On high demand! A new thread! We were talking about this in "Which RPG Will You Buy Next" and this is just going to follow up to that. So who object? Who agree? How long have you been playing? Who do you know who plays? Answer, answer, answer!

Well i like this idea, don't I?
Yes, I have played D&D with my friends for a few months, and I think it an excellent game.

I haven't played it, but I know all the concepts and it's seems entirely boring to me, rolling a dice for multiple hours. And in the end, you don't get to keep your 6+ Armor. Wahh

I used to play a lot of paper&pen rpgs a while back, but it's probably been atleast 5 years since I last played any. I have never played DnD though. Not the real one, so to speak. I have played some games that are mostly based on DnD rules though. But I have mostly played Cyberpunk and the like.

i have been playing D&D (2nd, 3rd and 3.5) for eleven years now lets just say that i am a strong suporter of it and almost anything D&D related, on that note i have also played for many years in rifts, battletech mech warrior a mix of the bolth, V&V, vampire LARP for the most part i am a walking rule book and am willing to help in any way i can to answer all tings D&D, if i don't know it i have a group of 30 people to draw apone for info and over 400 books to look at ( mostly 2nd and 3rd but most of teh 3.5 as well)

Bet that means you could figure out where mine's from too.

Anyway I have the basic v3 books as well as the expanded psionics handbook. haven't got the 3.5 books yet.

Too bad Charon hasn't seen this thread yet... He's been playing for more than two years, as far as I know, and is a member of http://www.dndgamer.com :D
Personally, I play other dice & sheet RPGs like Vampire : The Masquerade or Shadowrun, but I currently have no time for this... :(

Hey Charon! Finish this verse of a dwarven song:

Climb that trail,
Break down that door,
Find that tunnel,
and run some more!

Cross the bridge of fiery glow,
Running deeper down below,
Make some smiles from those frowns,

i like LARPing vampire better and i am a memeber of there offical world wide group but due to the new system coming in i am sorta out of it for the moment and yes i know the 8 bit, as for D&D i love the undead and necromancers and evil and such. if i am not playing a Wizard and or cleric then i am not happy, wizards rule sorcerers suck!

Astrolounge
11-10-2004, 11:16 PM

But what I can't stand are the people who don't know the differince...

"Ye've found the town of Upsen Downs!"YES! I love that song!

I don't like Sorc's because I don't use a charisma score for much when I play, as I don't really play in a way that needs it, And it stands to reason Draud the lich would have low charisma as well.

Why would a lich have low charisma? Charisma's not just about looks. It's about persuasion and psychology, it's about messing with people's heads. :)

Yeah Silver, forgot about Nall. ¬¬

Seems we get the official Canadian seal of approval. ^_^
You should hang around check it out. The move has left us with a few teething problems but most seem solved now.

does anyone here have anymore time playing then me? please some one i don't wanna be the old man of the group

Kilu
11-13-2004, 04:01 PM
Time is something I don't have to spare. First I stopped playing because most of my buddies moved and gathering up for a game session didn't work too well. No one had wheels and distances were too great. Now, even if I had the group to play, I don't have the time.

Astrolounge
11-15-2004, 02:09 PM
Thats too bad Kilu, The new changes they keep coming out with are really fun!
And the award for best new D&D feature goes to...

Psionics! *Applause*
:w00t:

Lord Draud
11-15-2004, 03:33 PM
please they have had those since 1st there not new, and might i add that the 3.0 one sucked even more then the 2nd, i have yet to see the 3.5 version but i never every will use them again not since the last time ( ask Grim for details)

Astrolounge
11-15-2004, 03:55 PM
Well I like the Expanded Psionics... And I never played the first one.
And did it ever occur to you that It would be less work to tell me NOW than to post on the "Ask The Reaper" thread you lazy lich?

Grim
11-16-2004, 10:44 AM
the only thing I really like in the Expanded Psionics is the Soulknife, but thats probably because its not a true Psion.

Astrolounge
11-16-2004, 02:16 PM
Autohypnosis, I personally think it's usefull.
And I ment it makes it interesting when you have opposition with psionics.

Lord Draud
11-16-2004, 04:35 PM
ah well the mind flayer is good but its just that the last time i had some one use them they killed a old dragon in one round and they where lvl 5 and it was all in the rules so i said F#(K that

Astrolounge
11-16-2004, 11:08 PM
Oh right, you DM. Well sick your cruel psionic, and warrior drow upon there heads!
Or try using gem dragons next time, because they have psionics, AND massive claws.
And if all else fails, Hellfire Wyrm all their sorry asses.

Charon
11-17-2004, 07:10 AM
ah well the mind flayer is good but its just that the last time i had some one use them they killed a old dragon in one round and they where lvl 5 and it was all in the rules so i said F#(K that
You let someone play a mindflayer? Those guys are ECL 15. What on earth is a level 15 character doing in a level 5 group? (presuming this was 3e)

Astrolounge
11-17-2004, 01:34 PM
I think he ment a regular character had psionics in the party to bring down the dragon, and that the mind flayer is a good monster to sick on PC's, as two seperate points.
Ie: by "them," he ment Psionics. Am I right Draud?

(Always remember Draud's grammatical issues when deciphering he posts.)

Charon
11-17-2004, 08:35 PM
Level 5 psions killing an "old" dragon? Thats even more messed up than an illithid killing it. >_<

Anyways, anyone who really likes playing arcane casters should pick up the complete arcane, its really good.

Lord Draud
11-20-2004, 01:48 AM
grim with the group i play with you know for a fact that once a round there will be a crit, and if they can minimax they will even if they try not to something will happen and they will find a whole new way to kill something that should wast them

Astrolounge
11-20-2004, 09:37 PM
And here I thought that was the basis of a good PC...

Lord Draud
11-21-2004, 02:33 PM

Astrolounge
11-22-2004, 02:22 PM
I have a feeling you don't like monks then Draud...

My Buddies always hassel me for useing a female PC in NWN, I told them I prefer to look at a female sprite when I play. That seemed to confuse them for some reason. Any idea why?

Lord Draud
11-22-2004, 10:42 PM
in a video game no on pen and paper it pisses me off cause i keep geting mixed up i have the good fortune to have not only one but two female players in my group ( i have about ten players) as for monks no i like them you just send them up against stuff that has ether a more attacks or B lvls in monk or c bolth also some kinds of magic work great fort saves are generaly there lowest due to tehre need for a high str dex and wis

Here's a question; What part of D&D do you think has started the most arguments or straight out fights?
In the case of the group I play with, that title would fall to:
The Attack Of Oppertunity.

Lord Draud
11-23-2004, 07:54 PM
fuging right, i get it but no one else does a second runner up is makeing and adding to magic items its mostly cause they read a little bit and then they think they got it READ THE WHOLE THING BEFOR RUNNING YOUR MOuTH!!!! as you can tell its a bit of a sore spot for me

Grim
11-24-2004, 01:18 PM
Here's a question; What part of D&D do you think has started the most arguments or straight out fights?
Having a DM, and Having players. Players tend to argue about everything, and so does the DM... They need to make a Virtual DM that knows every single rule and detail of the system if these arguments are ever to stop. :p

Astrolounge
11-24-2004, 01:22 PM
I would buy one, except then you can't manipulate the rules, and the game would get boring...

Lord Draud
11-24-2004, 01:55 PM
thats true some times you need a human as a DM to fudge rolls and what not

Astrolounge
11-24-2004, 02:08 PM
And to try and get your monk the multi-weapon feat.
(Laugh all you want, Mike WON that one.)

Lord Draud
11-24-2004, 02:10 PM
i thought you needed to be a non humaniod to take that

Astrolounge
11-24-2004, 02:18 PM
You have to have more than 2 "Hands" to use weapons with. He debated that scince a monk uses their feet to fight as well as their hands, and that "unarmed" is still technically a weapon, they should be able to take it.

Lord Draud
11-24-2004, 02:34 PM
well since i have a MM right ehre lets look it up shall we? ( this is how we do it in the group the books are god, ah you need three of more natural attacking like a claw a bite and a tail slap

Astrolounge
11-24-2004, 02:47 PM
Yes, you need natural attacks. Punches, kicks, bodychecks, headbutts and such are like natural attacks. It only works unarmed as far as the rest of the game went. I don't know how long this "thing" went on between the two of them, I just tuned out after awhile, so I only picked up a bit of the debate. I think the DM just got bored of it, and since there were only 3 of us that night, we sort of needed him as a PC.

Lord Draud
11-24-2004, 03:13 PM
a DM should never ever bend in the face of a player leaveing what sorta of signal does send to the other players threaten to leave and you can get what you want? i would have never let the player take it because to be technical the monks whole body is a weapon so he does not have three or more attacks he has one

Astrolounge
11-24-2004, 04:08 PM
Monks make more than one attack though.
And I didn't say Mike threatened to leave, Geoff (DM) just elected to let him have his way rather than start a fight I guess.

Lord Draud
11-24-2004, 09:38 PM
monks get more then one attack based on there bab and flurry of blows mind you a ranger with two weapon fighting can do the same thing the fact is he does not meet the need to take the feat how ever i was looking up and he could take the improved natural attack feat witch is just scary

Lord Draud
11-26-2004, 02:12 PM
i got the compleat arcane..i am trhinking of playing a sorcerer for teh draconic feats

Astrolounge
11-27-2004, 06:48 PM
I got Magic Of Faerun this weekend. The store didn't have complete arcane, but emare, they both have new spells in them I suppose.

Charon
11-27-2004, 07:01 PM
Magic of faerun ain;t all that tbh. Monsters of faerun is good. :) And the CS has the advatage of the genasi. Though I'd stray away from Races of faerun. Not particularly useful.

Lord Draud
11-28-2004, 02:34 AM
i thought is was pretty usefull my self, mind you i use it for all sorta of things the feats and weapons i love i must agree the magc of faerun is a good buy as well but the players guid to faerun is even better if your into 3.5

Astrolounge
11-28-2004, 02:57 AM
Well I bought it with an old gift certificate that was going to expire soon.
I certainly liked it a lot, especially the Fire Spiders spell.
Although, I could see few practical uses for it, beyond a massive distraction, or for widespread chaos.
But mostly no matter what, it seems almost somehow comical to me.

Lord Draud
11-28-2004, 02:27 PM
is that not what a fireball is? widespread chaos and a massive distraction? i like nerco or conjuring spells my self

Locke
11-29-2004, 11:14 PM
I had the opportunity to partake in dnd session on the weekend. The DM decided that he didn't like the magic system as it was, so he added a new rune casting system he developed. Apparently it enabled me to graft a life rune on the corpse of one of the party when he died, which enabled me to resurrect him as an undead minion http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/confused.gif . Anybody else ever use a rune magic system while playing?

Astrolounge
11-29-2004, 11:19 PM
I mean the spiders can sort of get in the way. A fireball doesn't really last long enough to impede persuers for very long. (The ones that survive anyway)
For instance a fireball can set clothing aflame, but then it's put out. The spiders can repetedly set clothes aflame (and other stuff obviously) for awile, to the point were foes would have to actually deal with them, and you can throw more spells.

Incidiary cloud would also work well for this, but it doesn't move.

Lord Draud
11-29-2004, 11:53 PM
i think my next char will be a fighter/dervish with at least +1 keen scimitars hopfully adamantine with all the two weapon feats and weapon focas feats + weapon spec all in scimitar and sunder, sunder is a sinlge melle attack so that means in one round if all goes well a 10 fighter 2 dervish can sunder like 5-6 times a round and kill armour sheild weapon and still make a few attacks!

i have heard of rune casting, in faerun the dwarfs have is but i think its diffrent always remember that the DM is G.O.D. (games offical dictator) and can make any changes that he wamts, how ever he must put up with people not always understanding WHY he did it

Astrolounge
11-30-2004, 11:45 PM
Or simply whooping his ass for makeing stuff up, As in the case with most of our games.

Violent natured?
US?
Your crazy.

Stop being crazy!

No YOU look a little nervous!

Anyway...
Yes, we beat up our DM when he's being a COMPLETE ass,
but anything up to a "Royaly Astronomical" ass, we put up with.

Locke
12-01-2004, 01:34 AM
I didn't mean to say that it was a confusing system, it seemed to work pretty well. I was simply curious as to whether other people had played with one or not. Regardless, dnd still rules http://www.rpgamers.info/images/smilies/biggrin.gif.

Lord Draud
12-01-2004, 09:16 PM
D&D does rule good call good call

Astrolounge
12-02-2004, 12:10 AM
Hey Draud, do you ever let players take the Spellfire feat?

Lord Draud
12-02-2004, 08:37 PM
yeap but only when the mood strikes me, see unlike most DMs i know how to deal, i have never been "broken" as in like i had to stop playing and DMing cause of something truly unreal, fact is i never let it get that way its a piss poor DM that can not deal with that wich he made

Astrolounge
12-02-2004, 09:01 PM
Our old DM hated it when anyone tried to take something like that.
Because that would be fun. And we wouldn't want that now would we?
So now we don't invite him over for games, What with being an jackass and all.

Now we have a good one though, he still won't let us do really crazy crap, but he isn't a complete "By the book" sack of royal boredom either.

PS: By "by the book," I mean won't let you be REMOTELY inventive with anything.

Grim
12-03-2004, 04:49 PM
I recall a time long ago that you were broke Draud... we were playing at B's appartment and we just did what seemed impossible to you(I forget what it was), you walked into his kitchen and had a little scream came back and so forth, although that didn't make you stop playing/DMing it just pissed you off a wee bit for a while (I guess rubbing it in didn't help too much :p)

I used to think the spellfire feat was all powerful and such but not anymore, I can make characters that are much more powerful than someone with spellfire... for instance, using Drauds thing below, a Thri-Kreen (2 Racial Hit Dice/3 Fighter/10 Dervish/Level Adjust 2) with Multiweapon Fighting, Improved MultiWeapon Fighting, and Greater Weapon Fighting who was using his thousand slices ability could make alot of attacks at the following Base attack bonus(-2 Penalty not included):
15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/5/5/5/5/5/5/5/5
Without the thousand slices ability it would just be
15/15/15/15/10/10/10/10/5/5/5/5
Did I mention he would have Improved Sunder and be using Keen Adamantite Scimitars? If it took 8 attacks to break all the equipment that seems to be a threat you could still have 16 attacks.

Anyways enough "Twinkin' Out" did I mention D&D kicks ass?

Lord Draud
12-03-2004, 06:37 PM
lol not that would be interesting but then again a single dragon doing a flybuy with its maximzed breath weapn would take you down

12-07-2004, 02:07 PM
I have a question, what strength would a creature need to pull a huge (like 500 year old) oak tree out of the ground and scratch his ass with it?

Lord Draud
12-07-2004, 07:05 PM
well depending on the size of the creatur invulved and the type of soil i would say a 50

Astrolounge
12-07-2004, 10:18 PM
It's kind of a dry mud-plaster type dirt, and the creature is a medium sized humanoid.
I don't really have any reason for asking, I'm just strangely curious.

PS: I found a very humourous tabletop RPG supplement,
It's called Naughty and Dice, and it's basically used to deal with sexual situations that may arise in a game. Tempted to look into it, though it's not expressly for D&D and would require some rule modifications.

Lord Draud
12-08-2004, 04:01 PM
lol i got the book of nympholigy its about blue magic lol i also have the book of D&D sex for 2nd i use it cause like it or not most fighters will use there money on ale and whores and who knows when they might go calling for child suport

Astrolounge
12-13-2004, 04:17 PM
I like really anything destructive...

For sheer humor of it though, I think "Butterfly Choker" is the one.
(Not a regular spell, someone came up with it and posted it on there site.)

Lord Draud
12-13-2004, 10:57 PM
i made a few spells mostly epic like a uber 40d6 fire ball that after it goes off it summons a elder fire elemental to kick your ass if you lived, or the ove that does 20d6 negitive damage and if it killed you you come back as a zombie under my control lol, but i made a few odd ones too like ray of tie dye ,its a 0th lvl spell that makes any 10foot by 10 foot area tie dyed in funy colours

Astrolounge
12-14-2004, 01:25 PM
*Laughs*
Ok, the ray of tie-dye is the new funny one.

Butterfly Choker makes a handkerchif animate and try to attack someone. Imagine the chaos that coud insue in say, A bar somewhere.

Lord Draud
12-15-2004, 07:04 AM
depends there is a spell called choke that does a vader on someone the spell focas is a pair of gloves lol i made a pair of magical gloves that let me do it at will once

IMO, anyone who can dismiss Mormonism as a "cult" has no place voicing opinions on religious issues. :blasign:

I mean, if you can mistake a mainstream, organized Christian religion for a cult, you obviously aren't doing more research than suits your preconceived notions.

Astrolounge
12-29-2004, 11:24 AM
More strongly affirming my belief that religion of any sort should never be discussed.
And that it has no place in politics...
Or anything relateing to my life at all.
If you want to be religious, fine. I don't care.
But if you start trying to use it in an argument, I will tune you out and regard you as an idiot.

IMO, anyone who can dismiss Mormonism as a "cult" has no place voicing opinions on religious issues.

I mean, if you can mistake a mainstream, organized Christian religion for a cult, you obviously aren't doing more research than suits your preconceived notions.
ok just for the record the meaning of the work "cult" is a sect of people that has split off from the main religions body but keeps most of the same believes. in this light i can and will call EVERY religion a cult exept buddism witch as far as i know did not dirive from any other if any one know any others please let me know. as for judo-christainity it was dirived from the jewish religion ( i forget how to spell it but i know how to say it) i studyed relegion for a long time (10 years, yes since i was ten) and all i found was that for the most part every thing was based on something befor it to make it more welcome in the minds of the people in was trying to convert chritainity is the worst ofender since it has spread so far and wide, if you want to know where i get my info fro mi can't point to one source but rotten.com helps point out stuff that i then looked into and backed up, this is why i am a velsharoonite i know my god was made up but you know what? i think that because i believe he IS real then he is and i get him to my self!

Astrolounge

To be fair, nobody can prove any religion has any basis in something that exists.

(Now lets see how many scathing half truths and whole lies get spewed at me...)

Ephraim
12-30-2004, 02:15 PM
About the word "cult", although that is the definition, it does have a connotation of "spurious" and "blindly fanatical", which I assumed the article writer meant, and thus what I meant in my post.

