I've recently discovered a freeware audio player with astonishing features :

Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player
Audio formats supported "out-of-the-box": WAV, AIFF, VOC, AU, SND, Ogg Vorbis, MPC, MP2, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC
Audio formats supported through official addons: FLAC, OggFLAC, Monkey's Audio, WavPack, Speex, CDDA, TFMX, SPC, various MOD types; extraction on-the-fly from RAR, 7-ZIP & ZIP archives
Full Unicode support on Windows NT
ReplayGain support
Low memory footprint, efficient handling of really large playlists
Advanced file info processing capabilities (generic file info box and masstagger)
Highly customizable playlist display
Customizable keyboard shortcuts
Most of standard components are opensourced under BSD license (source included with the SDK)
NB :The replayGain support allows one to play all one's tracks at the same volume (forget those brutal changes when switching from one album to the other :D ).

This was the copy & paste from their site. To continue with my personal comments, I decided to switch from Winamp to foobar2000 because of its customizable interface and its Digital Signal Processing system (one can form a custom DSP plugin chain, with plugins such as crossfader, stereo expander or soft clipping limiter).
Granted, it is not as easy to use and configure as Winamp but it is technically superior on every aspect :shades:

I'll try it :D I'm already bored from my out-of-date winamp 2.9x so.. a fresh breeze might be a good idea. I hope there's a way to use a decoder plugin equally to MAD plugin. Well, we'll see. :)

Edit: it's great. My standard player from now on. Works excellent combined with my other software. I luv the crossfading feature and the auto-equalzier. http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/dance.gif

Hmm... foobar... Fubar... I wonder if that was intentional or not?

I think it's intentional. Also, I have known of foobar for quite some time, and have both winamp and foobar installed. Haven't had the time to thuroughly test it, I have only used it submit some katakana artist names to audioscrobbler. Which is the only advantage it has over winamp that I know of (because,as I said, I haven't tested it :p ). Winamp can't handle letters that are not ascii, as in cyrillic, kanji, katakana and the like.

I'm getting more and more addicted to the crossfading feature... Yesterday I tried to make a mix of game music, anime music and trance by crossfading songs with similar endings and openings. It came out damn well :D

Thanks to shoutCAST & foobar's streaming plugin, I can broadcast my mixes in realtime to some of my friends... but selecting the right songs requires a good knowledge of my music collection. So far, so good :shades:

hmm.. I got a id3 tag problem with foobar. well.. following one.. I've changed the ID3v1 Tag and ID3v2 Tag.. at this point nothing from the old tag is left. If I play the new tagged mp3 with winamp, I'm able to see my new tags. If I play it with foobar, it is showing me the old tag. Its mysterious since the old tag(s) is/are completely overwritten. If I reopen the strange mp3 with ID3-Tag-It or with an alternative tag editor like mp3Tag, there's nothing left and everything just fine, like in WinAmp. Only Foobar is showing me the old (not longer existing) tag. Any suggestions? I really dont get it.

In what program you tagged the files?

Yume> I really don't know... I use MP3Tag and foobar2000 as well, and everything seems to work fine.
Maybe foobar has stored your playlist in its database without updating the tags. I guess there's a refresh command, but I don't use this feature (I already have my own jukebox :shades: )

Actually that database thing sounds like it could be the problem. I don't use the database feature myself, so I don't know what it really does. Go to preferences and check if your database is enabled or not. If it's not enabled, I have no idea what could cause this. If it's enabled, you could try to disable it or nuke it and see if that helps.
