View Full Version : Best games of 2004
I won't be asking top 10 or anything like that. Just the best games. Whether it's one or two or more. What were the new games that you enjoyed the most on the year 2004? Also note that release dates vary, so even if something was not released where you live (read: Europe :D ) doesn't mean that someone else had not played it on 2004. And vice verca sort of. Some of the games that were released in Europe in the beginning of the year were probably released in Us and Japan on 2003. So as long as you don't go saying that 10 year old game was best new game of 2004, everythings cool.
As for my best game of the year...
Beyond Good & Evil. One of the games I have ever played. Simply brilliant. Interesting story, tight gameplay, superior music, awesome graphics, beautiful landscapes and good voice cast. What more does anyone need from a game :D
Havent played anything plattform related in 2004. Actually, 2004 was my Ragnarök online chapter. Played RO an entire year (euRO and later pserver, cause I wanted to play with more godly equip and also wanted to view how far this game can go). Since there are updates all the time for mmorpg's, its possible to say that it was also released in 2004. The new advanced classes in RO, for example. They've changed the game a lot.
About RO... hmmm... I was so stupid. Well, I already said that it was my first mmorpg. It took me in its ban. I even started to have an online relation with another character, for a short time.. and I loved the pixels. Its so strange. Well, I stopped playing RO, because it is poison. People get suck in this world and forget about reality. Many problems happen because of it..
Actually, I havent lost so much.. but some people I know lost their jobs and future goals because of ragnarok online.. they gave everything to escape reality... I hate this game and I hate what a drug it can be... the only thing I still love is ragnarök online's music...
Since I'm back to reality I restarted where I stopped. retro-gaming, at the moment.

YAY! Another game to look forward to! I got this for Christmas, too (just like the book Neverwhere). I had read great reviews for it, and some places I saw even named it the sleeper hit (or cult hit) for the year.
Anyway, I'd name Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando as my game of 2004 (even though it was released at the end of 2003...I just didn't play it until 2004). I was so addicted to that game for a while. It took me 60+ hours to find everything and to upgrade my weapons. And I never got tired of blowing things up.
Conversely, R&C: Up Your Arsenal WAS released in 2004, but I didn't get to play it until 2005 started. And I loved that one even more. Only took me half the time to beat and find everything, though.
So, I guess it's a matter of semantics as to which one is my favorite of 2004...

You're right kilu. Of all the games I played for 2004 the one that sticks the most in my brain is Beyond Good and Evil. The scenery was strange and good. The story unusual. Love the characters. The only problem for me was the music.
Have'nt completed it yet, almost at end. Will have to one day. Such a bad habit.

i won't get into snake eater, but gta: sa is an obvious pick. i'm not sure if i played anything else that actually came out in 2004. although i want to give dark cloud II (from 2003) a very honorable mention, since iplayed a lot of it in both 2003 and 2004. sorry, i broke the rules, but i had to. evil clowns and fishing as a mini-game? priceless.

For me I would have to say Half Life 2 , man that game was awsome and the ending , smart ass way to end it if you ask me ...also the whole package was top notch - music, graphics, Gameplay, atmosphere need i say more =D.
I wish i could say Tales of symphonia was the best of 2004 but being here in Australia the only way you get such games as those is if you spend hundreds getting them from the states or by downloading them *sighs*.
Australia must have fallen off the distribution map!

Is Soul Caliber 2 an 04 release?

the soul calibur 2 arcade version was released in 2002. all the other ones came out in 2003. so i guess it kinda missed our prestigious awards here.
the 2004 release i played was katamari damacy. i doubt i would place that far above par.
