Pan's Labrynth, a Mexican foreign film that is just AMAZING! Amazing visuals, acting, some of the most realistic violent scenes I've seen, and a deep capturing storyline. A must watch, my favorite film of 2007!!!!

I'll take a time travel and recommend the 1919 horror classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. From the German Expressionist academy!

Its story has a very nice twist in the end. =p

I'll tell you whioch one not to watch, so called classics dr. strangelove and citizen Kane.

Most definately the most overrated films of all time. Might have been revolutionary once upona time, today they stand as bland stories with ridiculous scripts.

Dr. Strangelove is awesome. >_< I love that film. I think, although aged, it still has some comedy to offer. Especially the classic line.
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

Citizen Kane has had its day I suppose. It was probably pretty good at the time though, especially if you weren't aware of the whole Rosebud deal.

....loved dr. strangelove as well. A nice black comedy about the foolishness of logic and plays for superiority that war brings along. always makes me chuckle.

a great choice i made last night was the diving bell and the butterfly. if that movie doesn't make you want to go out and live your life to its fullest extent, i'm not what movie would! very, very well done.

Children of Men. Another incredible film, but in a completely different way. There is nothing really to say about it.

I'm about this close to punching you in the face. Children of Men was a horrible adaption of an amazing book, and should be burned on the stick for messing so many things up. After watching the movie, I wondered how they even got away with calling it Children of Men... If you really want to experience the story of Children of Men, read the book. The movie was total rubbish.

The only film I've seen recently was Speed Racer... It's not for everyone, but for people looking for a bright and colorful movie with some really awesome race scenes, this movie should do it. I took a friend to see it and she thought it was hilarious and amazing.

I know I will probably be shunned for this, but I do recommend Narnia: Prince Caspian. As those in chat know, I took my siblings to see the movie last week, and the crew gives it thumbs up. It wasn't as good as the first in my opinion, but movies rarely are.. yet still it was a good follow up, not as poor acting from the kids, and overall an enjoyable evening. :)

Not spectacular, and definitely not as good as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. But still very worth seeing.

I like how they went from L, W & W straight to Prince Caspian. The Horse and his Boy was such a lame book. Worst in the series. I've read all the Narnia books back in the day and my favourites were the first one "The Magician's Nephew" and the last one "The Last Battle". CS Lewis was a bit hit and miss in my opinion.

I am shamed to say I haven't read any of the books. I just got into the story with the film, as I do with so many. I would say I meant to read the books, but theres no use, as I have no free time to do anything these days... so :emlaugh:

You didn't read the books!? You are banned from further watching any more Narnia movies! But, like I said in mIRC (I don't think anyone read.) But I thought the movie needed more Jadis. Even though, I know that she is not really included in the book, except for when they try to conjure her. I'm excited for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. :) Even though there's no more Peter or Susan.

I did read the book, but a verrrry long time ago. I wonder if I should bother re-reading them before the third movie is released. :hmm:

Jedis with lightsabers and all.

I watched the first Narnia earlier today, and I can't say that I found it good at all. It was too long, none of the kids could really act, and it was rather boring. The voice cast was good (Liam Neeson is always good) and Tilda Swinton as the witch was okay, but the rest were pretty unremarkable.

It was also full of cheese. I especially love the 'King Peter The Magnificient' title, there is just so much cheese packed in that one word that it's ridicilous. It practically oozed of cheese.

Another movie I watched today was There Will be Blood. Also too long, but an okay film nontheless. Cast was great, but the story partially dragged a long a little. It wasn't exactly the most interesting story I could think of either, but because of the cast it was watchable.

*Recovers from his seizure after reading Kilu's post*

You kind of had to peel the Disney - cheesy - PG - plastic protective seal off the movie to really take a liking for it. I really enjoyed both movies none-the-less.

But...! I am here to recommend a movie to y'all. I saw Kung Fu Panda yesterday, and as much as I didn't want to like it.. I really did. The action was pretty cool (for a kiddy movie) and the humor was just enough (even though I kind of wished it was less.) You should check it out if you ever have the time.

Just saw Fools Gold. It's a fun adventure movie. Kind of reminds me of the National Treasure movies, only without the over the top patriotism. So a good film, though a little cheesy.

I also recently saw Kung Fu Panda, and we also have a lot of promotional stuff about it at the store I work at. However, I found it wasn't quite up to par with what I expected. Or maybe I was just tired when I watched it. But unlike the really good animated movies, it didn't really keep the kids attention for too long. I still enjoyed watching it, but maybe not the top of my list.

