicite.net, though it hasn't been always online lately due to various reasons. It runs on Etpub/srubbot combination.
Come join us in irc to see if we are playing. If, for example, you see me with [ET] at the end of my nick, with 99% certainty I'm at the RPGN server. It's always more fun to own people you know than some random noobs. It also seems that I get always stuck with the noobs.

I still think i would prefer halohttp://forums.rpgamers.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
ET is legally free, unlike Halo. :p
Also, the great thing about ET is that there is more than just fragging, the tactics aspect gives it an interesting twist, in my opinion.

Do you guys still play?
Once I get my new computer I'll probably be able to join you for a couple of games. Should be less laggy than when I played last time. Since also, I upgraded my internet connection.
Well, we haven't played much lately, probably one game during the whole summer. But who knows, it may happen. I think Locke has been upgrading his computers as well during the summer, so it may be that we have new server as well next time we play. But this is all just speculation.
