OK ppl this is a thread that maybe dont have so much audience but anyway I will put it in to see how it works hehehehe, Thanks to Tanis for the Idea, ok here are the RULES:
1.- EACH person will post "HIS" best 10 best albums, no more of 10 can be less but no more.
2.-ONLY 1 POST with ALBUMS you can post about what you think of the others TOP 10 list but if you already post your list and you forget to put one entry in your list, its unfortunelly OUT of the TOP 10.
3.- At some rate I will post that the contest its over so no other post will recived for the ALL TOP 10.
Ok hope this TOP 10 works so plz send your Top 10 and enjoy hehehehehttp://rpgamers.info/images/smilies/dance.gif
Just a question : can we post "arranged" album ? (Suikoden Celtic Collection for example ^^)

01-31-2005, 02:47 PM
yup thats why I put "VGM ALBUMS" I was about to put it "VGM ALBUMS OST" but everyone will post only Original Soundtracks so go ahead all the vgm albums arranged, OST, OSV, and all hehehe
Thats pretty hard. A top 100 would be easier, even if it would be more to write. Well, heres mine:
01 - Final Fantasy VII Original Sound Track
02 - Valkyrie Profile Original Sound Track
03 - Xenosaga II - Jenseits von Gut und Böse ~Movie Scene Soundtrack~
04 - Xenosaga Original Soundtrack
05 - Soukaigi Original Soundtrack
06 - Xenogears Original Soundtrack
07 - Seiken Densetsu 2 Original Sound Version
08 - Seiken Densetsu 3 Original Sound Version
09 - Chrono Cross Original Soundtrack
10 - Final Fantasy VIII Original Soundtrack
I prefer original soundtracks over everything. Okay, many arrangements are "better" but originals are in my humble opinion superior. Anyway, it should also help to make an overall rating. What would it bring if I post a soundtrack, which only a few people know.. it would never flow into the end Top-List, so I've chosen masterpieces which have the chance to be into the final RPGN Top-List. :)

ok I know I told Yume, That I will post my TOP 10 in a few Days but I couldnt wait so here goes:
01.- Genso Suikoden II ~ Orizzonte
02.- Xenogears ~ Creid
03.- Xenosaga Episode 1 OST
04.- Dragon Quest VII ~ Warriors of Eden ~ on Piano
05.- Chrono Cross OST
06.- Chrono Trigger OST (No OSV)
07.- Genso Suikdoen III Ongakushu ~ Rustling Wind
08.- Motoi Sakuraba Live Concert ~ Star Ocean & Valkyrie Profile
09.- Genso Suikoden Ongakushu Produced by Hiroyuki Nanba
10.- Grandia Original Soundtracks 1
Well that my Top 10, Incredible !!!!! I break with all expectation that it would be a 07/10 SUikoden album hehehehe I have my Favorite Ones hehehehehehehe, also I leave FF albums cuz I heard them a lot and after a lot of time I realized that theres n one that I really Like, Like the one I put hehehehe
1 - Super Metroid - Sheer unadulturated atmosphere in a time where game music was blips and blops, so ahead of its time and still amazing to hear when compared to its peers
2 - Rareware Soundtracks - hehe a bit of a cheap shot but rare are masters of music making IMO. Jet Force Gemini is nothing short of stellar, Perfect Dark was amazing and lets not forget Conkers Bad Fur Day.........oh and I still love my Killer Kuts CD to death. Rare make my fav music
3 - Zelda 64 Rearranged - Wow they took an already stellar soundtrack and just wow......... made it mindblowing
4 - Plok - one word is all thats needed "infectious"
5 - Dance Dance Disney Rave Audio - LOL I FUCKING LOVE THIS
6 - FF3/6 - Easy the best of all of Squares magnificant soundtracks
7 - F-Zero Guitar Arranged - Best Guitar Arranged Album ive heard thus far
8 - Breath of Fire 2 - Hard to explain my love of this, its one of my fav RPG's and the music is of a type that sticks in your head for days, God of Decadence = best game church music ever!
9 - Jet Set Radio - FUNKY! Sweet Soul Brotha, Sweet Soul Sweet!
10 - Yoshi's Story - Simply because the Yoshi's singing in the credits appear to be screaming 'THE ASSHOLES, THE ASSHOLES, THE ASSHOLES"
har!!!!!
Well, if I start to think to much about it, I'll never post at all, the choices are just too difficult. So here I go :
01- Chrono Cross OST (I know it's very cliché, but I can't help it, I love this OST)
02- Genso Suikoden Celtic Collection 2
03- Grandia II ~Povo~ (Deus isn't bad either ^^)
04- Napple Tales OST (the most bizarre Video Game OST ever... good work, Miss Kano !)
05- Legend of Mana OST (How to dream a game...)
06- Parasite Eve 1 OST
07- Genso Suikoden Piano Collection 2 - Avertun
08- Final Fantasy VI - Grande Finale
09- Castlevania - Symphony of the Night OST
10- Valkyrie Profile OST
Wow, that was pretty hard. Funny, six of those albums were composed (originally, for arranged album) by women :D

Here I go ! There are a lot of albums that I like because of a couple of tracks and their overall atmosphere. My top 10 features solid albums in which I appreciate every single track :
01 - Xenosaga Episode I OST (when Mitsuda goes epic...)
02 - Star Ocean : The Second Story Arrange Album (the best arrange album by Sakuraba IMO)
03 - Ragnarok Online OST (a gizmo from Korea that has shaken the world of game music two years ago...)
04 - Devil May Cry OST (dark and powerful)
05 - Emperor : Battle for Dune - the gamerip (awesome atmosphere for a strategy game)
06 - Final Fantasy Tactics (the legendary album by Sakimoto & Iwata)
07 - Final Fantasy VI OST (the most solid FF album IMO)
08 - Onimusha 2 Orchestra Album (a splendid and moving work)
09 - Soul Calibur II OST (epic combat music at its best)
10 - Castlevania : Symphony of the Night OST (astonishing in its variety of styles)
So I'm too lazy to hunt down all the appropriate names, as in OST, OSV, OGS ARRR!!! If there is no acronym, it's the original soundtrack of the game. Also note that these are all Albums, as the topic title says. Not gamerips or emulated music.
1. Shadow Hearts
2. Treasure Hunter G
3. Final Fantasy Tactics
4. Vagrant Story
5. Baten Kaitos
6. Demon Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight (Castlevania SoTN, for all you not in the know)
7. Kingdom Hearts
8. Secret of Evermore
9. Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana)
10. Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter

Heh, we all got different tastes as I can see. I'm surprised that mainly, these are all OSTs. Mitsuda and Uematsu seem to come often.
Here goes for me:
1-Falcom Neo Classical
This is the best classical (not only orchestral but also classical) arranged score ever done in the history of VGM IMO. It's not for everyone cause it's doesn't move in the way orchestral OSTs do but if you like classical music, this is a must have.
2-Xenosaga: Episode I OST
Yes, I like Mitsuda, he's a genius, better than Uematsu. This soundtrack has the best themes ever even if they become repetitive. Gnosis, U-Tic, The Miracle are great compositions.
3-Tsugunai OST
Yeah, another Mitsuda :p. AT first, I hated this albm until It grew on me. Similar to Chrono Cross and Xenogears music, this is a score that really goes with the story and action in the game.
4.Mario and Zelda Big Band Live CD
Oh yeah baby, Big band rocks and when you hear Zelda played by a big band and you never even thought itwould ever happen (because of the nature of the song) wel it's a major surprise. This is the best jazzy VGM I have in my collection. The Endign theme to Mario Sunshine is just awesome on this CD along with the Zelda tracks.
5- Nobunaga's Ambition - Ultimate Collection
Oh yeah. Yoko Kanno rocks in vgm as in anime music. This album contains tracks from Haouden and Tenshouki. If you like orchestral music and kind of epic, you'll like this album. You can hear some excerpts of what Miss Kano can do on the Orchestral Game Concert CDs.
6-Shenmue Orchestra Version
Simply amazing, this album goes beneath the simple arrangement of a track. It adds really more deepness to the songs and they grow on you. Try not to like Shenfa and the opening theme.
7-Symphony Ys
Oh yeah. These 4 tracks are really long but they are something. I never played a Ys game but the prchestral arrangements are simply amazing. The songs have amazing endings and climax.
8-Actraiser Symphonic Suite
Again an orchestral album. Yeah but this rocks. Nothing more to say.
9- Final Fantasy IX Piano Collections
The best PC album IMO of the series. I couldn't have a top ten without having a Uematsu album :p
10- Dragon Quest VI Symphonic Suite
This was the hardest choice to make. I hesitated between 5 albums. DQ6 has Pegasus. This track is simply beautiful. The others present on the album are great too.

I don't have "ten" best VGM albums, but I will name my favorites in no particular order:
Xenogears -- Yasunori Mitsuda (grand, beautiful, set the tone of the game very well)
Final Fantasy VI -- Nobuo Uematsu (some of his best work, alternately poignant and exhilirating -- Terra's Theme, the original FF theme, Zozo, I could go on but I won't)
Vagrant Story -- Hitoshi Sakimoto (wow...that's all I gotta say...wow)
Final Fantasy IX -- Nobuo Uematsu (yeah, I know...a lot of gamers didn't care for the game but the music is some of Uematsu-san's best -- Freya's Theme, "Terra"...good stuff)
Chrono Cross -- Yasunori Mitsuda (just more good music from Mitsuda-san. I play the game just to hear the music ;) )
Final Fantasy IX -- Nobuo Uematsu (yeah, I know...a lot of gamers didn't care for the game but the music is some of Uematsu-san's best -- Freya's Theme, "Terra"...good stuff)
I think I read somewhere that Uematsu himself considers this to be his best work as a whole.

does anyone believe that 'Legends of Zelda- majoras mask' should be in the top ten, i dont, i dont even think it makes the top 1000. they could have made that music score a lot better, i only downloaded it for the sake of having it, if i need memory some time for my hardrive that is the first thing thats being wiped.

Mmmm could we look at having the quantity of cda files that fit nicely onto a cdr for the overall then? We could then burn a nice assemble of tracks make a cover and stuff and stick it the the car etc. ;). Sounds good to me. In fact I demand it mwa-ha-ha-haaaaa.
A decent cdr of cda is around 14/16 tracks maybe? I mean we could have it as 10 and the others could be hidden easter eggs!!! We could go the extra mile and do a competition for the cdr art and the winner provides the name of the collection etc.

That would be cool, but so far we have only favourite albums. To make such a CD we should have everyone agreeing on their favourite tracks, which is kinda difficult in my opinion :wonder: But hey, we could still give it a try...
1 - publish the results concerning favourite albums of all times
2 - ask people to give two favourite tracks for each album
What do you think about this ? I'm sure we'll end up with a best-of album more interesting than the one that has been created on GFF, precisely because we have started with albums, and not just tracks.

Oh yes, this has to be a go for us. This needs a few more people to respond to it. Get the buzz from the submittees so far etc.
Oh I did get a little ahead of myself in the post previous, What Zeugma mentioned is what I was sort of thinking but didn't type, lol, when you get into an idea you tend to miss some key info for everyone else, well you do if you're named Tanis ;).