I agree, Giea. I didn't want to like Kung Fu Panda, either. It wasn't awesome, but I guess it was worth a matinee ticket. Honestly, I could go either way. Depends on who you go see it with, I guess.

I'd like to go see The Happening this weekend. I'm a big M. Night fan.

I read some reviews on The Happening, and its a total mix of like it or hate it. A lot of people seem to be fighting with the idea of the plot, and without spoiling anything, I must say it does sound a bit far fetched to me too. But, I haven't seen the movie so I don't know for sure how it plays out. I thought it was a horror movie at first glance of the reviews, but it seems to be geared more towards thriller/drama, so I might check it out.

(I don't like horror, haha. ^^;)

Ok, I've had time to watch some films recently...

Doomed. Which I picked up for just one english pound. It's a dire attempt at survival horror and yet, strangely enjoyable in its lameness. People get killed and that's amusing for the most part, especially as points are awarded for style of execution. ¬¬
It's odd and badly thought out but worth a look.
In brief it's about a bunch of criminals, from murderers to shoplifters to computer hackers, who are placed on an island as part of a reality TV gameshow (think Running Man kinda). The grand prize for reaching the other side of the island is 500'000 dollars and a full pardon for their crimes.

Severance. What do people find so appealing about Danny Dyer? I bought this film and kinda wish now that I hadn't. It was ok, decent level of gore and a few laughs along the way, mainly from Danny Dyer and Tim McInnery, but like the above 'Doomed' badly thought out and executed. Special features are all lame except for the one detailing the coach crash stunt which is actually more interesting than the film itself.
Ending is utterly lame. Worth seeing for half naked Hungarian hookers with machine guns and Danny Dyer's mushroom induced hallucino-trip. Pity Dyer is such a one trick pony when it comes to acting, he just plays himself. ¬¬

Hellraisers 1 through 6. Me and my bro are big Hellraiser fans so we're rewatching all 8 in the series. If you're in it for the gore you want Hellraiser 1, 3 and 6. Plotwise 1, 5 and 6 are the best, especially the sudden twist at the end of 6. 4 was so badly chopped up the director ended up being credited as Alan Smithee, effectively disowning the film, but is worth seeing in the grand scheme of things as it offers a deeper glimpse into LaMarchand's family and the creation of the Lament Configuration puzzle box. 7 and 8 are also good but I'll cover those another time.

Charon

Hellraisers 7 and 8, both of which started life as non Hellraiser films and were rewritten to fit the mythos. 7 is enjoyable, especially to see Marc Warren who I think is awesome. The plot's a little ropey though, definitely due to the rewrite. 8 is much better although interestingly not a true Hellraiser film. It would spoil the plot to explain why but the story is great and so is Lance Henrikson's performance. :) Just a pity that they didn't create a Hellworld.com website to tie in with the film's plot.

Hostel Part II. Awesome. Really, really awesome. And pretty gory. Did I mention it's awesome? The ending is enough to make any man cringe. :)

I watched House of the Flying Daggers, and let me say this: This movie is one of the most beautiful, breath-taking movies I have ever seen. The colors and art of the background is just supreme. I would have to say this though, the special effects weren't "great' and this is one of the kung-fu movies where the love story is a lot more present than the fighting. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is into that stuff. (And if anyone would recommend any kung-fu movies to me, I would be grateful. :P)

The Powerpuff Girls Movie. Seriously. It rocks. ^^ I laughed my arse off at one point and chuckled through most of the rest. But then I'm biased, 'cos I love Buttercup... in a non-sexual way.

Did I hear a request for Kung-Fu movies? Here we go.

Armour of God (Jackie Chan). See Jackie Chan kick ass and almost die, for real. When stunts go wrong. As with all Jackie Chan films there's some good use of props such as dishes and benches and whatnot and outtakes afterwards, including his brief clash with a wall that almost cost him his life.

Legend of Drunken Master (Jackie Chan). My favourite Chan movie. Drunken boxing is hilarious and Chan is awesome in this. Very controlled, very disciplined. Watch him torture himself in the outtakes by falling in hot coals twice because he wasn't happy with the first take.

Young Master (Jackie Chan). Awesome early Chan film with some superb bench fighting. A bit long and drawn out near the end but really good.

Rumble in the Bronx (Jackie Chan). I'm a Chan fan, can you tell? Love the comedy in this and it has some of the best outtakes of his career imo. Also includes a breath-taking leap from a multi-story car park to a balcony across the street.

The One (Jet Li). I'm not as big a fan of Jet Li but this is a good story and some decent action. It's kinda more special effect based than Chan's stuff but worth seeing.

Bulletproof Monk (Jet Li). This is a funny film with acceptable levels of kung-fu.