Astro, you're perfectly right, but I believe the oposite to be true as well. Nobody can prove a religion doesn't have a basis in something that exists (well, most religions, anyway). Example: I can't prove the existence of Velsharoon, but I can't prove Velsharoon is not, in fact, a real God. (Though the "fictional god" aspect is a powerful argument, it still isn't enough)

If that is indeed how you spell his name. There's another point right there, dumb, and long ass hard to pronouce or spell names.
And even on the rare occasion that they are short, (Drizzt for example) They are still a collosal pain to get out.

D&D Book(not novel) do you most like?
Expanded Psionics

Standard Race do you most like?
I like them all really, probably because I DM more than playing.

Class do you most like?
Bards and sorcerors are the coolest.

Prestige Class do you most like?
Dragon Disciple

Spell do you most like?
Prestidigitation, the most versatile spell around, and available from level one!!

Weapon do you most like?
Dire flail is cool. I have a halfling ranger dual weilding one, also like the fukimi-bari from sword n fist, nice surprise for the PCs that one. :D

Armour do you most like?
As far as looks go gotta be scale mail. If we're including magic, anything with the "glamered" property. :)

Wondrous Item do you most like?
Deck of many things, cmon.

Ring do you most like?
The good old ring of protection. I have an NPC on the wizard's council who has an intelligent ring of protection +5. Cool huh?

Monstrous Race do you most like?
The githyanki and githzerai are cool for NPCs, especially in my incursion game. For playing I love the genasi, especially the water genasi.

Monster do you most like?
Flumphs. :D Also a big fan of wood golems (my own creation of them that is)

Realm do you most like?
My own, though Eberron is pretty cool.

Element do you most like?
Acid and electricity are my favourite. Acid rules.

Lord Draud
01-10-2005, 04:32 PM
i find bards pretty cool, but sorcerors i think are to limited and well wizards are much cooler, nice spell to pick i use to all the time in game as well and at higher lvls i have a rod of it to i can use it all the time, deck of many things is an arifact not a true item and EBERON? come on i looked at it and the frist thing i saw was living PC playible golem like things, comebind with the fact that i am faerun all the way i will never ever buy it and or play it ( note that never ever is untill i get a chance to)

Grim
01-18-2005, 01:03 PM
Faerun is cool.

Anyhoo, I've recently found a combo that is VERY broken....

Human Fighter 6/Tempest 4

1 Dodge
1 Mobility
1 Exotic Weapon Prof (Bastard Sword)
2 Monkey Grip
3 Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting
4 Spring Attack
6 Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
The other level 6 and 9 feats are up to you.

ok, now, due to Tempest abilities when you fight with two weapons and the off-hand is light there are no penalties...Oversized two weapon fighting allows you to use a 1-handed non light weapon as a light weapon. Monkey Grip allows you to use a Large Bastard Sword in 1 hand with a -2 penalty, so now you have to Large Bastard Swords that do 2d8 Damage, at a -2/-2 penalty, same as it would be with two weapons, with a light off-hand....

Now who agrees that this is broken?

Lord Draud
01-18-2005, 10:03 PM
i a gree and thats is why i am rebanning all monkey grip feats and or the like in my games

Charon

The living golems in Eberron that you are referring to are the warforged. Golems given the gift of sentience. They are very cool, maybe you should take a look? And the world of Eberron is very much like my style of DMing anyway, dark mysteries and magic used for common everyday purposes, though I hadn't thought of harnessing elementals for transport I do have various magical technology in my campaign. Such as the gates to Freneas that detect the thoughts of people passing through them to weed out likely troublemakers and evil types, and the cart system in the Grashweird mountain where carriages are propelled along tracks by various "traps", which, when triggered, give the cart a push to maintain velocity, not to mention the main tunnel running through the entire mountain range created entirely by transmutation magic.

And if anyone in my game tried such a blatant munchkin tactic as the prc combo you described they'd find that the enemies suddenly figure out the same trick. I don't think there is such a thing as unbalance, anything the players can think of I can think of worse.
So they do 2d8 damage with each hand, big deal. Get a monster two size categories larger than them pulling the same trick. Huge monster, so thats holding two gargantuan bastard swords, 4d8 damage each... Did I say a monster? Sorry, I meant five, each with a level of shadow dancer for Hide in Plain sight, with a mage to cast darkness on the PCs and Darkvision on his allies, with pit traps, all with fire immunity so the mage can cast a maximised fireball.
*shrug*
If PCs wanna make themselves insanely tough then I'll do the same for the monsters they face.

Lord Draud
01-21-2005, 01:43 AM

One of the facets of my business is the creation of Carbonfibre/Metal/Wood/Resin/Cloth costume accessories for Larping. I'm also working up a system to create Weapon simulators- Medieval, Modern and Beyond.

