If I spelt that wrong I'm gonna look really really dumb. But! Before I go further, I noticed an alternate spelling of Naivety. So....
Anyways, those who remember, the naivete thread was a safe place to ask those burning questions, about allsorts. And I have one. Not a great one, but one nonetheless. How much does it cost to go to the cinema in America? Cos I paid 5 pounds to go see I robot and I'm wondering whether it was even worth it.
Thats around 8.5-9 dollars american.

YOU GOT SCREWED!
In Michigan, we pay either $5 or $8 depending on what time of the day it is. But the concession food will run you a pretty penny.
I believe the current rate in my area is about $9 a show for an adult ticket.

:D Same here, methinks - though it's been a while since I last went to the theatre. :spin:

I kinda wish I had an embarrassing question to ask now but I don't so it can wait. :D
But there will be one eventually!

Yeah I did go to the late showing which is slightly more expensive. And I pay full adult rate. But still, no wonder piracy is so popular. :p

Well where I live it is 5$ for adults and 3 for children and seniors, though I live in a small town with a small theater... I usually have a question i'm embarassed to ask but now of course I cannot think of one..:wonder: Oh well next time i think up one i'll be sure to post it.

Naïveté. :D
Here it's about 9 €, we're no better than you it seems. When I was a kid it was more like 4 or 5 €... But then, with 9 € you get to see a movie in a huge room, with a huge screen and huge sound, and very comfortable chairs, and air-conditioning... not to mention most movies are 2 hours long nowadays (even though few of them really use the +30 minutes in comparison to former movies)... I still think it's too expensive, but I think the viewing conditions have improved a lot too. Anyway, I don't go to the theater a lot so it's not a big problem to pay 9 € when I go. :p

I still haven't thought of an embarrassing question. :'(
Although I did once get my friend (who was about 8) to ask her mum what an orgy was after someone said it on chat...
Her mum told her. O.o
EDIT!!!!
Ooh hey after that I thought of something! :D
It doesn't quite follow topic but when does Zedie plan on telling the boy the stuff that will...uh..make him a man if you will, and how does he plan to go about it? :p
I could have asked that in Grim's thread but hey. :D
Isn't boy like...5 or something like that? Isn't it a bit too early to even worry suchs things?

Because NAÏVETÉ is a French word, so pay us some respect ! :nana:
At least, WE pay attention not to put any accent when we use your words, like "cool", "best of", "sandwich"... Although our genes stress us to write it "coöl", "bêst of", "sàndwïch"... ;)

He's right.
But moving on.
Question one. Why is final fantasy VIII not called IIX. Isnt roman numerals supposed to use the least number of strokes? VIII is 5 and IIX is 4...
and one for the guys, a taboo subject. I say guys cos girls as a rule can't see their pee. But you know when you pee like totally clear, no yellow at all? Is that good or bad? And do other animals pee clear? Can women pee clear? Does anyone know? After all it;s kinda hard for them to tell.

I pee clear sometimes. I guess it depends on what you drink and eat. When I drink cola alot my pee turns clear.
How long have you been peeing clear?
If after a long sleep and in the morning it is still clear then I would be worried.
After sleep urine becomes a deep yellow from all the waste the body secreets.
Try drinking some fruit juice to clear out your kidneys and bladder.

 What a question ! :D
I happen to pee clear too ; I was told it depends on what you've eaten and drunk, like, if you've drunk a lot your pee is clearer... Jetblue covered the subject quite well, I think. :)
:D :D :D
Yeah, Jetblue pretty much nailed it.
As for roman numbers....where did you hear that roman numerals supposedly use least number of strokes? I have never heard of this.
And if it is so, maybe they count V as one stroke instead of two. As far as I know, stroke means a single uninterrupted movement. So making a V starting from up, going down, and finishing up, would mean only single stroke.
But I really have no idea.

I dunno where I heard it, it's just something lodged in my head. Maybe they do count the V as one stroke. Hmmm..

