Well, the DVD of this has recently splashed on the net, and since I missed seeing it in the theater, I checked it out. I am a fan of Cage, and thus the first one caught my attention as well. I found the second enjoyable, but of course, as the rule of sequels goes, not quite as much as the first.

Some of the story seemed reused from the first, bad guy racing to get the treasure blah blah, and Cage as usual seemed to make the impossible look easy, some of the things he accomplishes in this movie are just outrageous for any normal person to even consider, let alone do all of. Alas, this is hollywood, and anything is possible.

What I didn't understand is, if he was the big show in finding the treasure for the first movie, how could he possibly have given up that mansion to the girl?! Sheez. Anyways, overall an enjoyable watch.

Anyone else bother to see it?

I plan to watch it today. I was going to watch it yesterday, but it ended up being a little too late so I went to sleep instead. So I'll be back!

I expect your review on my desk in the morning! Haha.

What did you think of the first movie? I went and saw that one in the theater with my brother a week after it came out, it was around christmas time if I remember correctly. We both liked it enough to anticipate the second.

Well, the first one was okay. Sean Bean and Nick Cage are both always great, and the rest of the cast was good, apart from few of those henchmen. Some of the more patriotic lines were pretty silly, but thankfully there was very little of that. And I don't really mind those anyway, they just always make me laugh eventhough they are generally meant to be serious. Some of the dialogue could have been better too. It obviously isn't a very realistic film, but I don't know why anyone would expect it to be, considering the premise.

All in all, it's a good semi-action film with some breathers in between in form of riddles and slightly ridicilous dialogue.

And Diane Kruger is hot.

I just started watching it, so I'll be back later with a full post, but...

Well, they probably got the mansion together, and he is obviously a gentleman. You do know that it's always they guy who moves out, right? :D

Okay, so say he is a gentleman (ha!) and moves out, and gives her half his stuff, even though they were not married or anything, and I don't believe she got rich off the find, did she? But even so, why didn't he just buy a new house? He moved all that crap into his father's house. What a sissy!

Who says they weren't married. :p I don't think it was specified how long had passed since the first. Maybe they married and divorsed in between the movies. :D And buying a new house takes time, and who knows, maybe the first house costs so much that he didn't have any cash left. :p

Well, he doesn't refer to her as his wife, or ex-wife, so I just assumed they hadn't married. You are right, an unknown amount of time had passed so who knows! I did like the part at the end, where there was the envelope on the car. If only..

Hahaha.

I also thought that the ending of the first movie was pretty vague as to who rewards and how much exactly. It would seem logical that the chick got a share too, considering that she was there atleast half the way. So maybe they bought the house together.

Anyways, the movie. It was good. Very predictable and more patriotism than in the first one, but enjoyable nonetheless. American heroes! Woo!:wacky:

I got a good laugh from that line, maybe its just the smiley dood.

But why should she get part of the bounty? I mean, she tried to stop them from ever getting the clues or solving the mystery in the first place! Gates did all the problem solving. She was just the eye candy. :emlaugh:

I don't really think they can try to stretch this line any further, a National Treasure 3 would just be pushing it. How many "amazing, yet never discovered" treasures can there be that he just happens to find? xD

She only tried to preserve the declaration at first, and then she was all in. :D

As for a third movie, I'm sure they'll think of something. :p

A quick search on google provides the insight. It seems a third, and possibly even a fourth movie may be coming sometime. Lots of speculation in the first page of results, such as:

Disney Purchases Domains for National Treasure 3 & 4 (http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/01/disney-plans-for-national-treasure-3-4/)

Kilu

Well yeah, domain purchases are not really much to go on. But the second one did probably good at the box office, so I have no doubt that more will come.

Also, there was a mention of that page 47. I also thought that it was pretty much given que for a sequel.

Yeah, I actually paused the movie and tried to get a glimpse of the page when he peaked, but I didn't make much of it. You're right, that leaves open a plot hole on its own. Further browsing on google suggests that a future movie in the series may have them hunting for Atlantis, but who knows!

well this series is supposed to be something like the next generations Indiana Jones.

Oh, see I had no idea about that.. when I saw the first one, I thought it was just going to be one movie. Silly me for underestimating Disney. :emlaugh:

Edit: Oh, and a side note. I'm at work and bored, so I was re-watching this and he does mention she is his girlfriend, not wife. When hes sitting on the steps and Riley loses his car... I knew I must have come up with that from some place haha.

They probably planned to live happily ever after and both registered as owners of the house and the furniture (which likely came with the house).

Well, we will have to see if the test of time between movie 2 and 3 will separate them again, or if Gates has learned to be a good little boy.
