So what exactly did we pick? :D

kaserdan
01-30-2006, 06:13 PM
Instrumental ? Piano/violin ? :D

I'll still root for Instrumental but Piano/violin would be welcome as well.

In the end, I won't submit my first choice. I'll keep it for another ST (they sing just a little bit in it and that wouldn't be appropriate).

Pezito
01-30-2006, 06:31 PM
I guess the theme is : Piano / Violin > Instrumental ≠ Voices ; which would read as "piano and/or violin if you can, instrumental if you prefer, and no singing". Is that it ? :spin:

Ephraim

"piano and/or violin if you can, instrumental if you prefer, and no singing"Does singing with no words count? I've got a lot of music where vocals are background instruments that basically are just vowel sounds with the occasional 'b' or 'd', nice jazz stuff.

I'd say alright !

Kilu

Alrighty, works for me. No singing, probably would be more accurate if no singing with lyrics. :D

Excellent.......... .... ... .

*drums fingers together a la Mr. Burns, and lets out an evil chuckle*

That gives me a few ideas...

So, umm... do we gots us a target date or what? http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/bouncy.gif

lol, that's when things get difficult for people here : everyone gets enthusastic but nobody reacts until someone seriously gets things moving :P

Feel free to take the lead if you want, MojoPin. I think Elly is kinda busy at the moment :wonder:

By the way, I'm also participating in this ST, as usual ;)

kaserdan
02-19-2006, 03:43 PM
Yeah, we depend a lot on Elly, but it doesn't prevent us to discuss the subject.

We already have a good lead on the next set and that's a good start ! We all know Elly has a lot on her shoulders with university and all. But let's poke her a little ! http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/cat.gif

Hey Elly ! Put a post in here ! Anything ! http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/wink.gif

Zeugma 440

I don't think we should rely too much on someone who's entering active life... and I know what I'm saying : I'm myself on the verge of doing the same, and as you have noticed, I'm posting way less often than before because I'm becoming interested in other stuff, and I tend to be more and more busy with real life people and activities.

I really mean no offense to Elly (you know we all love you :)) but I'd like the Sound Test to go on without depending on someone who doesn't have time for it.

Thus I suggest that MojoPin takes the lead if she's still enthusiast :D -or anyone else here who feels like managing the ST : just express yourself-

kaserdan
03-03-2006, 11:00 AM
Yeah but Elly told us many times that she really likes to manage the projects.

Anyway, if she agrees to pass the job to someone else, I guess it would be alright.

Locke
03-03-2006, 11:32 AM
I've thought about putting my name in to manage one down the road, but I'm gonna wait till I have internet at home before I start pushing for that. Plus this set isn't music I can really put anything good in for, so meh.

Kilu
03-03-2006, 06:04 PM
I have nothing againts (temporarily) changing the manager of the project. All I care is that the project stays alive and active. Afterall, I'm sure that if Zedie were to return the manager position would be automatically his if he would choose the want it back.

kaserdan
03-03-2006, 06:27 PM
haha ! Not that I don't like Elly's work but I would certainly hope it'd happen one day ! For old times' sake ! They could work together ;)

Well, we could name a Set master everytime we start a new project. Could be great to experience that at least once.

Pezito
03-04-2006, 08:46 AM
That's not a bad idea (naming a different set master each time)... :) I don't think Elly would blame us, probably the most important for her is - as it is for us - to be able to participate to Sound Tests, even if that's not through managing the whole thing. :3

Now the problem is : how can we name someone if nobody steps forward ?! http://pezito.free.fr/Bazar/GIFs/FaceSick2.gif

Kilu
03-04-2006, 06:19 PM
I think I remember Baron talking that he could make a set happen at some point, and he did provide the ftp for the last test as well. So if Baron is still up for it, he is my candidate. :D

MojoPin
03-07-2006, 04:02 AM
Thus I suggest that MojoPin takes the lead if she's still enthusiast :D -or anyone else here who feels like managing the ST : just express yourself-
Oh! LOL I'm still enthusiastic but seeing how it's the first ST I'm even participating in, I really don't feel like I ought to be helming anything at this point. I might be game for it at some point later, though... :D

baron
03-07-2006, 02:43 PM
I can put one together, it just won't start happening until after I move

Pezito
03-07-2006, 07:20 PM
Aaannnd... when will you move ? :D

baron
03-08-2006, 12:45 AM
23 days (March 31st 2006)

It'll be about a week and a half before I'm back online.

Pezito
03-08-2006, 04:44 AM
Ok then. :) Everyone, get ready ! We have 23 days to find something to submit ! ^^ It's not like we can't do it on our own, during this time... So when Baron comes back, we'll all be ready to upload and the Sound Test may - for a change - be quite quick to complete. :spin:

Zeugma 440
03-08-2006, 04:51 AM
Kewl ! So the theme is Instrumental -non-synthetic- music with at most 10 performers, right ?

