:) Talking about Zeugma's pizza deliveryman experience made me think a Thread about unusual jobs might be fun, though I suppose one could discuss any job they like, though perhaps we should steer clear of the blow kind. ;)
Oh - and before anyone else has the chance:

i'm closest to "just enough to get by," but it's not really a product of sheer laziness, oddly enough...
so i voted for all of them.

How is it that you can choose multiple options?
And kudos on the picture. Oddjob is cool, but Random Task (Austin Powers) is funnier.
Can't seem to find a pic of him though.

I still hesitate between 2 and 3 : sometimes I just can't stop working because it makes me feel useful and productive. On the other hand, there are other periods when I just feel like playing and idling...
...but most of the time, I have the 1st attitude, so I'd go for workaholic :D

Well, I uh, just didn't understand the point of the topic and didn't find a suitable answer in the poll, so... Let's just go on like I didn't post here, ok ? :spin:

:) Bah! The point of the topic is to discuss any unusual jobs you've ever had, though jobs in general may be discussed. If you liked, Pezzilla, you could discuss your recent work with your MMORPH company (I don't remember its name :emlaugh: ), and also your decision to leave it. :p
:) The poll is more for fun than actual quantifiable information. I allowed multiple answers in it for the same reason. ;)

Heh, yeah, I had a horrible job. Used to work at the local store near my house. I complained about it on the other boards, but thank the good Lord that I'm the hell out of that cesspool. I also served a brief stint at my local supermarket when I was 16. Damn that frying-pan faced manager, damn him!:furious:
I put down that I embezzle on the survey, but we all know that's not true...

I am a workaholic, in fact the only reason I am on vaction was it was forced. I guess they couldn't stand me having 2 week left this close to the end of the year. It is now October 24, and I still have one week left.
Well, I have to go to work tomorrow, for the first time in a long while :( And I really couldn't be arsed to.
I'll be working in the local library, keeping the books in order and junk like that. :bawl:

I've done plenty of odd jobs. Jobs are really scarce around here. Unless you want a food service job there's plenty.
The last one I did was 2 years ago. There's alot of huge retirement buildings in the north side of chicago. Very modern and lake veiws. I got a job at the 300 table restaurant as a waiter at the sheridan arms retirement complex. I only lasted a month. The old ones drove me ragged. They could'nt make up there minds and kept changing there orders, rare, medium, special orders that only I could make, etc. And the butter. Some of them were on special diets and begged me for butter.(I gave them all they could want) I hate butter now. Worst of all smoking is allowed and being around all that 2nd hand smoke got me to smoking again. And they were small tippers or did'nt tip at all.
I have'nt worked since. I 've looked everywhere. Getting desparate. There's a opening at the local cemetary. Should I inquire?

Why not ? Cemetaries are very peaceful places, you get to breathe some fresh air and the customers will never bother you... Seriously, why not. :)

Dude, cemetaries are pretty cool places. Most of the people there won't complain about what you do... And if you take a nap on the job, you'll blend right in...:evillaugh:

I only work 20 hours a week, but I throw myself into it. Student Services closes at 4:45 each day, so all my hours are in the morning or afternoon (no night shifts). Balance that with classes and it can get dicey. Luckily I've dropped two classes, giving me three. Oddly enough, I use work as an escape from classes, which I do not enjoy at all. I'd actually rather be working than go to class. Bleh. But hopefully that will change soon.
In case you're wondering, I work in Technical Support Services, a division of Enrollment Management, which is in the Student Services Center. (On campus at the University of Alabama.) We maintain the network and provide general tech support for Academic Records, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Test Services. Yay.
And I'm grossly underpaid. Welcome to working for the poor state of Alabama.

Hey Lukku Kat, welcome on board. (^_^)
My jobs have never been anything special I guess... First job ever was being a graphist for Titus Interactive (R.I.P. :p ), I loved it (except the very end) and learned a lot of things. Then I used to work for one or two months each summer for the Sanofi group, as a webdesigner ; nice summer-job, easy and paid ok for me, air-conditioning and good cafeteria, jokin with my brother who works there all year long. :) Then the whole Saga of Ryzom thing started in 2003, I started as a tester and ended up in customer support / community management. And now I'm... unemployed ! Best job ever ! XD :D
So, now I have been two days on the job at the library. It's boring, as one might guess. There is one funny thing about it though. I have seen alot of lookalikes in there. Being in the loan desk, I see all the people that are visiting the library. Just today I saw Joe Pantoliano (if you don't know the name, he is the guy in the first Matrix who sold the crew of the ship for a new artificial life) and Christina Aguilera :p

I was a bag boy at IGA.
I have been librarian's assistant, so I know how Kilu feels, but I actually LIKED that job.
Yes, I have worked in a graveyard, I was the guy that guards the place at night. (There are a lot of praksters here, so there's a caretaker AND a watchman.) Oddly I never once felt nervous... well except when I made the mistake of watching a zombie flick right before work. Yeah, bad move.
Currently I am a clerk at the Timber Lodge (a hotel) It's great! All I do is let people who lock themselves out back into their rooms, take phoned reservations, and delegate any issues to the proper people or places.
No one ever checks in during the afternoon / evening shift, resulting in long lulls with nothing to do. So some of this time I loaf about on my GBA-SP.
For the humor of it...
The worst jobs ever:
Selling door's, door to door.
Assistant janitor in an adult movie theater.
Leech farmer.
Bowling pin setter. (before it was automated.)
Clown.
Medical test subject.
Circus side-show act.
A clone of your parents.

The position is no longer available at the cemetary.
Damn I waited to long.
There's a town down the street that has the smallest cemetary I ever seen. Its between a 4 lane street and a turning lane. It has only 8 grave stones and was probably leftover from the "prairie" days.
Ill try and take a picture.

:wonder: Kilu, do you still work there? Do you work at all?
The whole library business lasted about 4 months as I recall. There were 4 of us non-permanent "library assistants" and we all quit at the end of the same month. :p Basically the main workforce drove us nuts with stupid things and we decided to quit all at once and leave them no help at all. HA! :D

:) Too bad - I bet you had easy access to lots of soundtracks. ;)
So what do you do now?

My job is not odd, just the customers that come in to the store! I work at a corner store on the weekends, night shift. The neighbourhood isn't bad overall, but there is a lot of hookers and drug dealing and all that fun stuff at night, and we see it all. Why don't I quit? Well, been doing it 3 years now, I know the staff, I know the customers, and i'm comfortable. I get to use the internet at work, watch movies, be lazy and get paid. :spin:
