Back for another update...
I think we got ourselves a cover - Silver sent me something nice, and even though it wasn't designed to be our cover, I think it is perfect....
Other than that - about deadlines...
you know, the submission deadline was just set for one single purpose:
to get some of you to submit something.
And it was very effective indeed - about 1/2 of the submissions came in during the last 2 weeks til the deadline ;)
So yes, I'll take my time, and we are in no hurry - there's still some space left, and I hope a few submissions will reach me in time.
Otherwise we'll call for alternates, submissions on-behalf-of-..., funny things or something like that.
For everyone who still wants to submit something - best deals to meet me in AIM are the weekends - I got some sort of a fulltime-job with my graduation paper (ok, I'm doing an MEG study, so there was nothing less to expect)
Of course ther are still other possibilities...I think the most reliable one might be Baron. Please contact him for details.
I'll be in Madrid from the 8th to the 13th...and I hope after that we have enough material to fill a whole CD, not just 4/5. Then I can mail Silver the playlist, and he can integrate it into the cover...
we might just finsih this til the midst of May.

Problem is, work is closing in at university - I missed a whole week, and have to prepare a talk for next Monday....:(
^^ I used my time this weekend to get ST 7 in an almost final form.
I still take submissions - there's enough space for one song, or a few voicefiles ;).
I hope we can release it this week - I'm speculating on the weekend...
so keep your fingers crossed ;)

Well, I can finally and happily announce the release of Sound Test Set 7 - Be Cool....right now I'm uploading it to Zeugma's, and after that maybe to Bama?
It's my birthday present to you guys. :)
The cover and the name are still temps - I didn't reach Silver in time, and I didn't want to keep you waiting any longer. So I took his art and made a cover out of it. Please don't print it yet - maybe he wants to change it.
I also took the liberty to work on a few voicefiles, filtering out the noise or making them louder. If anyone feels intimidated, they can tell me and I'll release the original versions.
I'm really sorry it did take so long - I only hope you're happy with the result. If you guys want to, we can have Baron coordinate the next Set.
I understand that it might be better for someone more stable to coordinate this.
For me, it was a bit of bad timing when I decided to start reviving the project - I was in the middle of an depressive episode, and this was also one of the things that gave me some joy and satisfaction - getting people to submit again. Kilu was a great help on that as well. During March & April, I got a lot better - I decided to take an antidepressant. That's when I realized I had a lot of work to catch up to...
Right now I think I am at a point where I can handle things normally.

Im very happy that youre ok, and that the Set is up :D, and you know that you can count with all of us,about Baron, why dont you work togheter 2 heads are better than 1 ;) but I have to check the sound test and Im terribly sorry for my voice file I never was able to finish but save the name for the next set ok :D thanks

Ok Guys - I made a stupid big mistake: I forgot to enter Evil Baz's submission (it was the only file transferred with AIM, and I left it in the upload directory...stupid me :shame:)
I just put it in Zeugma's upload folder...please exchange Track #9 with Baz's submission...I'll change the backside of the cover as well...
truly sorry, Baz, this was not intentional.
By the way, I can upload the set to others as well...
just tell me where.

I'm getting 63-68k download. I like Evil Baz's idea about working together (I thought about it myself 10 seconds before reading it :) ) I would of offered to host the file as well for a bit but I'm hosted on Lintbox webhosting so it would be kinda redundent.

Silver told me he'd work on the cover, so please don't print the preliminary one - there'll be another one coming. The title of the set might change as well, as the cover designer also names the set.
I'm looking forward to reading your reviews - I'm currently working on mine.
About working together on the next Sound Test: It would be great if you could be the official Submission Collector, Baron. I think you'd be the perfect man for that, and it would speed up things a lot, I guess.
I would love to keep doing the organisational stuff - getting a cover, an intro & outro and such as well as arranging the tracks. Organisational work is good practice for me, and arranging the tracks is the thing I like best ^^.
Would that be ok for you Baron? Or have you already thought of another way to work together?

