Sound Test X, Open Theme:
Coordinator: BAMAToNE
Art: silverDistortioN
Intro & Outro: <<subject name here>> (this could be you)
===============
We are now launching the 10th soundtest, silverDistortioN has dibs on album art, BAMAToNE is the coordinator. More details to come!
How to Submit:
BAMAToNE is the coordinator for the STX.

To submit:

FTP: Using your favorite FTP client, connect to bamatone.net (default port 21). The username is soundtest@bamatone.net and the password is soundtest.

IRC: Using your favorite IRC client, connect to irc.magicite.net and join #rpgn. DCC the file to me (BAMAToNE). I will have auto-get turned on, so I don't have to be around for you to submit your track.

Email: Email your submission to forums (at) bamatone.net.*** Don't forget to include all relevant information about your submission, and that means tagging your mp3! Be sure to include, title, artist, submitter, etc. ***

Basic Idea/Info
In a nutshell, Sound Test is a compilation cd made by us, the users of RPGN. It includes music, voicefiles, album art and playlist. Read further for more details and before asking question. :)

Open Themed Sets:
When the theme is open, it basically means that anything goes as long as it's music. There are absolutely no limitations, it can be game music, rap, metal, pop, rock, punk etc etc.
Themed Sets:
On themed sets, anything goes as long as it's music and fits in the theme. For example, on Halloween Theme we had a few horror movie tracks, on Christmas there was the usual Christmas songs, but also White the Heart from Star Ocean 2. If you are unsure if it fits, you can try and ask the coordinator. They usually know. Try to find a song that fits in as is, rather than editing the song to fit in. For example, on Instrumental Theme, try to find a song that has no singing, rather than pulling the song in your favourite audio editor and cutting out the vocal parts.
Song Length and Quality:
There are no rules on how long the submission can be, but don't go crazy, leave room for the rest of us. :D No rules on file quality either, just submit something that doesn't have too much clips and pops in it. :p
Fileformat: MP3
Yes yes, we know, ogg is so good and flac is lossless yada yada. Mp3 is the format of choice because everyone can use it, all portable players support it, it is simply the most spread format and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, in case you have a flac/ogg/whatever and want to submit it, we can convert the file to mp3. In most cases it will lose a little quality in the process, but it is what it is.
Previously Submitted Songs:
Don't submit anything that has been submitted before. Check this list (http://beerlake.net/SoundTest/soundtestlist.txt) to see if the song you have in mind has been submitted already.
Number of Submissions:
General rule of thumb is "one song per person", but sometimes there is room for alternate submissions, which are either filled by the coordinator (with "on behalf of" submissions), or by someone else. We will let you know if there is room for more. :p
Voicefiles:
Voicefile is a a separate audio file of you speaking to us. They are not mandatory, but recommended. Crappy mic is not an excuse, listen to the earlier soundtest to hear how crappy some of our voicefiles are, but we don't mind. Idea is that you talk some, whatever you like (just nothing too serious, this is supposed to be fun), and present your song. As in, tell us who did it, it's name and any other information you wish to share us about it. Some of us like to add background music to our voicefiles, but obviously that is not mandatory either. If you want an example of good voicefiles, Pezito is notoriously good at making them. But don't ashamed if yours isn't as good, neither are mine. :)
Other Content:
In addition to the songs and voicefiles, a set has Intro and Outro voicefiles (by coordinator or someone else), front and back cover, and playlist. Creators for the additional content are usually decided along with the theme.

And if you have a microphone, it's encouraged to record a small voice file to accompany your song of choice. There is no official form for it, but here's an example. "This is Kilu blaa blaa (general blabber) and my choice for the soundtest is [insert song title here] by [insert artist here] from the album [insert album title here]. Enjoy it as much as you can when you're sitting on a bowl." You get the idea. And don't worry about your english even if you're not native. I'm not either :D

My song has been sent in ages ago, but I didn't really expect this thing to be pulled of on summer anyway :) Just hope that Zedie hasn't lost my submissions. I have a voice file coming this time as well, recorded ages ago, just haven't had the time to finish it up.

The RPGN Sound Test has been around for a little while now, and is a representation of songs that our users enjoy, sometimes based on a shared theme, sometimes not. The Sound Tests are setup like albums, and seperated into Volumes. I think we're up to 7 currently, and back albums can be obtained via some of the mirrors. We welcome new people to express their taste in music on the new volumes, so come join us :D

All of the previous Sound Tests can be downloaded from my server with the following username and password:

O_O what a surprise! lol

I will make an announcement on my mirror page again later. (I got rid of it when I was having connection and router problems.)

I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that Zedie hasn't made any comment on the soundtest thread yet. Afterall, it's he who puts the set together in the end.

Oh yeah, and I had called the intro and outtro for this one.

...we'll see how much you can expect out of ms paint and a touchpad.

All you foreigners SPEAK! Accents are cool. ^_^
Especially Pez's! :p

Reminds me of a funny person I spoke to at work today, at the start of our surveys we have a few sentences telling people what it's about, the guy didn't want to do the survey so it went kinda like this:

Man: WHERE'D YOU GET MY ****ING NUMBER?!?! WHO'S YOUR ****ING SUPERVISOR?! (etc.)
Me: *whimper*
Man: SO ANYWAY I'VE JUST GOT ONE THING LEFT TO SAY TO YOU THEN YOU CAN STICK YOU MICROPHONE WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE!
Me: ...?
Man: You have a really nice voice.
*slam phone down*

....I am afraid. :wonder:

 So, Yuffie... from your comments in this thread, am I to assume you will be participating this time? Let's get a firm yes or no, hmm? :evillaugh:

:p As for announcements, I was waiting for my aversion to the thread to diminish before posting this:

~ Submission deadline for Sound Test - Set 7 is Aug 15th.
~ This is a special set featuring television themes (although if participation doesn't increase, the field will be expanded. ;))
~ As others have stated, voice files are encouraged but not required.
~ This project is open to forum posters, which is not to say only forum regulars... There is a difference, you know, but some of the newer people seem to think they are excluded. :wonder:
~ And don't post in this topic if you don't plan to participate, please.