If so, I should have a ton of good things to submit :) I'll pick one of these before the deadline. Can we use the same FTP as before, Baron ?

Pezito
03-08-2006, 01:20 PM
That's a weird theme. (°_°) I know that's basically what came out of the discussions here, but it looks blurry and I'm afraid this theme won't succeed in grouping all submissions under one flag, as is... Or am I being too cautious ?

Ephraim
03-08-2006, 02:13 PM
Wait, I don't remember that "non-synthetic" part being in there... all the stuff I was thinking of submitting has at least a few synthetic instruments mixed with real ones.

baron
03-08-2006, 05:07 PM
nor do I remember non synthetic Instremunts being disallowed, as I read it, It's an instramenal set.

Also I'll have the ftp cleared of the last one and ready for new submissions.

Who would like to do cover art this time?

Zeugma 440
03-09-2006, 05:16 AM
 I did that on purpose to show how unclear the theme was :D Let's keep it just instrumental, everyone should be able to find a good track ;)

Pezito
03-10-2006, 05:22 AM
XD

Ok, seems fine to me. :)

MojoPin
04-27-2006, 01:08 AM

Zeugma 440
04-27-2006, 06:53 AM
Now I think you understand why we need a sound test coordinator http://rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biglaugh.gif

Kilu
04-27-2006, 08:01 AM
Hehe. Well, who has time and is willing to take the job?

Locke
05-01-2006, 11:00 AM
What's the extent of coordination that needs to be done? I have the time, but I don't have internet at home. I could probly do it out of Lance's place though, because he lives about 1 minute from my front door, so I might be able to do it. What's required to coordinate a sound test?

baron
05-02-2006, 12:29 AM
I can still co-ordinate it, I was without internet for 3 weeks as I stated nearly a month ago.

Zeugma 440
05-02-2006, 05:10 AM
Locke> here's a brief list of what a coordinator should do (imo)

- deciding deadlines
- deciding who will design the cover
- contacting people (by PM, mail, IM...) who haven't submitted their track when the deadline approaches
- gathering everyone's submissions, retagging the files is needed (at least adding a "submitter" info)
- building the tracklist
- choosing (or asking for) filler songs when there's extra time left on the CD :D
- choosing a reliable means of making the Sound Test available for all members when it is released

Of course it's better if you have internet on your own PC http://rpgamers.info/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Locke
05-02-2006, 10:30 AM
I will have internet on my PC in about 2 weeks, and could coordinate it then, but that depends if people would like for me to do it. I don't mind, and think it would be fun, but I'll be doing it from a remote location until I get my own internet. I'm sure I could do it if people would like me to, anyways.

Locke
05-05-2006, 10:06 AM
Actually, in hindsight I could base it out of Lance's and Skikkles, so I could probly coordinate this ST if anybody wants. Or Baron could, it doesn't really matter to me. I think it's high time we got this one on the go :p

baron
05-05-2006, 02:11 PM
well the ftp is up for submissions anyways. How about a comprimise, I'll work on some aspects and Locke can work on others.

Locke
05-05-2006, 02:14 PM
A co-op coordination. I like it and I'm game.

So what's the theme we're working with, and who all is in for submissions?

Pezito
05-06-2006, 12:38 PM
Well, the theme... seems to be instrumental (so that's quite a large theme)... And you can count me in. ^^

Lance Alvein
05-06-2006, 02:42 PM
If I can get my computer working well enough, I may try to submit some instrumental music, but I probably won't have a working computer until after this sound test is over :wall:

Galthol
05-06-2006, 10:02 PM
I have an idea of what I'd like to submit, count me in!

baron
05-08-2006, 01:55 AM
I would recommend for a deadline Jun 15th, due to the fact that sound test 10 is scheduled for first week of september (now who knows why mwahahaha)

I can cover the submissions, retags, and track list as well as distribution. Locke, how about you cover the cover design, the contact list, and the filler songs.

Locke
05-08-2006, 03:53 PM
Sure thing. Those that are submitting tracks, please send me an email to rpgnsoundtest10@musician.org (rpgnsoundtest10@musician.org) . That should be a good start. Now to track down someone to do up the cover art (or to sit down and do it myself... hmmmm :wonder: :p)

As to filler songs... we'll work on that. June 15th for submissions should be fine. I can work with that.

Admin
05-09-2006, 12:12 PM
Just a side note from your friendly RPGN administrator ;) OMG He speaks!

I will be doing the arrangements for Sound Test 10, if thats alright with everyone. Just waiting for 9 to be sorted out. As many of you know, September 5th 2006 marks RPGN's 10th year anniversary, and we are going to launch ST10 along side it. So hopefully 9 is organized by then ;)

*vanishes back into the unknown*

baron
05-09-2006, 12:17 PM
http://www.outerregion.net/downloads/soundtest/ftpinfo.txt for the submissions. I will remove files from that section once everyother day to keep things a surprise.