Actually, this one's our seventh Sound Test :D You can view the list on my database (http://zeugmaonline.sytes.net/soundTest/soundTest.php) (that should be updated with the new release in one hour or so ;) )

Ah, an 8th is not "if", but when :p After listening to this latest release, I feel somewhat energetic towards having the 8th. I know I have not participated nearly as much as I would have liked, but I would like to give a try at arranging one of these eventually. I'm sure I could rally up some participation. 01. Sound Test 7 Intro - Baron
Nice Intro, Baron :)
02. Sound Test Revival - Zeugma 440
I love this voicefile - it is so seren, it fits a revival :). And the transition to your submission is also great.
03. The Super Robot Space Medley - Various (mixed by Zeugma 440) [sub by Zeugma 440]
What can I say - this medley is great. Everytime I listen to it, I find more interesting aspects to the music. It really makes me want to watch Gundam SEED ^^
04. eph2 - Ephraim
Nice voicefile Ephraim - though it had a very, very low volume. ^^ You sounded a bit as though you were whispering.
05. Some People - Groove Collective [sub by Ephraim]
Yo, this track grooves. It has an interesting mixture of styles. It took a bit to get into it, but now I like it.
06. Colours - Donavan [sub by bjp]
^^ this is a funny one, bjp - at first I thought: ok, nice one, not my fave, not my style...but after listening to it over and over while deciding where to put it, it grew on to me. That's the thing I like about the Soundtest - I get to listen to all kinds of music, and have a chance to let them get to me...
07. Use me - Hootie & The Blowfish [sub by Bamatone13 (alt)]
Gee, I like this one. I only knew the song from Fiona Apple - she's got another great live-version of it...but this singer has a good voice, and the atmosphere of the song just makes me want to dance
08. The Incredible Singing Robot - Star Salzman [sub by DarkBlack (alt)]
hmmm...Star Salzman always makes sooo complex remixes. I'm not sure about this one - there are parts in it I like a lot, like the text of the song, or the piano at the end....but the whole thing is a bit exhausting to listen to.
09. Do The Evolution - Pearl Jam [sub by Evil Baz]
^^ Great submission, Baz. A real classic - though I would have loved to hear your voicefile "Do the evilution"
10. Baron Speech - Baron
:D Well, short and efficient. I tried to reduce the noise a bit, if that's ok.
11. Socially Acceptable - dc Talk [sub by Baron]
I like the lyrics, as far as I got them right. The genre says "General religious", I was a bit surprised. Is it really a religious inspired song? here in Germany we don't have such cool religious music.
12. Underpants - Kilu

Another classic - if Jet hadn't submitted it first, I had it in my choice of songs. But I'm glad Jet chose it - I didn't know this live acoustic version yet, and it is wonderful.
15. Bowl Of Oranges - Bright Eyes [sub on behalf of Zedie9]
A feel-good-happy-mood-song for our former Sound test coordinator - I hope he's well, and doing fine, and will return soon.
16. Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright [sub by Elhaym van Houten]
well, my submission. I like this song a lot. I remember when I first heard it - I was in an Eddie bauer store here in Münster, and I was about to leave when it started playing. I remember this so well because this song had such a big emotional impact on me. I stayed the whole song long, and afterwards left feeling a bit...well, melancholic, and very touched.
17. Finally Released - Elhaym van Houten
...and my voicefile. I noticed the music has a very low volume - I think I'll redo the mixing.
18. Infancy Of Us - Eliot Morris [sub by Bamatone13]
ooohh...me likes this song a lot. Together with Zeugma's Medley, it is my most favourite submission on this Set. Bama, I agree with Locke - you seem to hit my nerve with your submissions
19. A New Challenger o_O - Kaserdan
^^ this sounds as though from Streetfighter or some beat'em Up like that. I'm glad you made it in time Kaserdan. I would have hated to miss this voicefile, and your submission.
20. Touched - Vast [sub by Kaserdan]
:) that choir in the back reminds me of Xenogears...no, the whole song reminds me of Xenogears :D...nice submission.

Great remix, though I don't know the game (Teenge Mutant Hero Turtles II it was, right?)
22. Sac Mau - Tran Tien [sub by Dark Black]
....such a tranquil choice, DarkBlack. It is a perfect contrast for all those loud and a bit more hectic songs. I love the voice of the singer.. which language is it? You know, it makes me feel a bit nostalgic - it reminds me of the good old Hongkong movies ^^
23. Get Over It - OK Go [sub by Elhaym van Houten (alt)]
my alternate submission - I love the sarcasm in this one
24. Sound Test 7 Outro - Baron
Great outro, Baron. I like the mixed bit a lot
I'm really happy all the newbies made such wonderful submissions - this project is interesting because of the great variety of different music, and this Set is another proof of that.
I'm also happy about the voicefiles - they make this Set very personal. I love every single one of them, so BIG thanks to all those who took the time to make one

this is for those new to the project:
after releasing one album we usually take a bit of time for everyone to get it and get into it...
the participants and every listener is encouraged to write a detailed review.
That way, we can exchange opinions about the submissions, and have a bit of a discussion.
To me it feels better to honour everyone's effort by leaving some time for appreciating the album.
We'll announce the start of Set 8 in a few weeks, after discussing a possible theme.