That is all, for now. :bouncy:

Yuffie
08-04-2004, 12:14 PM
.............damn you Zedie. :p

Can't I just say maybe, just to keep you on your toes? :D
It's not a proper sound test without me sitting on the fence!

Is posting in this topic kinda like a contract? :p

Kilu
08-04-2004, 12:14 PM
Add the deadline to the calendar :) As for the current submission... you have what.. like 2 submissions now? Not counting your own.

Zedie9
08-04-2004, 12:19 PM
:wonder: I don't know... I'll look later. Right now I'm trying to catch up on posts since I slept early last night. You guys keep replying to everything - so I can't ever 'age' the boards. ;)

Look at me, I can do it. It' easy really. ^^

...easier said than done, young frenchman.

i noticed the due date is now august 15th... coincidentally the same day i have to turn in these three essays i should have done over the past several weeks. damn.

Sorry if I never submitted a song. I really don't like the theme for set 7. I'm still curious to hear it though ! May not be bad after all.

Do we upload the track to Kyari's server this time too? Or do we send it to you?

Hwlp me I'm confused!!!!!

Kyari

I would expect you can. Just upload it there . . . it'll all be compiled in the end.

:D Whichever way you prefer, although I prefer Kyari's. In the main directory is a folder for temporary Sound Test files. Don't forget to rename the mp3 with your RPGN username in the title. ;)

And again ~ the project is open to anyone posting on the boards - not just regulars. :bouncy:

Did we ever decide the order of the sets? As in, every second is a themed one and every second is non-themed, or something like that? Because I can't seem to remember, and finding out requires reading the old thread atleast couple pages back (I assume). And right now I'm just so lazy.

Mithrandir
08-08-2004, 11:57 AM
Just so Zedie knows, my submission is already uploaded to Kyari's FTP. By the way how many submissions have you received at this time? Because if there is space for another one, I might want to submit another track.

:P You've always been lazy - just less lazy than me. ;) Nothing was ever set in stone, but I generally resist making two special sets in a row (after the back-to-back Halloween and Winter Specials. :shades: ). After this themed set, we'll likely have open submission (or two)... it's sort of loosely decided by me and general consensus. ;)

:D Kilu sent his track long ago, and Zeugma did as well. Others have mentioned their selection but haven't actually sent them in. Elhaym sent a selection that doesn't qualify, but I haven't let her know that yet. I haven't ripped my own tracks yet. And Kilu also sent his alternate should one be needed. :bouncy:

Hey Mith, you should go and revive the 'Name that game' thread... it's your turn to ask the question.

Mithrandir
08-13-2004, 06:19 PM
Well it has been asked :D

I suppose by the lack of reply from Kyari that he IS there actually. Bah I'll know when he'll be back.

Zeugma 440
08-15-2004, 04:40 AM
...and today's the deadline :p Well, it seems that making sound tests during summer isn't that easy (that was the same thing last year, if I remember well).... or maybe the theme doesn't appeal to many of us :wonder: That's strange because this ST has been the first one whose theme has been voted :D

Zedie9
08-15-2004, 05:15 AM
:D Don't worry - I have a backup plan. ;) I simply wasn't able to get online until late tonight. I'll post an announcement later. :bouncy:

Spill your beans :) And I hope the plan is good.

Zedie9
08-17-2004, 04:09 AM
:D The announcement is this: In the hopes of increasing participation in Sound Test 7, the selection pool is being re-enlarged to include any main theme, be it from a television show, movie, anime, or game. Since television themes are still preferred, anyone submitting a short tv theme gets two submissions (assuming there will still be space). :)

So... the submission deadline has been extended to August 31st. ;)

And remember - the Sound Test is open to anyone posting on the boards. Send me a PM or post here if you're interested. :bouncy:

Kilu
08-17-2004, 08:13 AM
:(
I was so hoping for a full movie themed disc in the future. And to include games in here as well. Meh. Sure, the participation sucked before, but adding all that in there makes me lose all my expectations and interest for this disc.

What can I say, tv themes kick ass, and to hear some obscure themes was the reason why I originally suggested it. Now it will be cluttered with game themes that I can hear from my collection already.

Pezito
08-17-2004, 05:14 PM
I think I agree with Kilu. :wonder: But I also fear that the original TV-only theme could be too much of a constraint... However maybe it's all just summer ? :)

I for one found a couple of themes I definitely think are good submissions, and that most of you don't know already ; that was my concern, as I didn't want to submit yet another X-Files, Friends or Buffy theme ! ;) Old TV series are a better choice. Maybe we should make it a rule, that (for instance) the theme has to be older than 10 years ? It would allow mid-recent stuff, which either most of us don't have or would still be glad to hear - while avoiding recent stuff, which most of us either have or still know very well.

