Hello, I'm here, once again, causing troubles to both moderators and posters with my hard-to-achieve requests. Would someone here happen to have the OST of the Vampire Hunter (Darkstalkers' Revenge) OVAs of Capcom and/or the OST of "WarGames: Defcon 1" for PSX? Both had excelent OSTs and both are almost impossible to find. If someone is able to help me like I have been gently helped with my quest for Rhapsody's OST, I would be VERY gratefull to you. Thanks.

:( Sorry, I can't help you with any of the two...
but I'm sure someone here can. :)

Just one thing - please be so kind to use the "Request" thread next time you are looking for something. That's better than starting a new thread everytime. :)

I don't have either of them, and with the little search I made I didn't find any information about WarGames soundtrack. Official one anyway. I wouldn't rule out a gamerip though if the musics were any good.

First, I didn't used the request thread beacuse Locke Cole said he is taking a break and (for logical conclusion), it's useless then. Second, WarGames:Defcon 1 has it's OST on CDA format on the same Game CD, so if someone happen to have the game, it would be easy to ripp the OST. I would be very gratefull if someone can upload it to some server, 'cause is a REALLY GOOD OST.

I've also got none of your requests :( but made a little research about the Dark Stalkers OST you've requested. Well.. theres a big anime OST distro group, called anime-ost. They've released nearly every anime-osts but none of dark stalkers. Its already an old experieced group. I think there's no Dark Stalkers OVA OST, since its only a OVA and not so popular below the anime freaks. If there is a dark stalkers ova ost, its probably hidden in the deepest japanese anime store shelves :(

Well, Darkstalkers OVA ost DOES exist. I found the cover of the CD on eBay and Amazon.com. Still, I guess is not so popular. Too bad, the tracks includes really awesome compilations of Jazz like music of many styles. But, as I said, is really hard to find. So, if someone happen to have it, I would be MIGHTY thankfull. Once again, thank you, Yume-san, for researching.

See, the thing is that you are referring to the music as OST all the time. OST stand for Original Soundtrack. If the music is on game CD, it's not an Original Soundtrack. It's a gamerip.

And sorry if I sound like an ass, but things like this bother me.

Well, its out of the topic.. but I agree with Kilu. Many people using OST instead of Soundtrack or GameRip. Thats a big problem. Many of those people share their files. Thats why I get so many problems with unknown stuff I download. People name everything with OST, then its an gamerip.. I have to reload everything.. sometimes I load a few times a gamerip.. only because of the Original Soundtrack and Soundtrack problematic. Theres a big difference in quality between gamerip/soundtrack and original soundtrack. Its better to be exactly in such a case :D

These are the guidelines (that I just made :D but I think they are more or less accurate when it comes to OST/gamerip differences) atleast more or less. They probably miss stuff, as I'm not so interested in gamerips or stuff like that. Also, included some random stuff. Because I'm a random stuffer?

OST/Original Soundtrack: Released as a separate CD, either as official release (sold on stores) or as a bonus item. Few examples of bonus items; Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (http://www.chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/slus01073.html) came with the game as a separate disc. (notice how it doesn't have it's own catalogue number, instead Chudah lists the game catalogue number). Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem Sound Track (http://www.chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/edarkness.html) was a Nintendo Powers subscribers bonus (afaik. I have heard that it could have been purhased even if you were not a subcriber). The Very Best of Kirby (http://www.chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/kirby042.html) was a Club Nintendo premium item; released in 2004.

Gamerip: Music ripped directly from the game, either with some wires (Golden Sun Anthology, most of the earlier Sonic games rips floating around),CD audio in the game (Total Annihilation, WarGames: Defcon 1) or XA (or similar, I think Beyond Good & Evil PC rip falls under this method) audio that can be ripped with specialized programs. And everything similar to these methods.

Emulated music: NSF, GSF, PSF, USF. Soundcode ripped from the game with specialized programs (IDAPro) which can be played in several more popular mediaplayers (winamp) but requires in-put plugins. Does not compare to OST in sound quality, but is mostly better than gamerips done with the wire method. Not all games can be ripped like this though, PSX games where music is XA audio can not be ripped as PSFs, for example. There are also other emulated music formats, SPC and GYM for example. Their emulation method is different though.

:D

Also, I have noticed that sometimes people talk about soundtrack when they mean the OST, but sometimes people can also just mean the sound tracks of the game. It's a confusing world we live in  Also, don't take this as a preach. But if you are into game music, it's good to know the difference.

I got a question.. and pardon my lack of knowledge...

What is a.."Redbook" ?
In which category it fall ?

Redbook means game music on the game CD's audio tracks, such as the Total Annihilation or Warcraft II soundtracks. I think it belongs to the game rip category.

Yeah, exactly what Zeugma said.

Redbook is the stuff that any CD player can play. Rather standard CDA infact. "Without getting into detail, “RedBook” is a standard of the way audio is written to a disc. Every music CD you buy in a store represents a RedBook disc." (http://www.massivemastering.com/html/redbook_cd_s.html)

:) Thanks for the informative link, Kilu - that's good to know.
I didn't know what Redbook means, either....
Zeugma is probably, right, it should fit in under GameRip.

...you know, I'm always curious about such things, so...
anyone got an idea why it is called "Redbook"?

It's named after one of a set of colour-bound books that contain the technical specifications for all CD and CD-ROM formats.
Rainbow Books (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Books) in wikipedia might be of interest to you :D