Sound Test Revival
Well, this one's mine :D Compared to the other voicefiles I made, this one sounds really neat, quality-wise. I'm still using the same old mike, but now I have a better knowledge of sound processing sotfwares :p
The Super Space Robots Medley

I don't know if I got it right, but this one makes me think about american country music. It's rather cool and makes a good pause between tracks 5 and 7 (good job on this, Elly :D)

Hehe, I can't stop snapping the rythm with my fingers as I write this. I just love this kind of music (soul music, right ?), especially live performances (Blues Brothers, anyone ? :) ). Great choice, Bama, as usual !
The Incredible Singing Robot
Good quality fan remixes are not common... what to say about good vocal fan remixes ? I've been admirating Starblast since Tatsumakisenputronic. Even if the drums are a tad too industrial for me, I still like this track very much (especially after reading the lyrics ;) ).

Hmm, I didn't know Pearl Jam before, and the voice of the singer kinda confuses me. He sounds like he has a fever or something... It's not really something I would listen to by myself :wonder:

I understand why it makes you feel melancholic : that's the kind of music that can affect you greatly when you're depressed or lovesick. That way of singing "Hallelujah" with a sad and resigned voice... That's a memorable song you've submitted here.

This album has been a real pleasure to listen, after so much time without any common RPGN release. Thank you again, everyone !! Let's hope that you'll be enthusiastic enough to keep up with other albums as good as this one ;)
I'll write a full review later myself. Couple things to mention right now. Fire and Snow is from Teenage Mutant Ninja(/Hero) Turtles 2: The Arcade Game from good old Nintendo Entertainment System. It has the music of the first stage, where the building is on fire and where the Turtles are trying to save April, and from the uh...4th stage if I recall correctly. There is snow in there XD
I recommend that everyone should play that game, because it's so awesome.
Also, I talked to Zedie on AIM couple weeks ago :D

I just came back from Montreal with my sister Archess (got past Quebec city and Mithrandir :P Can’t help but think that God exists in there) :emlaugh: And we listened to the complete previous sets. (1-6) :wacky:
I laughed so hard listening to The Boy and Pezito’s voicefiles ! :biglaugh: And Kilu’s one at halloween. Each time Mith tells us he’s a God makes me laugh also, and there are some others like Elly’s with her warm voicefiles that confirm in such a nice way that our community is a great one. I hope you’ll continue to take care of that great project Elly.
The Sound Test is the main reason why I joined the forums back then. Zedie9’s fault. With the forums change and the set7 that was to be a TVtheme, I lost interrest and vanished. Let’s hope this new release will keep me around a bit more. It’s not as if I was one of the most « active » posters back then, but I liked to add my 2 cents here and there :tophat:

Elhaym: I didn't know Fiona Apple did a version of it, too. The original song is credited to Bill Withers, although I have never heard the original. It's catchy though, isn't it? :) I love Darius Rucker's voice (lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish). I've seen a bunch of concerts in my life, but by far the most fun I've had were at the two Hootie concerts. The man just *loves* to perform and can really put on a show. I have some more if you'd like!
Eliot Morris is a local musician that my girlfriend turned me on to. (Thanks Nicole!) I told her about this Sound Test business and she's psyched that people in other countries are listening to Eliot, haha. (She's been friends with him since he got his start.) As for another good idea I had lately:
I think when we start ST Set 8, I will collect e-mail addresses of all who want to participate.
That way it'll be easier to notify everyone of current events, even if someone isn't visiting the boards for a longer while.
Oh, and does someone have the addresses of older members who participated, like Cyrano de Hero, Charon, BigJim...? I thought I'd inclued them in the mailing list - maybe they'll feel nostalgic and contribute something :D