My ROE has always been "The DM/GM/ST always has the final say." If a GM can state their rules clearly and concisely, there shouldnt be any arguement. Even if the call contradicts the book, it's the GM's game.

well I'm right there with you! if the scenario calls for that many modifications, just make your own!

what I meant is down on the argument level. some folks read rules different ways-- and some game elements just don't make play go very smoothly if combined. In instances like those, it should rightly be the GM's place to lay it down so play may resume.

heh i llok at people taht get to rules wrong cause they missed a word, i have yet to be proven wrong on a rule that i read from the book, i have been known to get some mixed up...but at elast iam not like most people with magical items and attacks of op man its so easy and people STill don't under stand!

Attacks of Oppertunity? Oh, you mean arguments like this:

DM: The orc barbarian come 20ft toward you to att-
Player: I get an attack of oppertunity right?
DM: *Pause* ...No... Why would you?
Player: He entered a square I threaten.
DM: So?
Player: That gives me an attack of opp-
DM: No. It doesn't.
Player: Sure It does!
DM: No, you usualy get one when they LEAVE a square you threaten.
Player: Thats not what it says in the book!
DM Do you want to SEE the book?!
Player: Do you want to SEE my balls?

And so forth...

Since this is called Dungeons and Dragons I take it may be safe to ask a DnD related question.

I play DnD quite often and tend to be placed as a DM <though I despise it, it can be quite a bit of fun though.> I was wondering if there is a DnD resource book that adds perks and flaws to the system for people to take when they make their character or something?

If not it seems I will either make my own or crack open the LOTR rulebook.

Another thing to anyone who plays DnD here and is a DM/GM <may have had a simliar event happen to them> I had a player who I even triple asked if they are sure about the action they were going to take (walking into a certain room while the people were summoning demons...) and they did and I must have got yelled at for five hours during and after the session cause he got cursed and till it got removed <which didnt happen till he died cause he never looked to try to figure out how>. The curse summoned these little lizard type demons <I thought of D2 and those little slug walking things in act4 when this happened> to kill him. As stated earlier, they did. Due to character personality him being a rogue and a traitor he wasn't saved by the two other pcs or the npc I controlled in the party.

On a side-note. I find it irritating working with a pc who always tends to have a mute chararacter that is easily angered. He takes it purposely for he doesn't have to talk to npcs and stuff and further the story. <in all honesty his characters never seems to have a real personality, just talk to me and ill hurt you type and I never get a background from him telling me why etc.> Then the player always has the nerve to ask me to make a dnd story for him to play in and I always look at him and say how, you never try to even make an effort in progressing it other than butchering anything that moves.

Any one with tips on how to maybe make a story for such a person? I was thinking a pure hack-n-slash would be best. But I want to double check with others first.

Ok. I own almost all AD&D books from my older cousin who stopped playing. I will check them out and see what ed they are.

EDIT:

Turns out I have around five to six books of AD&D 2nd Ed. I am missing like five or so. No doubt his little brother lost them.

Lord Draud
05-14-2005, 01:55 PM
heh in the 3rd ed book the unearthed arcna has traits and flaws as well flaws give you a bonus feat when you take them ( first level only) and traits are cool two like get a +2 on your inishitive (sp) -1 on ac cause your agressive

and you do know taht by the time 2nd ed was closed down they had over 200 books in print right? 5 or 6 if barly the tip of the iceberg but now that they are out dated you can buy more cheap

06-09-2005, 11:57 PM
Ah, yes, Lord Draud is right. I'm probably not as much of a d20 gamer as Draud is, but I have tasted of the tabletop RP fruit, and it has been swell. I don't play nearly as often as I'd like, but it is quite really a lot awesome!

However, I have only been a lowly player, at best a level 4 cleric (I told you I don't play much; I don't even remember which deity I worshipped. Probably some war god... whatever). After a bit more gaming, I think I will look into DMing some campaigns. I've already spoken with a few good DMs, so I have the jist of it, but if any experienced DMs are out there, I sure could use some tips or tricks!

Lord Draud
06-10-2005, 02:30 AM
ah well the first thing i have to say about DMing is find your style mine is random battle are great filler but try to have a over all story arch, some DMs love epic games that they plan out for year of play, other just like to run hack and slash

Doreagarde
06-10-2005, 11:13 PM
Yeah, I've been thinking about what I like to do most, and I'd probably just end of being a town/dungeon guy. Find a town, beat a dungeon. I'd also like to do inter-planar work, but I've read as much as I can on the subject of other planes of existence (in the D&D world), and I can't really find any specific guidelines. Is this supposed to be left to the interpretation of the DM? Or is there a planar book I can get? Probably both...