Locke
05-09-2006, 12:35 PM
Yeah.... I dunno why I put 10 instead of 9... but meh, what's done is done. Anyways, send an email to there if you want in, we'll use that to set up the email list for updates and whatnot.

eViL bAz
05-09-2006, 04:35 PM

SeymourGuado
05-09-2006, 10:32 PM
Alright I might give this barmy idea a try....no voice submission though, crap microphone at the minute....is that ok? I just scanned seems you have a theme thing going on?

I can only post certain type of music at the minute?

Locke
05-10-2006, 12:47 PM
All instrumental no voice I believe (or, no words, if memory serves)...

If anyones interested in participating in the ST, send an email to rpgnsoundtest10@musician.org. I'll get the distribution list for updates going from there.

eViL bAz
05-10-2006, 03:22 PM
ok thanks Locke my friend.

SeymourGuado
05-10-2006, 05:35 PM
Thats a pity I have a nice choice here but right at the end there is vocals. Am i allowed to send it if i cut them out?

Locke
05-11-2006, 12:21 PM
Is it an instrumental piece? If so, then I don't see why not.

Kilu
05-11-2006, 12:56 PM
I don't think that's a good idea. If you just cut them out atleast. Also, what kind of vocal, I think some people agreed that choirs are okay, but lead vocals are not. But was there concescus? At some point I thought there was an agreement to limit the instruments too (eg, no symphony orchestras for example), but was that final?

Locke
05-11-2006, 01:09 PM
I'll go with Kilu's judgement then, as I'm still in the learning curve of these soundtest things. Please elaborate on what the vocals are, it might be fine....

I think the agreement was no vocal words, but sounds were ok...

"Alrighty, works for me. No singing, probably would be more accurate if no singing with lyrics."

That's a quote from you Kilu, just figured I should dig that out and edit in the post so everybody knows the rules.

SeymourGuado
05-11-2006, 05:35 PM
well right ath the end it keeps repeating "life isnt everything" ;) and u prob know what the song is

baron
05-11-2006, 05:59 PM
I can remix your song so that it ends with a fade instead of abruptly (as in just cut).

Also, who would like to do the intro and outro?

SeymourGuado
05-11-2006, 06:53 PM
I can also add fade out;) and I will if I am allowed to send it?

baron
05-11-2006, 11:32 PM
I personally don't see an issue with it.

Locke
05-12-2006, 09:05 AM
Me neither, feel free to send it in I guess :)

SeymourGuado
05-12-2006, 09:50 AM

Just because I say so doesn't mean it's agreed on. :p Anyway, I'm still against editing songs to fit the theme, no matter how small edit it is. I personally would just save it for an open submission test.

But oh well. If the managers say it's okay, I guess it's okay. We never did make very solid rules about these things anyway.

Hi guys and girls,

am I glad you decided to continue without me :).
I really felt bad about not being able to invest the time to manage ST 9, not even after -successfully- completing my master's thesis. There was so much to do...:D as always.

:) Anyways, I'll manage to make a submission. I have a lovely piano theme in mind...
I'm a bit too lazy to search for the submission guidelines - maybe someone can write them up and mail them round?

Locke
05-12-2006, 12:08 PM
We possibly could lay some out, but meh, we're on a rather tight time schedule to get this one done in time for Locke Cole to do ST10, so I think we can let it slide for now. In the future, however, we could establish some ground rules for the sound tests I suppose.

Elhaym van Houten
05-12-2006, 12:16 PM
I was looking for some guidance as to which piano/violin songs are allowed, and if the song may contain some other instruments, and such...

I lost track of the theme and it's restrictions on choices.

So far I've gotten Ephraim's email and nobody else's, so it might be a week or two before I get the full list of updates for the ST, but make sure the emails come in :D. (and I know it's ST9, but for some reason 10 looked better in my head so I went with that. Meh)

Elhaym van Houten
05-12-2006, 12:33 PM
Already done that.
Maybe sending a reminder notice round might help to activate the other participants?

I got two songs on my mind, one with a great violin (more of a fiddle, actually), but with *inarticulate* singing,
and one from a nice, lesser known VGM arrangement....
should I look for something else?

Locke
05-12-2006, 03:12 PM
I'll give them till the 15, then I'll start hounding people to start preparing their submissions :)

Elhaym van Houten
05-13-2006, 12:48 PM
Nope. Either one is fine !:) Then I'll send in both, second as an alternative choice.
I'm not sure I'll manage a voicefile, though....at the moment I'm spending most of my time working six days the week. But I'll see what I can do.

Actually to be honest if someone could give me the vague rules i'd be happier...I dont know whether mainstream songs are allowed etc etc?
The vague rules are... we don't really have rules (which can sometimes be a problem). :p In open sets, anything goes, as long as it qualifies as music. In themed sets, anything that fits in the theme goes.