01. Sound Test 7 Intro - Baron
Nice intro, although I think it's too short. But that was Baron's first try, so let's not be too harsh. ;)
02. Sound Test Revival - Zeugma 440
Very nice voicefile Zeugma, once more. ^^ Peaceful BGM and tone, not too short and not too long, I like it.
03. The Super Robot Space Medley - Various (mixed by Zeugma 440) [sub by Zeugma 440]
Interesting mix indeed ! I haven't watched Gundam SEED (and don't intend to - no time for it alas) but I do like the music. Especially the calmer moment at 5'30" with the female voices, it's nicely mixed with the preceding warlike parts (which I like too ^^). As for the last theme, "Moon", I knew it already from the Turn-A Gundam OSTs (and love it).
04. eph2 - Ephraim
Haha ! You do sound like you were whispering to the mike... Let me guess : you were not alone at home and didn't want to be heard ? :D It happens often when I want to record something on the microphone ; most of the time I just wait for a moment where I can be alone long enough. Nice voicefile otherwise (I like your accent :) ).
05. Some People - Groove Collective [sub by Ephraim]
An original track ; it's rather good. :) The overall mix is interesting, and often surprising.
06. Colours - Donavan [sub by bjp]
Hehe, typical country music I guess... Not my cup of tea originally, but this one belongs to the style of country-songs I like : gentle and sober ; these always make me think of summer, fields and country roads. Anyone seen the Cohen bros' film O' Brother ? Well that's precisely the kind of atmosphere it makes me think of - so it can't be bad, right ? :p
07. Use me - Hootie & The Blowfish [sub by Bamatone13 (alt)]
Not my favourite, although the music is fine. I think it's the "heavy" voice of the singer (maybe an effect of the live recording too)... The style's a bit too "groovy" to my taste I guess.
08. The Incredible Singing Robot - Star Salzman [sub by DarkBlack (alt)]
Good remix ! :rofl: Although I haven't played Chrono Trigger (sucks to be me, I know -_-), I know this catchy song from my SPC collection. ^^ The overall beats can indeed sound a bit aggressive... It's a pity, 'cause the remix is very good and the lyrics too ("won't you pick me~ instead of that frog~ I can do healing too" :D ) ! Maybe Star Salzman should simply have made the mix just a bit smoother.
09. Do The Evolution - Pearl Jam [sub by Evil Baz]
I've known Pearl Jam for years by name only, without ever listening to their songs (except for the few ones which were aired on the radio). I'm not a fan of this one though ; the music is good but the singer's voice lacks some power (in comparison to the way he screams ^^). For instance, I like him much better in the touching theme song "Man of the Hour" they did for the (touching as well) movie Big Fish.
10. Baron Speech - Baron
Hehe, a bit on the short side again... :) By the way - not specific to you Baron, but a reminder to all involved in voice files : keep in mind we're not all native english-speakers, so it's nice if you don't eat your words too much / don't speak too fast. Thanks ! :p
11. Socially Acceptable - dc Talk [sub by Baron]
Cool song ; sounds very 90's to me. ^^ Not much to say besides this... It's musically acceptable. :D
12. Underpants - Kilu
Mwahaha ! Great intro once again, Kilu. :spin: The way you speak is always weird but cool, and so is the BGM you use. ^^
13. Morphing Into Primal [sub by Kilu]
Aaaaauuugh !!! (*0*) Don't hurt me ! I'm innocent ! XD Hehe... Seriously : that's quite bourrin as we would say in french (no translation to be found - or you could think of the way a bull acts when it sees something red moving in front of it)... I think it lacks variety and change, just like hardcore techno lacks it too (the rythm is binary : 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1...). I guess now is when I get my ass kicked, right ? :emlaugh:
14. Ordinary World (live acustic) - Duran Duran [sub by JetBlue]
I had never heard that acoustic version. It's rather good, however I prefer the original, which has more strength (I've just downloaded it to compare :p ).
15. Bowl Of Oranges - Bright Eyes [sub on behalf of Zedie9]
That one grew on me a bit ; I don't think I'll be a fan, but I like it. It sounds nice and positive. :) The second part, though, is... odd. ^^;
16. Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright [sub by Elhaym van Houten]
That sure is a touching song ; I don't even think the "religious" feel to it, because of the title, is the cause... I think just the melody is enough. However there's another great version of that song, by Jeff Buckley ; you should check it too ! ^^ Here (http://pezito.free.fr/Jeff%20Buckley%20-%20Hallelujah.mp3) is the file if you need it. ;)
17. Finally Released - Elhaym van Houten
Another very cool voice file (BGM is the key :D ) !... Hey, just listening to it now, I've recognized the song you used ! It's Castlevania, right ? ^^ Oh, and don't worry - you did a great job as a "coordinator". :)

Good song, I like it. It would fit very well in the background of a romantic scene, in a TV series (maybe that's where you heard it first ? :p ).