Lord Draud
06-11-2005, 07:38 AM
there are two books i sujest that you get, the manuals of the planes and the planar hand book, also the 3.5 dmg has some basic stuff for you to go on if you wanna run a basic planar encounter ( like the stoped by in hell for a hour or two)

Astrolounge
06-12-2005, 02:34 PM

Doreagarde
06-14-2005, 11:13 AM
Ah, see, now we're getting into the part of the story where I actually have to buy stuff. I'll probably save up for the books once I get into some good D&D circles, but the geekiest of my friends will only descend so far as to play Magic: The Gathering with me. I have read the v3 Player's Handbook, though, and I'm quite impressed some of the improvments. (No more stupid THACO!)

Anyway, thanks for the help. I've seen those books at a local comic shoppe. Someday...

Lord Draud
06-14-2005, 11:23 AM
indeed while being a D&D player only needs you to have the PHB a DM need the PHB MM DMG and if he wants to run a game with many new and cool classes and spell ect as many of the suplament books as he can get

Doreagarde
06-14-2005, 03:33 PM
Oh, yeeess... when I become a DM, the only book I'll need is the Draconomicon. I can hear the cries of suffering already...

Lord Draud
06-14-2005, 11:40 PM
tsk tsk tsk and fool can use a dragon to kill, it takes a true DM to plan out assasination plots and truly evil ways to kill his players, like apitch black hall way no light, the party lights a torch only to find that the darkness is magical in nature and thus immune to natural light, they step into the darkness only to find there is nothing to fear half way threw the black pudding that has coated the walls and ceiling drops down and attacks

Doreagarde
06-15-2005, 03:35 PM
Hmmm... I like the cut of your jib, dread Lord Draud. Still, I like the idea of a Black Dragon swooping down and eating a low-level party of wimps. Of course, I will only resort to this method if I find my players to be getting on my nerves. (Vorpal Shovel +3 my foot! Lets see how your string of twenties stands up to a horde of Dracozombies! BAHAHAHAHA!)

Lord Draud
06-16-2005, 11:19 AM
the thing is that as a DM you have controll over what magic items they have, most mages will not spend there hard ernd exp to enchant a total strangers long sword, its a fact that they have better uses for there exp then that, and if you have your mage in your group making them then let him know that it CAN lead to lvl loss, level loss is a power gamers worst fear

Doreagarde
06-16-2005, 11:49 AM
That's true. I think that if I when I become a DM I will take care to give my players the odd magical item or three (they'll definiteky have to work for them, though). While I have alluded to how fun it will be to make me being DM a gloriously painful experience for my players, in reality I don't really want them to die. I do want it to be a challenge, however. I think the most fun gaming experience would be that the players be pushed to play in a very difficult environment, but not pushed beyond their capabilities and the capabilities of their PCs. I think that this kind of game is the mark of truly great players and DMs.

This is kind of becoming a conversation between Draud and I here. Don't all y'all be turned away from this thread: we want to hear your input on the fascinating world of AD&D!

Lance Alvein
06-16-2005, 05:09 PM
Well, Doreagarde, when you get a campaign set up, tell me, and I'll play it. :p
Till then, I'll just listen to you two talk back and forth :p

Lord Draud
06-17-2005, 10:15 PM
i use this motto when ia m DMing give them a challenge that they might die if they are unlucky that way they will be happy that they are not breezing threw it and they are not angry that they can't kill anyting with out losing half the party, now on a another note at high lvls they will get more magic items then they know what to do with, also in most major city minor magic item can be bought because of all the other adventures that sell there old stuff

Doreagarde
06-18-2005, 11:13 PM
I love those magic items; I think that when I start DMing I might get carried away with the handouts. But that's what the Draconomicon is for. :)

I think it'd be great to take a really awesome magical item, and base a whole campaign around it, like the Soul Edge from Soul Calibur. Come to think of it, though, this is probably a very popular idea with DMs. Still, I think it'd be cool to put the Soul Edge in a D&D game. Probably make it an intelligent cursed sword that influences its user and has a chance of changing his alignment to chaotic evil each day. Oh, that'd be so cool...

Why aren't there any D&D players where I live?

Lord Draud
06-19-2005, 07:57 AM
..there are D&D player every where you just have to find them, like most outcasts they don't make them slefs known unless they in a natural habitat like a hobby shop

Razgriz

I tend to DM a campaign with my cousin. Its not easy though. Can't have much story as much as he likes DnD his like for social interaction within it makes it quite a bit like a hack and slash.

In 3rd edition or 3.5 (ehehehe, playing the frenzied berzerker with a greatsword and power attacking for 60 damage several times per round) I ususally play as a bard - not because its great or anything, but because I can really annoy the hell out of the dm with a diplomacy skill greater than 20 by level 8 and jerk usage of bardic knowledge. Done right, you can really push any game around. I was cited as the overpowering factor for a party (cleric fighter fighter/rogue, barbarian, me, npc ranger) in the last run by the dm because I kept getting massive discounts on items the dm unwisely made available. Also, using the 6 + int + 1 for human skill points, you can be a world class liar and an ungraspable felon/conspiracist. In battle, I don't really do anything but buff fighters, but eh, it gets you through to the part where you "fascinate" and then make a "suggestion" to the mayor to settle a vendetta you started with executive power.

Just let PM me when it's planned, I'll let you know my schedule and we'll work something out so that you have enough players. tsk tsk tsk, as any one know money is more powerful then magic, the store keep might be your bestest freind but he won't sell you that magic sword for less then 20% off market price cause "hey a guys gotta eat right, how about i take you for a beer after?" also you might be a great lair but but then again anyone with max ranks in sence motive (Eg a town guard or sherrif) will still have a chance to catch you, and bardic knowlege only works if you might have picked it up some wher, the super secret pasword tothat door in the mages tower that he never told anyone? yeah your not getting it not even with a nat 20, and lastly why ion the hell would anyone super power there char to the point that the dm desides to stop the game because of it, its stupid, did you want to piss off your freinds? did you feel that you liked to wast all that time and all your other freinds time making a char just so that they will never be used again because you can't make a char that is more realistic? and guess what unless your evil it might be good to help the fighters in teh group cause they are protecting your ass, undead will not be impressed with your songs, not even if you have the feats cause mindless undead still are not effected...ok that my rant, i hate power gamers

Tarrasque's are slow. If you're stupid enough to sit there and let it kill you, then you don't deserve to live in game anyways. When something that size come's at me, I'm not going to stick around and prod it with swords that at most might make it think it was getting prodded with a pin.

Grim
08-08-2005, 12:05 PM
ok, they are slow, but what about their rush ability? I mean 150 feet, thats not too slow.

Locke
08-08-2005, 12:47 PM
You can simply run to the side. Something that big wouldn't be able to turn well at all when it's in the process of rushing straight ahead. I say you could escape decently easily.

Grim
08-08-2005, 03:11 PM
nah, If you really wanted to kill your players they wouldnt be able to...because the 2,000 20th level wizards surrounded them and the great beast in a gigantic wall of force(with ceilings of force of course), and inside of the wall of force is an anti-magic field.

Locke
08-08-2005, 03:13 PM
What if you dug under it :p. See, there's always a loophole.

Lord Draud
08-08-2005, 06:50 PM
ha, but there is always a loop hole in the loop hole as they all cast creat water ( or open gates to the plane of water ) and flood the area ether you swim or drown, then they summon all sorta of nasty water TWP monters

Locke
08-08-2005, 06:53 PM
But then there's the loophole in that where it's an anti-magic field. :p

Grim
08-09-2005, 12:22 PM
Problems with digging:
A) It takes a while to make a big enough whole to get away from the Tarrasque.
B) Attacks of Oppurtunity Ahoy!
C) the ground is made out of re-enforced adamantite and the Tarrasque has swallowed you whole.
D) There is 400 tiny sized 20th level wizards inside of him with Headbands of survive in Tarrasque.
E) They Meteor Swarm the party and the Tarrasque.
F) if that fails for some reason, every deity in existance attacks you at the same time.
G) Game Over.
H) and just for dramatic purposes, the Deities take you down to -9 Hit points, and a kobold does a coup de grace becoming the most powerful kobold in history!

Locke
08-09-2005, 12:59 PM
Except for if you somehow miraculously win at all your saves :p. Then you still escape :D Plus there's still the anti-magic field.

Lord Draud
08-09-2005, 06:05 PM
godly heh well they mages can dismiss tehre own anti magic feilds at anytime, also with my situation you can creat the water over the feild then when it drops its normal water thus you are still dealing with drowning, mind you thats about all but hey if your in full plate your gonna sink like a rock anyway

Locke
08-09-2005, 06:34 PM
But when they drop the antimagic field to cast their spell you can teleport out of there :p

Stone Giant Paladin gets my vote this time, maybe I'll sit at a different computer tomorrow for work and vote for the succubus paladin. I'm in quite the bind about this one.

Lord Draud
08-10-2005, 07:45 PM
not if they cast a planar anchor on you

Locke
08-11-2005, 01:27 PM
But regardless, with the antimagic field gone there's numberous things that the PC's could do, such as haul out a bag of holding and turn it inside out :p. Then the wall of force wouldn't matter :p

Lord Draud
08-12-2005, 01:03 AM
despite what you might have heard that does not do anything exept pour every thnig out of the bag and untill its turned right side in it does not function, all so a bag of holding only holds 10 minutes of air in it so its a short term solotion, and no you can walk threw a wall of force no matter what, it takes planar traveling magic to get by and since your anchored you can't do it, MWA HE HA HA HA HA

Grim
08-12-2005, 04:14 PM