:D That's not exactly a major acomplishment, given the fact that very few (if any) English words use any accent marks. :p
It doesn't quite follow topic but when does Zedie plan on telling the boy the stuff that will...uh..make him a man if you will, and how does he plan to go about it? :p
:D The Boy is 9 (and 1/2 ;)), and questions have come up more often than his parents may have liked. ;) I often tell him to go ask his mother... presumably she is doing the same... :emlaugh:
When I'm drunk I pee a lot...:knockedout::D Yes, but your urine shouldn't be clear from booze. The clearer the urine, the healthier, on average, as I understand it. When your body is well hydrated, the color (and odor) are minimized. :bouncy:

Yes but we, the French, are biologically made to use lots of accents, anywhere, because it's fun ! So it's still an effort to write English, a language which never uses accents. :D

About the clear pee thing, we did some tests on pee in biology once. :p
It was gross but clear pee is healthy because you're well hydrated but it's wise to have some colour.
If it stinks and has loads of colour you need a drink.
And if it's frothy you're either diabetic or it's some herbal tea the teacher put by the samples to confuse you.
In my job you drink as much as you can. They can restrict your lunch breaks but they can't stop you taking as many toilet breaks as you want!
Dunno about roman numerals...but that's pretty weird.

Colour, flavour, favourite - haha !
I love to use the English spelling, just to assert my "old-continent" spirit. :p
And Zedie... You are right. We are biologically programmed to add accents and vowels AND consonants whenever we can, no matter their uselessness ! XD For instance : "ils prenaient le temps de traîter l'oiseau comme s'il eut dû leur fausser compagnie au plus tôt" is pronounced "il prenè le tan de trèté l'oazo com s'il u du leur fossé compani o plu to" ; that's 77 letters vs. 55. ^^ Using english pronounciation, you could say "ill prhunneh luh tam(p) duh trhayteh loazo com sil uu duu lurr fosseh compahni o pluu to"... And the meaning would be "They took the time to treat the bird as if it should have sneaked away as soon as possible". Which means nothing, I agree - I made up this dumb sentence just for the example ! XD
Anyway... Kilu's explanation of the V in Roman numbers seems logical to me. Such a stroke, in Asia, would count as one stroke only. :)

You're weird. But it's fun. :)
I wasn't much good at writing in French lessons so I put an accent in most places and more often than not there was one. :D
In our schools we learn it the british way. Which is why I used curse the default BB code for having [color] instead of [colour]. Gotten used to it though :)

I think color said how it's written would be pronounced "coll" as in college and "or" as in....or. :p
It's the same in English except the end "our" should be pronounced like hour.
So we're probably all saying it wrong despite how it's spelt. :D

Now another naive question ( :D that was a good idea to revive this thread, BTW, Charon) : how did all the "all of your base are belong to us" phenomenon started ?
I mean... I have the feeling of having missed something important because I still don't get why it is supposed to be fun...
how did all the "all of your base are belong to us" phenomenon started ?
I mean... I have the feeling of having missed something important because I still don't get why it is supposed to be fun...The internet tends to latch onto things every now and then, and I guess Zero Wing just happened to be the poison of choice. Be it Hampster Dance or Star Wars Kid, there's always something buzzing around like that.
As far as why AYBABTU caught on, I can't really say for sure, aside from the flashbacks we all probably had to the days of poorly-translated videogames. "A Winner Is You!" and such have become (in)famous classics these days.
Honestly, the real horror is that some of those bad translations aren't flashbacks, but recent experiences. :p

In case you missed the Flash that started it all :
http://www.us.fsu.edu/swf/AYB2.swf
I for one never played that game, but it does look typical of arcade games of that time ; add the very naïve and "engrish" introduction (engrish is fashionable on the web, as a matter of fact), and a silly video with great use of photoshopping to hammer that sentence "all your base are belong to us" in your mind... And you've got a hit. :p
video games + nostalgia + engrish + fake pics + Flash animation = everything to ensure a big success on the web ;)
I think the AYBABTU phenomenom started before that flash, someone just decided to continue with it.
I might also add that quite many people who use it, misquote it. They add the 'of' in there, which is not there. http://205.209.144.11/hosting/userfiles/Kilu/Aybabtu.png
As most probably know, this game has lots of other fun engrish. Not just this phrase.

Yep, the gif certainly came first, the flash was just one of many remixes of it (with one of my chops in it :D).
This is from the arcade versions ending :)

All bases of Cats were destroyed.
It seems to be peaceful.
But it is incorrect.
Cats is still alive.
ZIG-01 must fight against Cats again.
And down with them completely!
Good luck.
I personally love the 'But it is incorrect.' and 'And down with them completely!' part :)