Hahaha ! The whole "here comes a new challenger" idea was cool (plus the musics in Soul Calibur are unusually good for a fighting game). :shades: Well done !

Hm, very interesting... I might want to hear more music from that Vast band of yours ; I agree the choir sample can get a bit repetitive, but it's ok and I like the way they mixed it with a "normal" rock song (and yes Elly, it definitely sounds like the choirs in Xenogears music ^^).
21. Fire and Snow - AnalTone [sub on behalf of Video Game Music Mixes]
Ok song, and probably a great remix when you know the original... Which isn't my case. :emlaugh: But it's rare to get VGM remixes sounding that great. :) (Hehe, I've just caught the famous "tadadadadah tah~ tadadah~" signature-sound from TMNT in the song ! ^^)
22. Sac Mau - Tran Tien [sub by Dark Black]
Very nice song ! I had guessed from the name that it was vietnamese, hehe. :p It does remind me of songs from famous chinese movies such as Tiger & Dragon, Hero or House of Flying Daggers - but it's interesting to hear another language for the same genre.
23. Get Over It - OK Go [sub by Elhaym van Houten (alt)]
Catchy from the very start, simple and effective : I like this song ! :)
24. Sound Test 7 Outro - Baron
Cool outro - I like the BGM too. I just wish I had understood all you say between "Sound Test n°7" and "again, this is Baron" ! XD
I really enjoy this Sound Test (who said "once more" ? :) ). Some members are gone, some new ones have come, and there's still some interest in this project ! ^^ I think my favourite submissions in ST7 are the Super Robot Space Medley, Hallelujah, Touched, and Get Over It. Some others are pretty good too - and very few are not my taste at all. :p Get ready for Sound test 8, 'cause I'll be there ! :3

sorry for the break - my PC broke down, and I had to get spare parts and someone to repair it....
imagine, almost three weeks without a PC (and internet) :(
anyway, good to be back, and let's start organizing set 8.
I'm not sure wether we should make this a themed one or not...maybe we can set up a poll for it? I'm not sure how to do this, maybe someone can help? We could also do a voting by email.
Me, I would go for another free set - as much fun it is to think up submissions and voicefiles for a special theme, it usually discourages people who don't know what to submit...
I'm open for anything, so maybe we should start with some brainstorming for a theme. Everyone can bring up themes they would love for a Sound Test.
Here are a few possibilities:

Autumnal Theme
Favourite Song for cheering up
Anime Themes
Game Themes
Halloween (again?)

Well, I clearly remember that the Halloween and Christmas-themed sound tests (the 3rd and the 4th) were awesome ! Agreed, it's restrictive and you have to do a little effort to find something that meets the requirements of the theme, but the result can be really great :D

I agree it's good to have non-themed sets often, but a themed set now and then is really appreciable... It gives some unity to the thing, while maintaining the "melting-pot" side of our Sound Tests. Actually it all depends on the chosen theme, some are harder to stick to than others... And yes, soundtracks (be they of animes, games or movies) can get repetitive since most of us are very knowledgeable in this domain already. ;)
Anyway, "favourite song for cheering up" looks like a good idea to me !
We'll see how the poll turns out. ^^

I definently approve of the cheer up theme :D I know I'll have at least 2 songs that I love to cheer up with, though we might want to theme it more specifically too (at least track listing wise) so that it runs together well. Also, are we wanting songs that are heavy metal, trance, techno, hiphop (oh god I hope not hip hop), raggae, rock, etc. There's alot of possiblities, and if we're not careful it's going to come out sounding like a slapshod job.

One: Could my song be rife with profantity? 'Cause nothing gets me going that someone yelling a bunch of explatives in my ear.
Two: If someone used Real Emotion for this, I'd send them a tray of my mom's famous "chocolate chip cookie" brownies. I'm dead serious.

That sure looks like the original idea, it might just split people in two sides while they almost share the same idea. If we ever make a poll, I'd suggest that your idea comes along with the first one (i.e. cheering up), and not as a separate category...