Oh, and the 2-submissions idea for short themes is ok with me, as indeed most TV themes are so short that it's very difficult to submit something long enough. :p

Zedie9
08-18-2004, 01:03 PM
:D I, too, wanted the television themes exclusively, but I haven't gotten enough participation, even if I include those maroons who have said they'd send a track, but haven't actually sent it. And like you, Kilu, I figured we could some day have a movie themes only set, or anime or game only. :wonder:

I guess I could make the theme television only, though I don't want to restrict which years are usable (sorry Pezzie), and send out PMs and emails trying to encourage participation. And if enough people don't participate, I suppose those that do can keep adding tracks until we're full. How does that sound to everyone? :bouncy:

Kilu
08-18-2004, 04:34 PM
Sounds okay. Let's not give up just yet. You need to harass some people :)

Pezito
08-18-2004, 04:58 PM
I'm ok with that too. It really has to be the Dark Evil Effect of summer on the RPGamers' minds ! (°o°);

Since I have been lacking in the contribution to our Sound Test albums, the least I can do is help distribute them. You will find Sound Test 6 is available now at:

http://205.209.144.11/SoundTest/ST6.html

I plan to add the rest soon. Once I get the new one, I'll add that too. Hopefully it'll get it out there to more then just us forum goers, maybe even encourage some participation. I'll need you guys to write up a blurb about what the sound test is, once I'm done the pages.

:) Autumnal Soundtest sounds good...

Pezito, you could use last year's leaf-collection to design a cover :D

I don't remember all the themes you guys had thought up....
but, seeing as TV-Themes really were a disaster, we might resort to an open-submission set?

And, Locke, it's a great idea to get more people to participate by distributing the past albums... :)
maybe someone can sum up the basic soundtest rules as guidelines for participation to put them on your page as well

Kilu
10-04-2004, 07:50 AM
I'm open for open-submission set. LOL? :)
And I might as well reveal my submissions for the axed tvtheme disc...*drumroll?*

Quantum Leap theme music. One of the greatest tv themes I have ever heard hands down. I want that series back :(

Spider-Man theme. You know, the original one. Spiderman, spiderman, friendly neighbourhood spiderman. I was expecting a small participation, thus I had this as alternative sent over the same time as the primary submission.

If anyone's interested in either of those, I could probably provide them. But seeing how pathetic the participation was, I doubt anyone gives a rats ass about couple tv themes.

hehe :D Nice work, Silver ! You've been awarded the White Star of Ultimate Paint Mastery :spin:

I fear the release of the TV set has been compromised by a dreadful lack of participation :( Ironically, its theme had been choosed by voting

Anyways, we'd better come back to an open set when everybody is back on the boards...

Pezito
10-13-2004, 05:51 AM
Wow, Silver ! It's a pity, really, 'cause I like your pics... Maybe we can save them for another TV theme - if we manage to actually complete one, one day ! XD I think summer didn't do any good to the submitting of tracks and all ; and I for one wanted something really cool and original (= not the X-Files theme for instance ;) ), but I tried so much that I always delayed... (-_-)

Anyway ZEDIE !!! Where are ya ???

Zedie9

:p Bah! I'm here, and I don't like it when Jim substitutes pictures of himself and tries to pass them off as me. ;)

Anyway, as I've said in other threads, I've been pretty busy myself - I won't even be able to finish posting tonight. Since the television themed set fell through (ironically, as Zeugma pointed out - :wonder: go figure - by voting), and since the boards being down seems to have caused the loss of lots of momentum, we'll go with the open submission suggestion, with this modification: If you submit a tv theme, you get two submissions (assuming, of course it's not the extended version of the Miami Vice Theme ;)). For example, if Kilu were to submit his Quantum Leap Theme, he could also throw in the Spiderman Theme for good measure. However, if he chose to submit some delicious (yet strikingly singular) Led Zeppelin tune, he would be limited to that alone. All of this would, of course, have no bearing on voice files, which are still requested but not required. :bouncy: In Kilu's particular case, if he wanted to submit Chipped Ruoste™, he might be allowed a whopping three submissions! ;)

*Ahem* :emlaugh: In this scenario, Silver's wonderful covers would still be valid. I'm going with this plan unless anyone voices logical objections. :spin:

Zeugma 440
10-14-2004, 08:46 AM

i was going to object on the grounds that you're overcomplicating something so fairly simple... but i don't particularly care.

Kilu
10-14-2004, 11:11 AM
Chipped Ruoste™ ;)

You are going to have to wait a long long time for that :)

As for my submissions, I won't be submitting the two I sent you back then. I'll save them for maybe some future set that serves their style/theme better. Hopefully they will fit in some future set.

Now I need think of some open submission :)

Zedie9
10-14-2004, 01:23 PM
i was going to object on the grounds that you're overcomplicating something so fairly simple... but i don't particularly care.
:) It's not complicated - Set 7 is now open submission, but if you send a television theme, then you can submit two tv themes. If you submit a regular song, you get one submission. What's complicated about that? :p

silverDistortioN
10-14-2004, 03:20 PM
what, seriously?

i didn't say it was complicated. i just said you're overcomplicating it. there's a subtle difference.

when "Set 7 is now open submission" becomes "Set 7 is now open submission, but if you send a television theme, then you can submit two tv themes. If you submit a regular song, you get one submission," i consider that overcomplicating.

Pezito
10-14-2004, 05:19 PM
Just to mention it : the "two songs instead of one" point isn't related to TV themes as some kind of bonus, but just because a TV theme is always twice shorter than a real song. ;)

silverDistortioN
10-14-2004, 06:45 PM
so we can have two of any song that's under two minutes or so?
cuz i had my eye on a couple of 8 minute TV themes...

Where/who sould i send it? and umm... how do i make a voice file? only thing i can think of is the sound recorder on windows but somehow i dont think thats it :P

by the way does it have to be the main theme of the TVshow to get to send two? or coudl i use things form offical soundtracks?

Kilu
10-29-2004, 09:55 AM
I atleast thought that the main theme of a tv series would be the way to go. Because they are generally short.

As for the voicefile... you have soundcard right? :p Generally every soundcard or soundchip I have seen have their own wav recorder. Then you'll need a mic of course, and then you need to bable. :)

As for sending the song and the file... Zedie has been the one to collect them, but he has been more or less away recently.

