How to set your own ftp server using WinFTP.By:Marona

For more information on setting your ftp server, please check the other tutorial.

WinFTP server is a trial version for up to 30 days.If you are considering buying it,then choose it.If not...well...it just might not open. You may get it at www.wftpserver.com

First, let us create our user. When opening the software, look on your left. You should see a user account.(NOT ACCOUNT WIZARD)

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wintutorial1.JPG

Click on the add button to your right to add your account. After its created, set your password on the bottom. To add directory, you can right click then add on the white box(habit)or just click on the button 'add...'.

The options to be setted for your folder are...

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wtutorial2.JPG

The options for your download account are read, append, and list.DO NOT SELECT RENAME OR DELETE!Then select your directory.

If you have an upload account...

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wtutorial3.JPG

As you can see,the options selected are write, append, list, and make.

You're done with that. Now look on your left and select limit.

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wtutorial4.JPG

The upload and download limit should be default with 0.It is recommended to set the max users your upload speed can handle. Also recommended for ip connections to be set to 1.

DO NOT SELECT 'user can change his/her pass'!

Now we are done with the account options.Exit that then click on 'Tools' then 'options'.

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wtutorial5.JPG

The max users means for the overall amount of users to connect to server.(includes upload and download accounts. The connection timeout is recommended to be 300 seconds. And then put your port number.

Just ignore the windows thing :)

NO MULTIPLE INSTANCE!!!

Now click on passive mode on your left.

http://www.boomspeed.com/reln/wtutorial6.JPG

Insert your dynamic ip you have registered at dyndns.org .And for your passive port range, this should be seen first before you have editted your ports.

You're done! You have just set up your ftp server with Winftp!Congradulations!!!

ok here's what I did in respect of my dynamic IP, I wen to

www.no-ip.com

register when you do all the process of register, when you appear in the register user area, you will see this options

*HOST/REDIRECTS (CHOOSE THIS ONE)
*Plus Managed DNS
*Domain Registration
*Mail
*Monitoring
*Squared
*Your Account
*Renew / Activate

Then the suboption add

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/eViL_bAz/HOSTING.jpg

You will fill he option as in the picture ( of course some fields as host name as you want )

after that just create host, that will be the first part,

second do you have a router, firewall?

just tell me and I can help it with that

OK no problem, where are you from?

well in the meantime:

1st Is only one computer?
2nd if it is only one computer then must be the firewall
3rd in the secuity center in the windows firewall window there are options to allow some programs, well you have to allow the acces to the ftp client
and it should work......

wait a moment I forgot something in the host making, you have to dl the no-ip client, this is to make it possible to refresh your hostname everyday, (this is cuz as you have yoour dynamic Ip you must refresh at least everyday your no-ip hostname)

if you still have problems just post it

including antivirus firewall...
Leave your software firewall on, disable the windows xp sp2 firewall completely. And then allow the ftp server to access the internet, as well as act as a server.

If firewall isn't the culprit, I have no idea what you could try. No experience on hubs.

OK, let's treat the first problem first : does no-ip.com Dynamic Ip Updater (DUC) works when you run it on CPU 3 ?

If so, what IP does it display at the beginning of the log ?