Or maybe I'll call someone and they can record it over the phone. Although that woudl sound really, really horrible, I would guess. We'll see how it all gets finished, ya?

That was an error on my part, I had a server crash and forgot to recreate the directory, let me know of any other issues.

For my part, I still have to do my voicefile and to choose a submission. I will upload everything (intro/voicefile/track/outro) once it's done.
We don't normally reveal what files each have uploaded until the set is released. If it so happens that you upload a same song that someone else has uploaded, I'm sure Elly will let you know.
Oh, and for my part, I haven't done my voicefile yet. After that's done, I'll submit 'em both at the same time. Oh, and just so everyone knows, it's considered polite not to snoop around the FTP in hopes of catching someones submission before the release :p

The final deadline for submissions is the 30th of November.

covers are pretty difficult to select if you ask me, there could be loads of different things to put, i would suggest (this is probably RHUBARB) putting a split screen picture with a happy and sad image on either side......maybe & probably wrong is my selection, but what the hell there's no harm suggestinghttp://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/wink.gif

I had no idea what to do as a voicefile and kept messing around with the microphone. The result is a bit funny... but don't peek ! It would be wiser to listen to it with the rest !
As for my submission, it's a classic but it fits the theme pretty well. I Hope I'm the only one who thought about it.

The dimensions for a CD cover are :
- front > 12.2 x 12 cm
- back > 15.2 x 11.8 cm
NB : The actual *back* is 13.7 cm wide, but you add it 0.75 cm left and right (1.5 cm total) to make the small sides, which you will fold.
... At least, that's what I came up with when I used to design my own covers. :)

Ah... Well, I didn't mention pixels because that's not the point. Depending on the resolution you use (72, 150, 300 DPI), the number of pixels will vary so who cares ? :p All you need to do is - in Photoshop - to tell the program what length and height (in cm) you want, what resolution (in DPI), and it will tell you directly how many pixels that is.
Anyway, since you asked, I've just done so in Photoshop and here's the result :
- front > 1441 x 1417 pixels
- back > 1795 x 1394 pixels (= 1618 x 1394 for the actual back + 89 x 1394 on each side, left and right)
That's for a resolution of 300 DPI, which is the standard when you want to print your image.
Holy cow, that's huge. I think I'll just stick with lower DPI :p Who cares about standards anyway. :D

A note, we may wish to ensure all the files are MP3 for future note, as this set contains a WMA file, which only windows users are going to be able to decode, and some audio burning software does not like. We may wish to change that file to mp3 and repost it... ? Opinions?
I agree. I'm not usually a format nazi, but consistency would be good, especially since some formats are not crossplatform.

I had wanted to change it to mp3, but didn't have the time to work out how....
Nero gave me an error mesage that the file was corrupt and couldn't be read into the wave editor.
If someone can covert the file to mp3, please do so.
Every other file was no problem, only this one.
I can convert it. But the quality will suffer a bit when converting from lossy format to another. Depending on the quality of the original file of course.

Converted, tagged and gave to Locke Cole. It's all good.
Also, I love the cover. Damn you Pezito :D