I haven't participated in the Sound Tests since the first I do believe, maybe I should get off my butt and submit something one of these days..... maybe. :emlaugh:

So who do I send this to inorder to submit one?

We need to start harrassing Zedie.

indeed he needs to lurk less and compile sound tests more :P

Zedie!!!!!!!!!

We need you to get back!

Stop trying to ask Natalie out, she's already with me!

I'll certainly participate in the next soundtest again. Remember me saying I'd skip this one ? The theme isn't appealing enough for my taste.

So Zed, let's get on with it and go to the next !! Can't wait ! ^_^

silverDistortioN
11-04-2004, 10:19 PM
it *is* the next theme... it's open set now.

...unless you meant you don't want to do an open submission.

Kilu
11-05-2004, 12:12 PM
Kazerdan meant the tv theme one.

I think I'm gonna SPAM Zedie.

Funny how I mentioned up there that I have already chosen the song for this open one. Well, it's been so long already that I don't remember it anymore =)

silverDistortioN
11-05-2004, 08:37 PM
well, he said he'd skip *"this"* one... one could only assume he thought we were still limiting it to TV themes only.

...i'm thinking about taking over and assembling the set myself.
what would i have to do if i did?

Kilu
11-06-2004, 07:31 AM
Don't assume too much Silver :)

As for taking over & all... no idea.

Making a playlist, make sure that files are tagged properly, decide the order of the files. Nothing else comes to mind right now.

silverDistortioN
11-08-2004, 11:29 PM
Don't assume too much Silver :)i don't assume too much! YOU assume too much!!! >.<
what makes you think he wasn't still thinking that we're still currently doing a TV set?
i propose as proof: kaserdan, were you thinking that the current set was still TV only, or by "this one," did you in fact mean the last set that never actually was?

Making a playlist, make sure that files are tagged properly, decide the order of the files. Nothing else comes to mind right now.that's what i was thinking, but it would seem kinda stupid if we're all here waiting, depending on Zedie for something so simple... don't you think?

:) I base my assumption in earlier knowledge. I remember Kazerdan saying that same thing earlier, when the set was still active

that's what i was thinking, but it would seem kinda stupid if we're all here waiting, depending on Zedie for something so simple... don't you think?
True enough. I nominate Silver to be the next hotshot in Soundtest! :)

Hi everyone,

I just dropped by to see if you had already released Set 7.

I haven't been here for some time -
life's been a bit rough, and I had to sort out a few things - actually, I still have.
But seeing how Set 7 is still under development, I thought I could offer to coordinate it ^^ - as long as everyone's ok with that.
(I don't want to impose myself, you know)

Unfortunately I still don't have a FTP server - but maybe you could upload your submissions to Pezito's? (If that's ok with you, Pezito?)
Since we had decided on open submission, and some of you had already picked some songs, and Silver has already drawn a cover, we could start right away...

You guys would do me a great favour - I still listen to the Soundtest albums quite frequently, and they always get me in a good mood :)

Kilu
12-14-2004, 11:06 AM
We need you Elhaym, to revive the rpgn forums to their previous glory :)

Anyway, I'm okay with you being as the coordinator. Although I did nominate Silver to take over, he didn't apparently do anything :ponder: And I even dug a fine hotshot picture to accompany

As for the Server, you could do the same as we did when Zedie was the hotshit. Most of us used Kyaris server as the pitstop (I think the soundtest(temp) folder is still in there) and as soon as Zedie got the song he deleted it from the temp folder, just in case some impatient person couldn't wait for the actual release of the set :) I usually transferred my submission/s and voicefile via AIM to Zedie though. So that is always an option if you still use AIM more or less frequently.

We should really give a kickstart to this project once again. After the miserable failure of tv theme disc this whole thing sort of died. Now would be as good time as any to revive it.

So basicly, I'm obviously in. Whatever comes out of this and however long it takes to put together, ateast we need to start it. Everyone is welcome to join in, all of you new guys as well. Feel free to ask questions as well.

Oh, and I personally would prefer if you everyone would keep their chosen songs as a secret. Just post in here to let us know if you are interested. We very well can't make a soundtest album with only two participants.

This might have been my second longest post in these new forums btw. Longest being the one about RE 1½ (and other un/related junk) in reply to jetblue a while back no doubt :D So nevermind the typos, as there are most likely atleast some. I'm just too lazy to proofread this

Elhaym van Houten
12-16-2004, 06:17 AM
Wow, your 2nd longest post, Kilu? The Sound Test should be proud :D....

anyways, since no one seems to protest that much, I'll just take over - Zedie can jump back on the job anytime he likes.

So let's start with submissions :)
Set 7 is open themed, so any kind of song is welcome.
For those unfamiliar with the Sound Test, here are the basics:

Chose a song you like a lot
Take your microphone and record a small file of yourself saying something about the song you chose, yourself, the world ingeneral or what-so-ever you like
Upload your files to Pezito's FTP server, or send them to me via mail, ICQ or AIM. Send me a mail or a pm to arrange a time when to be online.
We'll release this set as soon as we got 80 minutes full

^^ that's about it. If there are any more questions, feel free to ask them here.

As for questions.... I also have a few:
Silver, would you mail me that pretty cover you designed?
And was there someone volunteering for the intro / outro?
And has anyone else problems with getting the directory listing from kyari's or is that just my FTP client?