However, eventhough we don't have a rule regarding song lenght, don't go crazy. :D I think Kyari holds the record on the longest song right now. Also remember not to submit anything that has appeared in an earlier test. List of previous tests is here (http://www.zeugmaonline.sytes.net/soundTest/soundTest.php). I think I'll edit the first post right now to include some of the basic stuff.

kaserdan

The way I see it is :

Instrumental
voice allowed, but no singing.

clear enough ?

It's generally one song per person, but sometimes there might be room for alternatives. Star with one, and keep the second one in reserve.

I've submitted my track + voicefile earlier this week.

There are so many worthy ones, it's been quite hard to choose. However, the one I've picked comes from the heart; it couldn't have been better :)

kaserdan
05-19-2006, 05:08 PM
I worked on a second voicefile and decided to submit 2 musics. Hope there will be enough space for my 4 files... It's the first time I submit a second choice, but let's say its presentation is worth the shot ;) (not that much but hey, i still hope it'll make it ^-^)

If they take someone else's spot, you gotta remove them though.

Kilu

I have no idea what to submit. I mean, there are just too many good songs to pick from.

If you want an example of good voicefiles, Pezito is notoriously good at making them.

~KiluWooowww... I'm notorious now ! Thank you, Kilu ! :tophat:

By the way, I just thought I'd mention : after Lance Alvein's request, I've made new torrents for the first six Sound Tests and am currently seeding them. Feel free to add/update the URLs in this topic's front post. :)

Hey Pez, why don't you think of an intro/outro for this set ? You never did it in the former sets !

I don't want to do it because I already submitted 2 voicefiles. I don't want to stand out more than that http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/ponder.gif

Yup, come on guys !!! I know you're many more who read this thread, than who post in it actually. So just give it a try, submit a track ! :) Heh, I think I'll drop a note in other sections of the forum, maybe it'll help. :p

Anyway, I'll try to submit my song(s) and voice file(s) tomorrow or on friday ; as for the intro/outro, I think it may be better if I know the playlist before I record them... So maybe I should wait for ST9 to be complete, then do the intro/outro ?

*lurk lurk*

Howdy folks! I'm going to submit to this test, just preparing the voice file. Should have it all posted up tonight. ^^; Long live soundtests!

On a side note -- Site revival is in full swing. FMV servers are all back up, and the site has been moved to Lintbox/PHP. You may notice that the forums are also now on the same site. :) Lots of work to do, so I shall vanish now.... *poof!*

The current sound test can now be heard by all RPGN visitors! The latest sound test will always be available for instant streaming using the new music frame on the menu of the main site. Currently sound test 8 is in place. Hopefully this will attract some new faces here, as I've also linked to the project. :)

Keep up the good work folks!

Zeugma I think..wow where is he from:) edit: ahh France, cool

Still hoping to hear the rest of you, I will submit a voice file for sound test 10 :) Promise.

hmmm....who submitted Masato's "sweet sweet sweet" "sweet dreams" aka "sonic 2 ending" on Sound Test 8? btw

Wow, no developments for months then I go away for a couple of weeks and boom! Sound test in progress! http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biglaugh.gif

Well, unfortunately I'm going away again for a bit but I'll try to get at least a couple of tracks in before I do. My main choice just has my username on it and then I'll include a couple of others (as alt1, alt2, etc.) in case you need more to "fill up the corners." But I guess I'll have to wait to hear the whole sound test when I get back. :/

PS - Sorry I didn't do a voicefile, but I don't have the time or the equipment for it right now.

Talk about bad timing...

I wait until the last minute to submit, and my network card fries. Now my submission has to go through like 10 more steps (including building another computer from spare parts lying around) just to use the internet, let alone submit a song!

Never fear, though. My submission will be forthcoming! You may count on it. :D

I tried twice to contact baron by IRC. He seems to be ignoring any requests for the sound test progression. As of Sound Test 10, I will be taking control of submissions, we will work on an easier submission system, by http form upload or email. Laban and I (Locke) are both full administrators here now, and can work together to keep the sound tests moving forward steadily. I was really hoping to release ST10 with our 10th anniversary celebrations, but it looks like that goal is now out of reach.

If we do not have progress from baron in the next few days, I am going to request that the ST9 submissions be posted to myself, and we will try to piece this project together and get back in the flow of things.