Ok, even if it's a good choice for the occasion, I leaned to hate that group. But it's as they say. You love em or you hate em. One or the other. It's a good thing to hear different styles on this album and this track helps (at least he chose the best song of their inventory) but man... Here are my own thoughts on ST8 :
01 - ST8 Intro : Finally, I'm the host :D The BG music is from the same show as my submission, i.e. Elemental Gerad.
02 - Waltz Into Me : Hmm, I already appreciated your submission from ST7, and once again, I must say that Hootie and the Blowfish and their acoustic heartwarming tracks appeal to me a lot :D
03 - Hawaiienne : The kind of track intended at creating memories, as part of student private jokes or party theme songs. It's not really my style but I guess it belongs in here, so *shrugs*
04 - Pezito presents "Dola Re Dola" : cool :) you're really making us looking forward to hearing the next track !!
05 - Dola Re Dola : OMG ! :amazed: This is a GREAT one !! It's exotic, very rich and carries a very cheerful atmosphere, as we imagine the kind of pictures that could be behind this (Indian movies :D ). This is my personal favourite of this set. Way to go, Pez !!!
06 - True to your Heart (China Doll Remix) : That must be a cool track to drive with :spin: It reminds me of what was on the radio back when I was still listening to mainstream (i.e. 1998 or so). Nice one :)
07 - Geo's Intro : Woo, Geo's voice ! The recording sounds weird, though. What kind of mike do you have ?
08 - Tongue Tied : :rofl: Excellent one :D I guess it should be even better with the images from the show. Another favourite of mine ^^
09 - Java's Cheer Up Intro : heya ! nice to hear new people in the sound test :)
10 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Ending : Umm yeah, why not ? That doesn't do anything special to me, but those who have actually finished the game should feel something here :P
11 - Flying is Believing : bjp and I worked together on the making of that track, which turned out to be neat :D All the credits go to bjp, while I took care of the editing and synch. Hope you all like it :D
12 - Thanks Again ! : lol, the counter displays 11:46 on this track. I first thought "omg, she's breaking her previous records : an eleven minutes voice file !!!" but in fact it's just an encoding issue ^^" You bg music is well-chosen, and it feels great to hear your voice again :D
13 - Mr. Jones : Nostalgia, nostalgia... a memorable track indeed, even if it doesn't especially cheer me up.
14 - Beyond : Hmmm, nice bg music (Beyond Good and Evil, if I'm not mistaken). You sound really cool and relaxed, Kilu ! I just laughed when you said "it's made my makke", because it sounds like "it's made by monkey" :rofl: I must say your voice file has the perfect balance between minimalism and smartness :)
15 - Dublin Delight : Whoa, celtic vocal music ! *dances* That's some amazing VGM arrangment you've got here O.O
16 - Cheer up Yo ! : Should we call it a voicefile or a fingerfile ? :rofl: Just kidding ;)
17 - We Are the Champions : Who doesn't like Queen ? :D This track is immortal, a great choice in any circumstance :)
18 - Locke Babbles : hehe, you sound really cheerful, Locke :D That's the first time we're hearing your voice, and I'm glad you finally decided to submit a voicefile (with a fun elevator bg music on top of that ^^)
19 - Dancin' in the Moonlight : Sounds nice and relaxed, just like the tone of Locke's voice. Good one !
20 - Hanging Around : It doesn't sound that cheerful, actually. I guess it's more like a transitional track O.o

22 - Vivid : noooooooo ! This is one of the tracks that literally KILL me when I try them on DDR. I know I have the skill to play it but it's far too exhausting to be completed without crumbling on my knees before the end >_< I'll probably appreciate it better when I succeed in dancing it ;)

29 - Forget About It : How come I'm always fond of whatever Bamatone submits here ? It's almost suspicious now xD Anyways, very good choice again : a soothing and light song that sounds hope-inspiring whereas the lyrics are telling the contrary... Talk about human indecisiveness :S
30 - Yellow : This one's okay, although I never really liked the voice of that singer.
31 - ST8 Outro : Thanks to Mitsuda-san for the BG music :D
32 - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life : Yay, a bonus track ! You're right, this set couldn't have been released without a Monty Python song ("Camelot" would have been appropriate as well, lmao) :D

Unfortunately it never got an official soundtrack, and the gamerip that's floating around the net is pretty crappy, with peak distortion all over the place. :( The game is full of awesome tunage, and the game is a damn fine too.
15 - Dublin Delight - makke [submitted by Kilu]: Some of you have possibly heard this before, it's been out in vgmix for some time, but majority won't have this, so I decided to submit it, because it's so awesome and cheery and stuff. :) This might actually be my only submission that will probably go quite well with the majority from the getgo. Not my usual headbang or just plain weird material. :D
16 - Cheer Up Yo - Kaserdan: O_O Well that was an interesting file. :D Fresh!

I really like this song, although I'm not a fan of the series and watched only the first few episodes as well. I have the rest on some CDs, but can't be bothered to get back to it... Hehe, "a typical Zeugma song" I would say ! This kind of J-pop is cool enough ; somehow I think it's distinctly Japanese, because it's so synthetic and speedy (while other Jpop songs can sound only as bad imitations of "regular" pop). Short : I wouldn't probably listen to a whole album of it, but this song in this Sound Test is a good addition and fits the theme well enough ! :spin:

Amazing ! It took me a while to realize that Bon Jovi's It's My Life was in fact a reprise of this song... Doesn't make their music any better in my opinion (not a big fan :p ), but they sure have my respect for making this jazzy tune into a pop-rock song. Anyway, that's a cool song and a great addition to the Cheer Up theme !