Kilu
12-16-2004, 11:48 AM
Take your microphone and record a small file of yourself saying something about the song you chose, yourself, the world ingeneral or what-so-ever you like
I might add that this is not required, but highly recommended. We want to hear what you sound like :)

As for the Kyaris server and FTP clients in general... Make sure that you try to connect to Kyari with passive mode on. If you already had passive on, or if that doesn't help, change your client to Filezilla :D Oh btw, last you were around we talked about FFT/FFTA soundtracks. I thank you for the FFTA, but it seems that FFT disc 2 upload is/has been unfinished since then :( It misses six or seven last tracks if I remember correctly

Elhaym van Houten
12-16-2004, 02:18 PM
Thanks for the tip Kilu - so, now we can use Kyari's for submissions as well :)(might make things a lot easier ^^)

Oh, and thanks for reminding me - I had wanted to upload the missing tracks for some time now, but always forgot...
I think I'll get around to it soon :D.

Kilu
12-17-2004, 11:04 AM
Now all we need is people to join in. Back in the old forum days this thread was midly active all the time, now it has more or less died. Hey, all you new guys! Come on, show some interest!

So far participants are:
Kilu
Elhaym (assuming you are in with song as well, not just as the coordinator :D )
Jari (maybe. Also Elhaym, take note that jarimheiska is pikatsu on these new forums. That is, if you didn't know that already)

But we need more. A lots more.

Oh I almost forgot. You still have the same AIM name I'm assuming?

Elhaym van Houten
12-19-2004, 02:26 AM
Yeah, you're right there, Kilu - doesn't seem as though anyone was much interested :emlaugh: ...

....maybe I should send a mail round that we're trying to revive the project?

^^ Yes, I knew Jari is now called Pikatsu here - but thanks for telling me anyway :)
Oh, yeah, and I still go by my AIM name...though I'm not online that often.
Better tell me when to be, if you want to upload your submission that way.

Oh, yeah - and to all those who haven't participated in the past: everyone's welcome.
The only thing you need is a piece of music you like a lot, and the wish to share it with others and hear their opinions on it...
...and yes, like Kliu said, those voicefiles are optional, though always welcome - they've always been fun :)
So, I encourage everyone to participate - otherwise, it'd be a very short album :D

Kilu

You could join in yourself.

Elhaym van Houten
12-22-2004, 10:55 AM
Yes, definitely - seems like a lot of people don't come here as regularly as they did anymore...

:D Yuffie, how about you joining in?

Yuffie
12-22-2004, 11:14 AM
I would...but it's practically tradition that I miss the deadline.

What's the theme this time?

Kilu
12-22-2004, 11:20 AM
There is no theme. Open set, just submit a song you like a lot. Also, as there is no deadline either ;)

Everytime there is an open set I have tried to submit something maybe not already known by everyone. Makes it more interesting that way, instead of just submitting something that everyone already has :)

Yuffie
12-22-2004, 05:50 PM
No theme? No deadline? Perfect! :D

That means if I leave it really late then I can just throw a song in and hope for the best! :D

Just kidding, I'll try. ;)

Sent a submission to kyaris ftp-soundtest temp folder. No peeking till its released!
It was that song or suikoden II orizonte:track 4,or Beck's:the golden age guitar solo version.
I cant use my brothers microphone because he will ask questions so its just the song.

I can play it on my guitar but this guy sings it so much better.

Elhaym van Houten
12-30-2004, 11:50 PM

Thanks for our first submission, Jet :)

can't you just "borrow" the mic while he's gone sometime?

Kilu
12-31-2004, 01:26 PM
And so what if your brother asks questions? Answer them?

As for me, I haven't decided on a song yet. I will most definitely make a voicefile as well, as it's not a big deal. I'm not sure if I will bother to put in backround music, but maybe I will.

Anyway, I think for sure I'll find someway to get my song to you guys. And yes, this time, for real, I'll send in something. I don't know about a voice file, but I should get a song in. Keep your fingers crossed, you thugs...

Edit: If it's any credit to you, Kilu, I went to this thread because I cliked on your signature. It works apparently, so keep it...

My family is very weary of me when it comes to internet stuff. Just a few weeks ago my sister was over and noticed a jar of marsachino cherries on top of the monitor and the camera nearby. Thought I was doing some nasty stuff told everyone and now the cameras missing. Probably my brother took it or my mom hid it.
It will take alot of fighting to get the camera and microphone back.
(The jar of cherries is weird. I took off the label and when the sun hits it it gives off nice red light. Reminds me of a specimen in a formaldehyde jar.)

And I thought of a good comedy routine for the voice file to. It would of been a bit long but funny.

Kilu's sig also got to me. I kept seeing it and it burned in my mind. The only way to stop seeing it everytime I closed my eye's was to submit a song,or with a bullet.http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif
Im kidding.

Hmmm.. well.. if I understood everything correctly, you guys plan to release an album with various pieces loved by the forum user + a headset spoken intro with a short announcement? Sorry, but this topic is veery long, already.. and its a little bit to time eating to read everything to be up-to-date. Thats why I ask again :)
If it is how I expect I'd also organize something. I already have a track in mind.. only question is.. which version of this track x_X since there are many better mix's than the original one. Are remix's allowed or is it Original Only?.. well.. lets see. Shouldnt be such a big deal to edit the track with cool edit and add a crossfading sequence between voice part and original track :)

For this set, everything is allowed. Be it from a game, anime, movie or just a regular artist. Be it rock, pop, classical, techno, remix, whatever. It's an open set for anything and for everyone. The spoken introduction is not required but cool beans if yo ucan cook one up. It makes RPGN more of a community knowing what people sound like and what kind of music they listen to. It's all in good fun. You can get the previus sound test from some of the rpgn mirrors, I believe Bamatone atleast has them, don't know if he is online though.

As far as my (and anyone else who planned to upload to Kyari) submission goes... Kyaris server is no more. Or actually, it is, but there is nothing there anymore, so it may not be safe to use it. So AIM or someone elses mirror for temporary holder for the tracks. And fear not, you can always count me in. I'm just waiting for other people to join in before I get the track to you (plus i have yet to choose, really).

It's quite interesting how none of the new guys (except Yume right now) have shown any interest in this thread.

the more,the merrier.

So far, we've got 2 submissions on my hd, and 3 announced submissions...
a whopping total of 5 :p
...and I still need the cover from Silver
.......and I still don't know who wants to do the intro & outro.
Kilu, how about you?

As for newcomers not joining...
maybe we don't keep this thread active enough?
(ok, I wasn't around very much the past few weeks to see to that myself, but I intend to change that :D )
or maybe we should repost the submission guidelines every week?
Anyone any ideas?

Kilu
01-25-2005, 10:51 AM
I did bump this thread couple times during your absence, but got no reply from new guys :( So yeah, maybe we need to keep it active instead of just me bumping it :p

As for intro/outro... don't know. I'll make ones if I get some funky idea for them. But I don't claim them though, so if anyone else is interested, go ahead and announce your interestment :)

Don't know about the covers from Silver. I'm trying to bug him at IRC right now, if he replies soon, I'll edit this post :)

Also, Pezito will probably want to jump in as well. He just needs to be reminded :) Which I'm about to do.

Let's keep this thread active :)

Also, if possible, keep your submissions a secret :) It's more fun when only organizer and possibly the cover maker knows what songs there are.

I have a private FTP server that is online 24/7. I volunteer for being a DL mirror once the Sound Test is released. I'll send the connexion parameters by PM, since I don't want any public leecher on my FTP.

Kilu, I'll send you my submission once I've done the voice intro :spin: See ya on MSN when I'm finished.

Try getting them to Elhaym instead :) She is the organizer :) And as for you Elhaym, you are still using the same AIM handle I assume? edit: I see that you do :)

As for Silver and Pezito...
I got hold of Pez with ICQ and he said he would check it out. Silver said... something. *checks the log* He thought that Zeugma was going to do them. Then I said that not afaik. And then blaa blaa, and then he said that he'll start working on the covers as soon as Elhaym has 7 submissions on her HD. So there :) Didn't ask him about a possible submission from himself though.

Elhaym van Houten
01-30-2005, 12:12 PM
Good that we can use your server for the distribution, Zeugma. That'll be a great help :).
And I'm looking forward to your announced submission as well :)...I'm sure it'll be a good one

Say, Kliu - didn't Silver already finish the covers for Set 7? I thought he did, but maybe my memory plays dirty some trick on me

01-30-2005, 03:14 PM
well i suppose you can count me as a newcomer whose interest is piqued. I was wondering if the tv/movie theme only would be possible for a future release because I have a great one for it. If not I'll just submitt it to this one. PM with whatever aim screen or ftp server i need to upload, too much stuff back and forth for me to follow. I can try and get it uploaded this week if i have the information.

01-30-2005, 03:45 PM
Great, thanks for joining, Don Quixote :)
This Sound Test Set is open submission, so submit anything you like...
I'm not sure if we'll try for the TV Theme Set again some time, since it was a disaster :D
so, if you've got a nice TV Theme you might as well to submit it now...
or submit something else and keep your hopes high for a TV Theme Set ;)

You can upload your submission directly to me via AIM. My nick is in my profile.
Just knock so I can give you permission for upload.

Before I make a song decision could you tell me if among the few submissions you have which are tv themed?

Kilu
01-31-2005, 09:44 AM
I'm going to guess that they are probably not tv themed. I'm going to keep my tv theme submission as a backup just in case we try the tv theme set again in the future. Also, I have now decided on an artist, still need to decide what song though :D

And hey, good for you guys to join in. Voicefiles recommended!

Elhaym van Houten

Elhaym now has my track and voicefile :)

It's a bit long (08:54) but it's also a new concept that noone has submitted before. You'll have the surprise when ST7 is released :D

Kilu
02-02-2005, 02:53 PM
New concept eh. That sounds interesting.

So what is the total amount of tracks now? 3 or 4? I mean the submitted ones only, not the ones that have been promised (like mine).

Say, Kliu - didn't Silver already finish the covers for Set 7? I thought he did, but maybe my memory plays dirty some trick on me
I forgot to answer this before, so here goes.
I think he had the layout ready, but maybe he wants to make new ones now that it's open theme? And maybe he wants to be sure that this one is going to happen so that he won't be doing useless work again.

What are the options for upload? Don't have AIM, and Kyari's FTP is definitely out, it doesn't seem to be working properly. I beleive I have a submission for the test, and I'll see if I can get my microphone working.

:) So far I have 3 song submissions on my hd - Jets, Zeugma's and mine, plus one voicefile (Zeugma's), filling about 20 minutes of the CD.
I think I may count in your's as well, Kilu, since there's no doubt you'll submit something :D
....plus 5 announced submissions: Yume, Jarl, Don Quixote, Yuffie and Ephraim...
and maybe Silver will want to submit something as well.

^^ that's more than I had hoped for so far :)

Ephraim > you can try and send your submission via mail...or do you have ICQ? I'm sure we'll find a way to get your files to me, so just chose something :)

Ephraim

Email sounds good... excet I'm on dialup, that may pose a problem. My supervisors at work don't like any sort of files going through their broadband system either. I don't believe I have ICQ either.

Zeguma mentioned he has an FTP server, that may be my best option. Where is it? and how do I access it?

I have decided to participate in this sound test, seeing how I am slacking out on the past ones. I do have a working microphone now, and you've all heard me by now, so theres no excuses. Are there any themes for this? Who do I submit my selection to?

Elhaym van Houten
02-03-2005, 02:08 AM
YAY, Locke http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/dance.gif
thanks for joining :)
Your submission goes to me, either via AIM or mail (don't have an FTP server yet, but I might set one up for the cause)
...and since you have a microphone now, how about doing the intro & outro?

:) Silver, cool that you're here again. I'll contact you as soon as I have submissions from 7 people on my hd. I don't want to see this project sink again, either.
Incase you don't feel like doing the cover, I had a nice inspiration yesterday night (sleepless time can be a good thing, too :D)...quite rare, since I don't paint & draw much anymore (last thing I did was the last cover...maybe those antidepressants are working?)

Anyway, this set is open-submission, to give everyone a chance to submit what they really like best at the moment. Any kind of music is allowed.
And voicefiles are, as always, optional but highly encouraged :D.

Incase you don't feel like doing the cover, I had a nice inspiration yesterday nightwell, i was really kinda looking forward to it, but why don't you sketch it out anyway and let us all have a look. =)

Or make it so that Silver does the front cover and Elhaym does the back? That way Silver would not need to know the tracklist (in case he wants to be kept in the dark, that is). But remember that some people may not have Nerocoverdesigner, and will probably want atleast an optional jpg/png/whatever image :)

Zeugma 440

Ephraim> I'll make an exception for you, check your PMs :D

Kilu> We have stopped using Nero coverdesigner since ST2 :wonder: I believe we should keep using JPEG/PNG files for the covers.
If I'm not totally mistaken, Elhaym used the cover designer on the last set. After I mentioned that not everyone has nero, she provided the regular pictures. Though I'm too lazy to confirm this from the old forums :D

Elhaym van Houten
02-04-2005, 01:51 PM
^^ you're right there Kilu, I remember. I didn't know we didn't use Nero cover designer anymore back then...:D

Nah, Silver, you better do the cover. I made a concept drawing yesterday, but in my current condition I can't promise to finish a clean drawing, not to mention colouring....
:D I'm not in the most productive mood, and my exam preparations are more important to finish...
and most important, I'd hate to keep you from doing something you were looking forward to :) (and I like your artwork, and I have already done a cover....so many good reasons for you to take the job.

I'll get Ephraim's submission from Zeugma's FTP server...

Don Quixote, Kilu and Yume, you can upload your submissions anytime via AIM...there should be no problem, even if I am absent (which I am quite a lot, I admit)

^^ I hope that covers it....so far for the update, ST officer Elhaym van Houten over & out

:p If I remember well, Bamatone has a sound test account on his server (sound:test), but it's not currently online. I know that Locke Cole has put the ZIP file online but I can't remember what the URL is XD

If you have courage, though, you can browse the whole Sound Test thread (http://www.rpgamers.net/cgi-bin/board/discussion.cgi?forum=10&discussion=553&page=55) on the old forums :D

Those files are long down afaik. From the current mirrors I can only be sure of Bamatone. Other mirrors might have them.

Something came to my mind though... I wonder if Zedie still has that 'previously used songs list' anywhere online?

Thanks for joining, Evil Baz - will it be a Suikoden track? :D

:) And a big thanks for the list, Locke. I didn't have that, either, and was already thinking of redoing it.

Sorry for having been absent for a while - there was a lot going on here.
But now I am back in business, and will keep AIM on as often as possible.

For those new to the Soundtest, maybe get one of the previous releases. I think a few mirrors house them (Bama's maybe?).
That way you'll get a good idea what this wonderful project is like :)

Sorry for the let-down, guys - my last weeks weren't that great.

:) I'm better now, and of course I'll continue coordinating the Sound Test - if you still want me to, that's it, even if I am a bit unreliable at the moment.
Otherwise I can send the submissions I received so far to Mith or Zeugma. No problem with that.

03-10-2005, 02:45 AM

(I didn't want to leave my job as "hostess" anyway, but I would step back if I was holding things up)...
soo, lets keep this thread busy, to remind all those wanna-be-participants to send their submissions in asap ;)

On to the newest update:
I got Kilu's submission, and we're up to 25 minutes....
that leaves still a lot of space, so hurry up and submit.
We're still missing submissions from:
Locke Cole
Evil Baz
Ephraim
Mithrandir
Silver
Yuffie
Don Quixote
Yume
and a few others whom I have forgotten

...
:wonder: ...maybe setting a deadline wouldn't be such a bad idea...
...so:

Submission Deadline for ST Set 7:
8th of April 2005

When were you guy's gonna tell me that I could've used any kind of microphone and not necessarily the one that came with this PC?
I was at the 99.cent store looking for shoe laces and they had microphones right by the batteries. $1.57 with tax. I also bought some gum. The bubble tape. Its rolled up like a measuring tape. That was 50.cents. Grape flavored. They were out of black shoe laces. They only had pink and white laces.
But the microphone worked fine. Now I cant do the comedy routine I planned because I cant get one of my brothers or sisters over because of the fight. Unless I can think of another routine. But that will take time. I will write it out and use it for the summer selection of the sound test.

03-22-2005, 07:48 AM
You can submit it to Elhaym and you don't need to do a cover/acapella yourself, I sent a favorite band's song as my submission with a voice file saying who I am and what the song is.

Kilu
03-22-2005, 10:12 AM
Sigh, as it seems that everyone fails to read any other than the last few posts... Here's a recap of general guidelines.