Just a small note: If you care about correct tags and filenames, I'll be posting a small list of mistakes that remained, and you can fix them if you so choose. Just remember that if you change the filename of the file, the included playlist will not find the file anymore. Thankfully the files are also numbered, so you don't really need the playlist anyway. :p

Kilu
08-25-2006, 06:07 AM
Everything that I put in here is to keep the tagging consistant as well as correct. Basically, if something was missing or wrong and I noticed it, here's how it should be. Take note that each song title has a the submitter in brackets after it, but none of the voicefiles should have this, because the submitter is also the artist in these. Yes, I'm anal about this stuff. :D Same goes for the comment "submitted by". This should probably be removed from the voicefiles. xD Next one to misspell Zeugma I'll personally hunt down and make them eat their fingers. :D

05. Title: The Legend of Zelda Medley (Evil Baz) (added a space between Medley(Evil Baz) :p also, does capitalization matter to you baz? As in, eViL bAz or Evil Baz?)
07. Title: Korobushka (Kaserdan) ( http://bob.lintbox.net/files/born.jpg compare the a's and o's if you don't believe me :p )
09. Artist: Keiji Kawamori, Composer: Nobuo Uematsu & Keiji Kawamori
13. Artist: Spyro Gyra, Title: Old San Juan (Padge) (Incognito is the album name)
14. Title: Ruika intro (removed the (Pezito), because artist is already Pezito, no other voicefile has the submitter in the title like that)
16. Artist: Elton John
17. Artist: Zeugma (also removed the Comment field, because of course it's submitted by Zeugma, it's his voicefile :p )
18. Comment: Submitted by Zeugma

Also, I already started to write my review of this, couple songs in particular didn't take a long time to form an opinion of them, but I'l submit it later.

I said I would submit mine, don't be in such a hurry ;)

01 - Intro
---
It's great to hear you again Pez ! It's a smooth job you've done here, as expected ;)

02 - Band of Brothers Suite Two
---
Ahh, epic syphonic music, just as I love it ! Michael Kamen is a great name of the soundtrack scene, but I don't know much about his works. Band of Brothers sounds like something worth starting with :P

03 - Mission:Impossible Theme
---
Muhuhaha ! Michael Giacchino's finally scoring the original theme after having fiddled with it on "The Incredibles". Short and cool :)

04 - Playing Love
---
The first piano track of the set ! Despite it vivid start, it quickly becomes very soothing. The performance is delicate, passionate when it's needed. After a couple of listens, the whole piece of music appears very touching to me, as its title suggests.

05 - The Legend of Zelda Medley
---
Good job on the tracks ordering ! Putting a strings-only piece of music just after a piano solo sounds neat !
Eb provides us with a medley that uses the full power of expression of violins to render the good old Zelda classics that we all should know ;)

06 - Kaserdan presents Bond
---
Whoa ! You definitely have the best voicefile of the whole set ! I already kinda knew the band, but now your intro really makes me want to listen to more Bond :amazed: Cheers !!!

07 - Korobushka
---
Violin goodness once again ! I love how that track builds up, as well as its Slavonic feel. I agree, it's way more impressive than the techno-ish track you wanted to submit in the first place. Awesome.

08 - Enemy Within
---
Heh, that ominous electro/rock track could almost be from Perfect Dark Zero :P Cool !

09 - The Chase of Highway
---
Good track ordering once again, it's almost seamless !
Here we have one of the best parts of Advent Children : a totally new composition featuring heavy metal action and a couple of well-placed chorals. On top of that, the Turks' theme makes a small appearance near the end, flavouring the whole track with gaming memories and illustrating a cool scene from the movie :) Very nice pick, Lance !

10 - Whirlpool of Love - The Last Stand
---
We should come back to our senses after the previous track to enjoy a full symphonic piece of music. This one is very rich, emotionally-speaking : we're guided through wonderment, hope, sorrow and action to finally end on a great epic theme.

11 - La Valse d'Amélie
---
Our 2nd piano track, "Amelie's Waltz", is an emotion-laden, fast-paced piano duet. I really like the final part, when the 2nd piano comes back. The end is short and bittersweet - but probably closer to reality than "traditional" waltz are :)

12 - Voice Over Limelight
---
Heya Padge ! I don't think I've even seen you on the boards, you must be an IRC guy :P Anyway, welcome to the Sound test :D Cool background music by the way ;)

13 - Old San Juan
---
Ohh, I love that one ! That reminds me a lot of a certain ending theme, but I have no idea where I heard it :S The bassline and drums provide a latino rythm while the rest of the instruments relay each other to improvize over the main theme. The sax and the brass make it a little retro, like in those 70's american movies, but hey, it's brilliant ! I'm looking forward to hearing your submissions in the future, Padge :D

14 - Ruika Intro
---
Damn, Pez, you should have sung along in Japanese if your BGM really is an Utada Hikaru instrumental version ;)

15 - Ruika
---
Ohh, these are the kind of gems I've been hesitating over to make my subission. Traditional pieces like this one have always a refreshing effect on me :)

16 - Song for Guy
---
Hmmm, another instant classic, this time by Elton John. Now who doesn't like this one ? :)

17 - Too Great to be Overlooked
---
That makes 4 piano tracks over 19. Okay, I was wrong ^^

18 - Iron Mining Town ~ Gia
---
:)

19 - ST9 outro
---
*hugs Pezito* Woohoo, another fellow who sucks at driving ! Now that reminds me I have to sit for my 2nd license exam next Friday. I hope I won't do anything stupid like last time XD

Well, in general that ST was a very good surprise : actually I didn't expect as many good tracks ! My personal fav among them is Old San Juan :spin: Too bad most of you didn't have time to submit a voicefile -we all miss yours Elly :( -

Nope. I don't think anyone wants to hurry the next set just because of birthday. Plus, Locke (he's supposed to put the 10th one together I think) is sick right now, so that's one setback as well.