Wow, I didn't know Alison Krauss but she has a very nice voice... Sweet song, bright feelings ; maybe too "soft" to exactly cheer me up, but... Oh well, I think I tend to mix up "cheer up" and "wake up" ! This song is cool, that's all. ;)

I like Colplay (don't have any album of theirs though). ^^ Once again, the song is good but I'm not sure it fits my idea of a "cheer up" song - am I just being picky ? :confused:

I would have to say overall I wasn't too impressed by ST8. I listened to it on Lance's laptop last night, and while a few of the songs did indeed fit what I was expecting, a decent amount of them I'm not so sure about. Meh, as you said Kilu, assosciation I suppose.

Nice coregraphy ! Something I never saw before. But I also like how the camera move in most sequences, although some transitions are not fluid enough.
1:45 - 2:00 -- 2 cuts with good camera movement
2:13 - 2:45 -- 2 other awesome ones.
The transition at 3:27 is the worse, but the cut after that (until around 3:45) is another favourite.
The guy appears too many times at the end... Although maybe it fits better if you actually watch the movie.
That's great you could let us watch this Pez ! :D

Well for now it's still to be decided... Feel free to submit a theme ! :) I've tried to think about a new one, but wasn't much productive on that matter. ^^
Let's see... ST1 had no theme ; neither did ST2 ; ST3 was about Halloween ; ST4 was about Christmas/winter ; ST5 had no theme (I think) ; neither did ST6 (I think ?) ; neither did ST7 (I think ?!) ; ST8 was about cheering up !

It's great if we start thinking about Set 9 and collect ideas for it.
The realisation might take a bit, though, as the deadline for my master's thesis is set for the 2nd of March - and I'm pretty short on time til then :D.

A piano theme is great, but if you want it less bothersome, I would suggest an Instrumental only Set.
I have that excellent violin piece that I wanted to submit for the next Set and it would fit if the theme is not restricted to piano :D
(If it's piano only I'll submit it anyway as a bonus track ! :emlaugh: )

Well, maybe we could expand the theme to piano and/or violin ? Just "intrumental" seems a bit wide (i.e. most game tunes are instrumental) ; on the contrary, expanding it to "orchestral" would probably make the tracks too similar... I think.

I think it would be too strict. My track isn't from one, but I can think of very good piano tracks from video games. That would be a shame if our album wouldn't have any of those.
But that's just the thing. If we allow them, I fear the selection will be too vgm based. Which wouldn't be good eitheer, as far as I'm concerned anyway. It's a dilemma! :D

Ok, what if we went piano/violin, but no full orchestra? Like string quartet would be fine, or a piano with string accompaniment. But nothing with more than say 10 people. What do you think about that?
And we can submit from anything - vgm, movies, etc.
(For instance, a piece from the Dragon Quest String Quartet album would be fine, but not from Orchestral Game Concert.)
That sounds quite ok. Basically an instrumental, but not too big of an orchestra or anything like that? I'm down with that, but the line is a bit thin, and it might be a bit hard to determine which songs are okay and which are not.
But I'm willing to give it a shot.

Bama's idea seems fine to me ; the quartet-thingie was what I had in mind, to sum it up. :)
I think all categories, including VGM, should be welcome (indeed VGM offers many great pieces of piano/violin/moderate-groups-of-instruments)... But of course, the most diverse, the best it is ! I'm sure we can get a good selection of songs without being too VGM-exclusive.
... Or we could just promise eternal pain to those who shamelessly pick from VGM only ? :evilgrin:

Rather than a number of instruments, just think of this limitation by comparing with existing albums... For instance The Legend of Zelda : Hyrule Symphony, any FF piano-album (SaGa Frontier 2 had a nice one, if I'm not mistaken)... Not because it's VGM of course, but rather about how it sounds. See what I mean ? To me, the interest in such a theme is that we end up making a "piano / quartet album" of our own. :) We could always enlarge the range of submissions to other instruments, but the wider we get, the less we'll fit in a single theme. :p

You're not mistaken. When you talk about piano, you should automatically think of Masashi Hamauzu. His Rhapsody album on Saga Frontier 2 is quite good.
As always, I don't like the restrictions imposed and my vote would still be to keep the instrumental set, but I'll follow the wave anyway :zzz:
My vote would be for a instrumental with no restrictions. I trust the submitters to pick good songs, and not to rely too much on most popular vgm titles imaginable. :p