Enter the Dragon (Bruce Lee). Oh come on, surely you've seen this. If not you can hardly claim to love kung-fu. Best Bruce Lee film ever.

Return of the Dragon (Bruce Lee). Bruce Lee breaks Chuck Norris' arms. :)

Bloodsport (Jean-Claude Van Damme). If you only ever see one Van Damme film, make it this one. Based on the true story of Frank Dux's victory at the illegal, full contact, Kumate tournament. Also features Yang-Tze as the bad guy. I'm a big fan of him too. Really enjoyable with an 80s feel and some comedy. So what if Van Damme's a little wooden, this is still worth seeing.

Warrior King (Tony Jaa). Jaa is pretty cool, but the highlight of this move is when someone throws an elephant through a wall. You gotta see it. :)

The Story of Ricky (Unknown). Still haven't tracked this down but it's touted as one of the goriest kung-fu movies ever. Super high on my "to see" list.

Fist of the North Star (Animated). Anime fun. Both a film and a series. Cheesy Japanese fare with an epic, post-apocalyptic vibe.

Dragonball Z (Live-action). Coming soon (so they promise) and featuring James Marsters as Piccolo?! Also high on my "to see" list.

Shaolin Soccer. Football meets martial arts in this effect laden kung-fu comedy. It's just crazy and you have to check it out.

Seven Samurai. Ok, so it's not exactly kung-fu so much as swordplay, but this is a classic from Akira Kurosawa. If you're into him, also check out Battle Royale (as if you haven't seen it) and his Japanese, samurai laden, black and white take on MacBeth from the 50s, Throne of Blood. Awesome ending scene that in my opinion was copied by Scarface.

Under Siege 1 and 2 (Steven Seagal). Probably seen them but if not, check it out. Sure he might take a lot of stick but I enjoyed both of these films and their cheesy lines. Also worth taking a look at "The Onion" where Seagal mocks himself by featuring in a trailer for fictional film Cock Puncher.

Well, those are some of my favourites. Hope you enjoy. :)

I've seen quite a few that have been recommended. I also have many films waiting to see that have been recommended such as Juno and Jumper. They are all sitting beside me, on my brand new broken Western Digital hard drive. Which reminds me. It's been 3 business days. Time for me to email them again.

I don't think I mentioned it here, but I didn't think Juno was anything special. It was okayish, but for the most part it didn't tickle my funfun nerve.

Also, yesterday I saw Jumper. It was... well, not bad. Considering the lead actor, it was actually pretty good.

I also saw Vantage Point the other day, and it was pretty much okay. Interesting way of telling the story and interesting to watch to the end.

...saw hancock, the dark knight on imax, and hellboy ii today. thought all were good.

the dark knight was a little too overhyped, and just a little bit too long. that's not to say it wasn't a good movie, it was. i just think everything surrounding it built it up to something i don't think any movie should be. aaron eckhart, not ledger, gave the best performance in the film. and yes, it was very loud.

I unrecommend, Ghost Rider. ¬¬ That's an hour and a half I could have spent sleeping. :( Officially the worst film I've ever seen, and I've seen some crap. >_<

On the recommend list...
Futurama: Bender's Big Score. Been meaning to watch it for a while and now I have. ^^ Probably not that interesting if you're not already into Futurama.

Night at the Museum.
Funnier than I expected! Thought it would be a bit pants with its kiddy theme and star studded cast but it was actually a pretty good film.

Yeah, that's it. Not really watched anything of real interest lately. Plenty of crap, but no goodies.

You Don't Mess With the Zohan. Which is even funnier! I really enjoyed this one. :) It's not very quotable, which is a shame, but it is funny and silly.

The Love Guru. Has two funny jokes, everything else is just Mike Myers camping around. I expected better.

Every so often you see a film that's amazing. A film that blows your mind.
And every so often you see a film so appallingly shit that it makes you want to eat your own brain to forget about it.

Never thought I'd recommend a Guy Ritchie film but Sherlock Holmes was surprisingly good. And not even just for Downey's top notch performance. It was pretty exciting and the approach to Holmes, whilst very odd at first and questionable at times is still very much traditional with regards to his infallible logic. Bloody good stuff.

Also recently saw Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. :S It's worth seeing I suppose but so damn difficult to follow. Very disjointed.

Yeah, he was a surprisingly good Watson. I liked the fact that Holmes kinda wobbles between a complete drunken mess and an astute observational genius (just as Conan Doyle intended him, only originally he liked to get high on cocaine a lot too). I love the 'train of thought' sequences too. I think that's the major selling point, that final bridge crossed as we can see directly into Holme's mind. All in all, very impressive stuff.