The RPGN Birthday is today, so I don't think we can make it! ;)Alas indeed, we were squeezed for time and didn't make the deadline, but that doesn't mean we dont plan to make ST10 extra special! It will still be released during the 10th year of the site, and we're going to try to make it the best sound test yet :D

01. Pezito, with Passion http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif - ST9 Intro (1:19)
Very well done Pez ! You're so good with your mixer man ! I envy you http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I love the part where we all argue !! hahaha !

02. London Metropolitan Orchestra - Band of Brothers Suite Two (Bamatone) (9:15)
If you have 9 minutes to spare, this one is magnificent.
My brother was looking for good instrumental tracks for his AD&D games.
He'll drool on that one !

03. Michael Giacchino - Mission: Impossible Theme (Baron) (0:51)
Never was a fan, but you know, the DVDs are coming out soon http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/wink.gif

04. Ennio Morricone - Playing Love (Elhaym Van Houten) (3:05)
The first seconds remind me of Masashi Hamauzu's style. The rest of the music is calm and very relaxing.
I'm not often in the mood to relax with this kind of music, but you know, it actually HAPPEN from time to time.
I'll treasure this one.

05. Koji Kondo - The Legend of Zelda Medley(Evil Baz) (4:43)
Puuuuuure goodness. I've never been a huge fan of Nintendo or their games, but some Zelda musics are worthwile.
This remix is so well done it brings a tear to the eye !
I'd have added Hyrule's theme in the mix to make it perfect :P

06. Kaserdan - Kaserdan presents Bond (2:06)
I had another voicefile ready.
In that second file, I was asking for permission to the "God of Selection" to submit a second track.
Pretty ironic it didn't make it he ? http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Here's the file for you curious readers
http://www.geocities.com/kaserdan/GodofSelection.mp3 (http://www.geocities.com/kaserdan/GodofSelection.mp3)

07. Bond - Korobushko (Kaserdan) (4:48)
Yup. I read "Korobushka" on the back side of their album alright !
Pretty odd every sites I browse show an "o".
I don't have many "non-game" albums, but I never skip a single track while listening to this one. It's simply amazing.

08. Magyar Posse - Enemy Within (Kilu) (3:12)
Not as appealing as the other tracks, but it stands out.

09. The Chase of Highway (Lance Alvein) (4:34)
I watched the movie when it came out on DVD (God was I patient !)
I still don't understand the people who don't acknowledge Nobuo's work.
Did you listen to that guy on the special features of the DVD ?
I love when he says "What ? Cloud smiles in that movie ? Oooooh that's bound to be good !"

10. John Powell - Whirlpool of Love - The Last Stand (Mithrandir) (5:16)
Another well rendered orchestral music. This one will make it to the AD&D games too !! http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/wink.gif
Thanks Mith !

11. Yann Tiersen - La Valse d'Amélie (MojoPin) (2:38)
This one has a sad feeling to it.
It's one of my favorite of the set. The melody is extraordinary... It's shivering !
Thank you as well Mojopin http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif

12. Padge - Voice Over Limelight (1:07)
Man, I'd like to be as good as that speakin' english >_<
Thanks to let us hear you Padge ! Very well done file at that !
Hope we'll hear you again on 10 !

13. Incognito - Old San Juan (6:38)
I like the Whistling at the beginning. Always a winner to add some melancoly http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif
This one's awesome too http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm looking forward to listen to it while traveling.
My favorite part is at 3:59 - 4:30 (I feel calm at that point)
Very good piano starting at 3:10 too.

14. Pezito, with Colors http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif - Ruika intro (Pezito) (1:09)
*nod nod* fine background music indeed ! I'll look for that name.

15. Kunihiko Ryo - Ruika (Pezito) (1:54)
I know 12 kingdoms by the name. My roomate watched the serie and liked it. Didn't get the chance myself.
As for its music, hey it's not bad at all ! It's not long, but the first half offers the best of it.

16. Seifer Almasy - Song For Guy (Seifer Almasy) (5:12)
Another very calm melody which will be added to Elly's submission.
Not bad, but not specifically standing out.

17. Zeguma - Too great to be overlooked (Iron Mining Town Intro) (0:40)
Another regular. Glad you're still with us Frenchie fellow :P
Ah ! And good review as well !