This set is an open set, which means that everything is allowed. Be it from a game, anime, movie or mainstream, you can submit it if you want. Be it rock, pop, classical, techno, remix, whatever. It's an open set for anything and for everyone. The voicefile is something where you just blab about something, and introduce the song you have submitted. In the final tracklist your submission will follow the voicefile, making the voicefile sort of a spoken introduction. We all do it in English, and even if you are not fluent speaker, don't worry, neither am I. Voicefile is not required, but cool beans if you can cook one up. It makes RPGN more of a community knowing what people sound like and what kind of music they listen to. It's all in good fun. You can get the previous sound test from some of the rpgn mirrors, I believe Bamatone atleast has them, don't know if he is online though. If you can get any of the sets from 2 to the last one (the layout of the first set was a bit different) you can get the general idea pretty well. Also, if a song has been submitted before, you can't resubmit it. Here's (http://www.zeugmaonline.sytes.net/soundTest/soundTest.php) a list of all the previous tests.

Elhaym is the current organizer, so you should get your submission and voicefile to her. Private forum message is a good way to start the transaction.

We are currently in need of intro and outro (hard to describe what these should include, get the previous sets to get a general idea), and Silvers covers are pending. I did mention it in IRC yesterday, I don't know if he saw it or not.

I think that covers most of it, if not all.

Oh my gods....A singing contest is a great idea Darkblack!!!!!!
We could sing a rpg song from a favorite game like the song from kingdom hearts,or a instrumental that we made up words for. I made up some words for some suikoden tunes.
What do you guy's think? Perhaps for a summer soundtest?

Now that i got a microphone im thinking all types of stuff.
Or mabey its this fever from the flu,or the meds :)

Zeugma 440
03-23-2005, 06:56 AM
:D :D a singing contest would be really fun but I don't think we could gather 60 minutes of it :wonder: Even now with 'standard' submissions it's not easy to fill an album... but why not ?

We should give it a try on the next sound test :)

Darkblack
03-23-2005, 07:46 AM
^_^ Look like my misunderstanding makes some use

I don't know about you guys but I myself would have been more interested if this soundtest were a singing contest :D :D :D

Why not give it a try? :)

Kilu
03-23-2005, 12:10 PM
Oh yeah, one more addition to the "guidelines". Don't try to submit something that has already been submitted. Here's (http://www.zeugmaonline.sytes.net/soundTest/soundTest.php) a list of all the previous tests. Maybe I should add this to my earlier post as well.

About singing contest... hmm. Well, I like to think that I'm a decent singer, but I have no balls to actually sing out loud. Maybe me and my brother could make a collaboration or something :D

OK, on to the next update.

First about late submissions - if we still have a few minutes left on the CD after the dealine, you can still submit. If you are fast, your submission will be used on the remaining time of Sound Test 7. If there's no space left, your submission can be used for ST 8.

Submission methods (in preferred order):
DC - I'm usually at vgm.central
AIM - I try to be on as often as possible, please don't mind if I have little timeto chat
e-mail - just attach your song

So, everyone who thinks he/she's late - just give it a try.
Voicefiles get a special reserve ;).

We still need someone for the intro and outro...
come on, any of you guys can do this.

baron
04-08-2005, 02:29 AM

also if you can tell me what to say I can do the intro and outro, professionally if it can wait till the 14th (i.e. through a PA system)
Just something like, "hallo, welcome to the soundtest, the test that test sounds" or whatever. And "that was the soundtest number whatever, have a good one". We have had different kind of intros and outros. So there are no definite rules.

So I had discovered when I talked to elly (I can never remember how to spell your name right) I'm gonna do it on the 14th and have it uploaded or sent by the wee hours of the morning here.

On a side note, It's fun being a sound tech, you get access to all the fancy sound toys.

I've seen her (on DC) two weeks ago and she seemed to be totally allright. But she sounded like she was going to be on AIM more often... Maybe one of us should send a mail to remind her about the Sound Test http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/ponder.gif

Gee guys, I know I'm terrible with my communication -
truth is, the last two weeks I was completely stuffed with work.
I was out of the house 14 hours a day, and this weekend I just needed time to recover.

Two weeks ago I started with my graduation paper. Unfortunately it's not something I can do at home, my prof requires me to be at university all day - just like working a normal job.
Unfortunately, my grandma was moving out of her home at the same time (she's got a room in a home for elderl people). Since my mother has Parkinson's and my father couldn't get that much vacation from work, I helped her packing her things and unpacking them in her new home....
:D boy, she is one of those people who have lived through WW II, and she is hamstering all kinds of stuff because she "might" use it someday...all the talking to her that she doesn't need that much paper tissues, or soaps, or other things anymore (and that certain things aren't usable anymore if they are over 20 years old) was quite exhausting - especially because she is half deaf.

^^ ok, enough complaining - I'm back in business (I think), and now for good...
I am really sorry I am so messy about my communication. It is something I am working at with my therapist (believe it or not, I do the same with my real life friends - not calling for ages and telling them what's up)...gee, it's hard to kill old habits.
Please don't believe I am not interested, or that this is not important to me - it's just that sometimes life seems to swallow me up, and then I want nothing but some time alone, not talking to anyone.

Since I'm already half out of the house and off to university, I'll post the update later today - stay patient til then.

meh, from what I've been told (by Locke) there has yet to be a second soundtest put out on time.

in that case, i hereby set a release deadline of september 26, 2005. (the last deadline was, of course, the submission deadline.)

can you make it 27th ^o^ hehe.

anyway im sure its worth the wait.

oh, heh... i was just setting a deadline months ahead so we have a better chance of getting it done *before* then. =)
see, then we can say we released TWO sound tests on time!

you probably won't have to wait more than a couple weeks.

nah, this is kinda ridiculous. We already have more than half a CD by now. If our beloved Sound Test leader decides to make things move, I think we can finish this album in one month.

When it's ready, it's ready. Take your time, Elhaym. Some things (in fact, many things) are more important than internet cds. :)