18. Sound Team jdk - Iron Mining Town ~ Gia (4:12)
Another jazzy track. Very nice though !
I love fast piano http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif

19. Pezito, Easy Driver http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif - ST9 Outro (1:38)
Faaashion. Very good outro French guy. Don't quit either ! http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/smile.gif
A big round yellow chick huh ? hahaha !

for 10, I would like to make a suggestion, Double Disk! I had enough submissions to do a second disk of the second choices and I thought aiming for double disk might not be a bad idea.

07. Bond - Korobushko (Kaserdan) (4:48)
Yup. I read "Korobushka" on the back side of their album alright !
Pretty odd every sites I browse show an "o".
It's an easy mistake considering the font they used. A bad scan of the cover and it's pretty hard to tell the difference between a and o.

01. Pezito, with Passion :) - ST9 Intro
Yeah, fighting over themes is always fun. :D

02. Michael Kamen - Band of Brothers Suite Two (BAMAToNE)
This is very nice. In all honesty, I've never heard of Michael Kamen before, but now I definitely now that he is pretty good.

03. Michael Giacchino - Mission Impossible Theme (Baron)
Michael Giacchino always rocks. Good choice.

04. Ennio Morricone - Playing Love (Elhaym Van Houten)
Same with Ennio Morricone. :D From his pretty vast catalog, this is a very good choice.

05. Koji Kondo - The Legend of Zelda Medley (eViL bAz)
I like this, but can't for the life of me pinpoint the origin of this. Maybe there isn't one. :o

06. Kaserdan - Kaserdan presents Bond
I'm glad that you didn't pick the techno piece. :p I've never thought that violing and techno ala Vanessa Mae do fit together at all.

07. Bond - Korobushka (Kaserdan)
Well, the original Russian folk song isn't too bad, and they didn't destroy it with techno or anything like that, so it's pretty decent all things considered. Pretty good playing too. :)

08. Magyar Posse - Enemy Within (Kilu)
Good choice. >.> Oh wait. Of course it is. :p I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in myself. This is the first soundtest that I don't have a voicefile. But Magyar Posse is awesome. If you are interested, this was my alternate submission (http://bob.lintbox.net/files/06%20Pallar%20Anders%20Visa.mp3) if there had been extra space.

09. Keiji Kawamori - The Chase of Highway (Lance Alvein)
This is okayish. Advent Children Soundtrack was mostly a miss for me. I should also note that this is indeed Keiji Kawamori track for the most part, as far as I know (and everyone knows that I know ;) ) Uematsu is credited as composer only because of the Turk theme (arranged by Kawamori too).

10. John Powell - Whirlpool of Love ~ The Last Stand (Mithrandir)
Very nice. This reminds me of some of Danny Elfman's works. And it's a nice comparison on all standards. I haven't heard much from John Powell out of Bourne movies before, but now I just may have to.

11. Yann Tiersen - La Valse d'Amélie (MojoPin)
Probably my favourite of the set. Infact, Amelie soundtrack is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time.

12. Padge - Voice Over Limelight
The mysterious Padge that so few have seen anywhere. :D

13. Spyro Gyra - Old San Juan (Padge)
Very nice song as well. Not something I'd listen a lot, but it works for me regardless.

14. Pezito, with Colors :) - Ruika intro
Lots and lots and voicefiles! xD

15. Ryo Kunihiko - Ruika (Pezito)
This works, as long as you haven't heard this track (http://bob.lintbox.net/files/15 Desolation.mp3). If you don't know what I mean, they both use the same stock melodies from a commercial instrument pack. So all in all, very cheap track.

16. Elton John - Song For Guy (Seifer Almasy)
Elton has a lot of better songs, this is rather dull, and a bit too long as well. Though of course given the theme of the set, don't know how well his works in general fit with the instrumental. That is to say that I really don't know, not too familiar with his works.

17. Zeugma - Too great to be overlooked (Iron Mining Town Intro)
ZEGUMA!

18. Sound Team JDK - Iron Mining Town ~ Gia (Zeugma)
Sound Team JDK is always pretty awesome. Aside from this song and the album it's from, everyone should have the Zwei Soundtrack and the Arrange Album too.

19. Pezito, Easy Driver :) - ST9 Outro
This
is
crazy!

After moving to another city, I finally got internet access - and SoundTest Set 9 :) Yay!!!
I'm still listening through it - you'll get my review soon. So far I like it a lot - very different styles of instrumental music, and great voicefiles.

Thumps up for all who participated!

From what I can see Uematsu ha ddirect involvement with Advent Children. Although some were remixes or piano arangemnets, he had direct involvement with them too.

The main music was done by Uematsu, as well as the one winged angel rearrangement. I have the official DVD where Uematsu explains his feelings on making the advent soundtrack. (unless below you are referring to another piece, advent is a Uematsu soundtrack)

Even if Uemstsu did nothing on the soundtrack, it would still have to credit him, since almost every tune is an Uematsu composition in arrangement.

WIKI also states that he did the OST completely..and is credited as such

:)

I don't think there is any deadlines for submission yet, even. I should maybe slap Locke around a bit to make him do something. :p He has plans for a theme, as suggested in his post somewhere earlier by his hint, but who knows how well will that go. :D

I must admit that I do not come often on this forum and that I discovered the ST concept just this morning, when I got an automatic email with a little something about it.

Despite having read the first post, I still wonder if I have well understood what precisely the project consists in : people submit a song/music following a theme, with a little speech if possible, and RPGN members make an album with these submissions. Is it just that ?

For ST10, which seems to have started, what is the theme ? Does Kilu's "open theme" means there is no real theme, or that the theme will be chosen when we will already have a few submissions ?

By the way, I can help with the pictures if needed. I have recently learnt to like doing this kind of things. Here's a cover I made a few weeks ago, upon rediscovering a compilation I had made looong ago :

http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_front_1_m.jpg (http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_front_1.jpg)

http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_front_2_m.jpg (http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_front_2.jpg)

http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_back_m.jpg (http://celerii.free.fr/_public/blog/OGTC/OGTC_back.jpg)

Funny... now it reminds me of my RHUA series project, which (roughly) consists in selecting VGM tunes and mixing them in order to (try to) tell some sort of story... The people I made it listen to usually like it, even if they all come with a different story in the end ;) Maybe I should make a thread about it someday...

Yep, basically. We compile a collection of music and (possible) soundbytes with album covers and everything. As far as the theme, Open is indeed open in a way that all kinds of music is allowed in. I rewrote parts on the first post just now to clarify it a bit. :) ST9 is still available from the link in that first post, listening to it probably clears any confusion there might still be. :D

As for album art, silverDistortioN has dibs on that one. I think.

Celeri: Very nice covers! Maybe we won't wait so long to do ST 11 and we'll use you for that. :D

Celeri
03-01-2008, 02:46 PM
All right, I've sent my own submission (folder named "Celeri"). The voice and music are mixed into a single MP3 of 9 minutes, I hope this will not be too long (if yes, I can shorten the music by removing redundant passages).

Because my english is not ultimate (hahem...), I've also put a text file with my whole speech, along with the song's lyrics.

'Tis my first submission for RPGN-ST, done in a few hours with resources on hand, so I hope you will find it good.

By the way, I really liked ST9, especially since I love instrumental music. That's the main reason I decided to take part int STX.

Kilu
03-01-2008, 03:47 PM
Mixed together? I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I would personally prefer separate files. :wonder:

Anyways, I haven't decided what to submit yet. Open themes are too difficult, so many choices!

Celeri
03-01-2008, 04:07 PM
When I say "mixed together", I may be a little awkward : this just means that the music follows the voice part but within a single file... if it's not good either way, let me know, I will make separate files.

BAMAToNE
03-02-2008, 01:20 AM
Well, I think what Kilu means is that if we really like the song, we will want to go back and listen to it again but we probably won't want to listen to the narration in front. :b

So it'd be better if they were separate files. But I won't make you!

Celeri
03-02-2008, 02:13 AM

Crossposting my reply to Locke in another thread:
All I need to do is record my voice file, perhaps pick out one more song, and get the artwork from whoever it was who said he'd do it. (Can't remember now!) It woulda been a nice idea to have it launch concurrently with the new site, but alas, I didn't have the idea until maybe one or two days before. No way I could do it before I went home for Christmas. Now I'm here until Jan. 5. So the target release date will be perhaps that second week of Jan.

(Now that I think about it, whoever it was doing the artwork can't do the back page with the track list until I supply him with one. So speak up and let me know!)

BAMAToNE
05-01-2009, 01:15 PM
Copying here...

Ok, ok! I "finalized" the track list last night and did all the mp3 tagging. Sent the info to Silver so he could start working on the covers. But then he decided he wanted to submit a song, too. So now whenever he chooses one, I get to slide it into the playlist somewhere.

So now it's on Silver!

I've posted a news about it to the main site, and updated the first post of the thread as well. Everyone go download it from the tracker! Locke will be posting a direct download link sometime later after he gets off from work, so if you can't or don't know how to use torrents, you'll have to wait a bit.

It's a good selection. Really liked the Dylan track and the John Mayer Trio performance. Sadly Baz submitted a song I can't stand so I had to bypass that one. >_<
I also lolled at the Tower of Power intermissions. Highly amusing, especially Chocobo.
Some good voice files too (I'm looking at everyone except Silver here. ¬¬). Anyone else think Kilu sounded sinister? :P

If anyone is curious about more Fanatic Tower of Power, I set up an ftop archive (http://beerlake.net/dump/ftop/) just for you guys. I probably like the crazy old man song the best. :p

Oh, and I don't sound sinister!
